The Making American History Coin and Currency Set has sold out

Sales of the Coin and Currency Set ended today, July 16, 2013 when the U.S. Mint stamped "sold out" on its product page and placed it under the "No Longer Available" section of its website.

60,000 was the set’s last sales total. That is the tally reported by the U.S. Mint as of Sunday, July 14, 2013. This coin news article will get updated if the total changes.

Coin News Extra Update: The United States Mint sales report as of August 11, 2013 adjusted the sales total to 60,205.

The Making American History Coin and Currency Set went on sale August 7, 2012, with an initial production of 50,000 sets. 100,000 were possible based on the availability of the $5 bills, according to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. When the 50,000 production amount was reached in late November, sales obviously didn’t stop — though it took awhile to hit the current 60,000 level.

Every Series 2009 $5 bill in the set has a beginning serial number of "150" to commemorate the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s 150th anniversary. The included proof American Silver Eagle coin, which has the "S" mint mark to denoted its production at the San Francisco Mint, is meant as a reminder for the U.S. Mint’s 220th anniversary.

The proof Silver Eagle was also included in the 2012 San Francisco American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set that ended with sales of 224,981. If sales of the Coin and Currency Set stay at 60,000, the final total for the special Silver Eagle will be 284,981. Again, this coin news article will get updated with a new total, if there is one.
