Wouldn't even matter. I don't think there's any composition the five cent coin could be made of that would have its material/manufacture/distribution cost fall below five cents

If not producing coins at a loss is to be new Mint policy, the nickel would have to be as dead in the water as the cent

CaliSkier, I feel as though I'm 'throwing money out the window' each time I buy one of these BoM sets! Not the Au/Ag component, but the 'premium fee' part. Au/Ag spot is going to have to ascend to lofty levels to make up the $3600+ premium fees for all the sets. It's a good thing I'm not buying these as an investment. At least I'll be done after the BoM 5 and the 1/10th oz Buffalo coin.

@CaliSkier, I've been buying these RP AI set just to get a different version of AI dollars. I used to get selected RP AI dollars like the Hubble Space Telescope, but then they started bundling them in the annual AI RP set. I don't expect them to appreciate in value. They used to be a rather inexpensive item. If they go above $100 I will have to reconsider.

Vinnie, I wasn’t sure if you noticed, however the Mint jacked up the mintage limit(ML) on the AI $1 RP sets to 99,792! Almost double the 2025 set which is still available, had a ML of 50,028 and LKS(9/8/26) of 41,382. I know you’re a big fan of the RP finish, however I’m still baffled on why they canceled the AI $1 regular proof version. I’d have bought a PR set this year and possibly others based on potential upcoming designs? Just think, 6 more years to go until the programs conclusion and how many more price increases? Crazy to think that the program was legislated and signed off on, to run from 2018-2032! SMH

Thanks for the info @CaliSkier. I was figuring someone would try to overstike a real quarter with a privy only die and then polish off the discontinuity. On the omega pennies there are people counterstamping an incuse omega into pennies (and even nickels) probably trying to sell them to the unaware.
