2008-W Platinum Eagle Uncirculated One-Ounce, Last Standing Coin

The 2008-W American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated One-Ounce Coin is the only remaining uncirculated platinum collector coin available from the United States Mint. The 1/2 ounce version joined the "unavailable" ranks Monday morning with the already sold out 1/4 ounce, 1/10 ounce and four-coin set.

Collectors have watched the series closely since the Mint reduced its coin prices on November 13 to bring them better inline with bullion prices. Many collectors found the series more attractive when the Mint recently announced the elimination of several hundred coins from its 2009 numismatic portfolio, including all options of the American Eagle Platinum Uncirculated Coins.

Finally, sales figures have made the series more appealing as some sizes come in lower than other Mint bullion collector coins, as shown below:
