2012 American Silver Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Set

With a mintage limited only by demand but a sales availability time of just four weeks, the United States Mint has scheduled the release of the American Silver Eagle San Francisco Two-Coin Set. This unique set will launch on June 7, 2012 and be available until July 5, 2012.

Its price and possible per household ordering limits have not been established, but what Silver Eagles it includes has. The two-coin set will contain one 2012-S Proof American Silver Eagle and one 2012-S Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle. Both collectible coins will be struck in San Francisco and bear a "S" mintmark.

Expectations are that each of the coins will not be sold individually, making them unique to the set. In this aspect, it would be similar to three of the coins within last year’s American Silver Eagle 25th Anniversary Set. Many will remember that this product sold out within 4 1/2 hours to the complaints of collectors. By having this year’s set available for four weeks and minted to demand, ordering and sellout concerns are muted. The release method could result in extremely high mintages, however. And that prospect is upsetting to some collectors.

As shown above in the only currently available U.S. Mint image of the San Francisco two-coin set, the two Eagles will come encapsulated for protection and held within a lacquered hardwood blue presentation case. The case will open to display the coins in an attractive way, while also holding the U.S. Mint’s standard Certificate of Authenticity underneath.

Potential prices have been battered about across the web. The U.S. Mint is currently selling the standard or annual 2012-W Proof American Silver Eagle for $59.95. Times that by two and throw in several dollars for the presentation case, and likely pricing areas become more apparent.
