Gold Breaks Eight Day Losing Streak, Silver and Platinum Gain

New York gold recovered some of its luster Wednesday as did silver and platinum. After eight consecutive sessions of losses, gold finally pushed its way up with today’s rising oil prices and a slippage in the U.S. dollar.

Bullion update ...September crude-oil gained $2.99 to close at $116 a barrel, after the U.S. Energy Department reported declines in oil inventory numbers for last week.

Silver for September gained 36 cents to close at $14.85 an ounce.

October platinum recovered $37.70 to increase to $1,516.00 an ounce.

December gold gained $16.90 to reach $831.50 an ounce.

Royal Canadian Mint Participates in Beijing’s Olympic Expo 2008

The Royal Canadian Mint’s world-famous "Million Dollar Coin" made its Asian debut at Beijing’s Olympic Expo 2008 (Olympex). The unveiling was conducted by The Honourable David Emerson, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and Honorary IOC President for Life Juan Antonio Samaranch.

This unprecedented coin, recently certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest gold bullion coin, represents the international bullion industry’s summit of achievement in gold purity.

The Mint is also participating in Olympex to showcase its Vancouver 2010 coin program, the largest ever produced in honour of an Olympic Games. It will also display specimens of coins minted in celebration of past Olympic Games hosted in Canada, as well as offer unique and innovative collector coins and gifts for sale to visitors to the Mint’s booth.

Royal Mint Issues 2008 UK £5 Gold Brilliant Uncirculated Coin

The British Royal Mint launched brilliant uncirculated 2008 United Kingdom £5 Gold Coins this week and announced that they would have an extremely low mintage of 750. The annual issued coins are struck in 22 carat gold with each measuring an impressive 36.02 millimetres in diameter.

It’s the largest coin of the gold sovereign family and weighs 39.94 grammes and contains 1.1771 ounces of gold, which is five times the amount within a single sovereign.

The obverse of heads side of the coins bears Her Majesty The Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley FRBS. The reverse or tails side depicts Benedetto Pistrucci’s dramatic portrayal of St George and the dragon.
