Medal of Honor Silver Dollar Commemorative Coins

While the United States Mint released several products last week, the most discussed topic in various US Mint weekly sales news articles focused on the debut performances of the various 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Coins.

Their opening sales cycle in US Mint reporting terms was short, from their release on Friday, February 25, to the immediate Sunday. The Mint issued silver dollars and $5 gold coins in proof and uncirculated. As is typical with modern commemorative coins, the proof silver dollars scored the biggest individual sales. They came in at 25,156. The uncirculated Medal of Honor Silver Dollars were second with 10,356. Trailing behind was the $5 gold proof at 4,699 and the uncirculated version at 1,890.

The Medal of Honor coins may be purchased directly from the US Mint on its website at http://catalog.usmint.gov/ or by phone at 1-800-USA-MINT (872-6468). The price of the four coins range between $49.95 and $449.95. Prices go up by $5 for each of the coins after 5:00 p.m. ET on March 28, 2011.

Other new products from the US Mint last week included the 2011 Presidential $1 Proof Set and rolls of Andrew Johnson Presidential rolls.
