Cali with 15k perhaps the USM playbook calls for, striking 10k, selling a third to the boys and the BOTS suck up,the rest in minutes as to them 1804s....Pd will go,fast as well, thinner market but good mintage #, maybe a human can score one of the 2 if lucky. As RF notes not likely in current WR BotaPallooza mode

Yup and The BiMettalic BU was pricey as was Jackie BU but spot has absoarbed their numismatic premium. Back in the 70s run up we melted everything almost, Barbers, Seated, etc. all into the smelter. Maybe pull, out a high grade as it was coated, or,not. The USM pricing has defeated many who might want to start collecting ....the Botanical Nickel set popped to $300+ a
,pst 10x issue, it as well has retreated. Enhanced Rev ASE has held value pretty well... I have coins and gold in my genes, back 200+ years family was goldsmiths, etc....my kid not so much coins but baseball, cards, oh wow. And my Secretary's some bought an Ohtani Rookie auto last year for $3,500....he just sold it for ...$33,000!,,

I can only hope that the BOM 1804 and 2026 APdE sales go as smooth as today’s BOM Walking Liberty. Now, how will LMBA prices pan out over the next month leading up to those 2 releases? There had been a lot of Doom and Gloom by the Legion of Doomsayers regarding how spot prices would affect Mint gold product prices over the past 7 months. Looks like things so far have panned out better than they were expecting!

Congrats to all that p/u today’s Walking Liberty! PS There’s a chance next weeks price goes up $50-$75. Of course that doesn’t matter for those who don’t mind just chucking money out the window! LOL

In the video, he goes over raw, PR70’s and PR69’s, breaking down in an Excell spread sheet, the original cost, avg sale price on eBay, eBay fees, grading fees and shipping, gross profit or loss, as well as increase or decrease from the all time high, for the:

Zorro - Another factor is that the "younger" generation - those in their 20's-40's - use plastic for most of their transactions which eliminates a lot of change being passed back and forth. I've been collecting for 55 years and have seen the transition. My great niece is 10 and is fascinated by coins because she rarely sees them. The tide may turn but its doubtful.

Another problem with this blog is that it seems like the many of the discussions have nothing to do with coins but more toward PMs - Gold, Silver and then turning to IPOs, algorithms, etc. I'm just an occasional visitor now as the articles remain about the hobby but I'm not interested in all the other pontificating.

One clarifying point -

3.2x over release price was the average of the findings,

3.8x was usually the highest peak in secondary price,

2.8’ish was the bottom pool,

And then you had rare outliers like the 2001 Silver Buff, and Bi-Metal Library of Congress, Jack Robinson, and a hand full of others,

My folks started me when I was a kid collecting circulation quarters. It's fun to compete a set. I do see a trend in my generation towards "old things" like wooden toys for your kids, real Nongmo food, etc. Don't know any collectors though. Most of all I think it's the cost though. If you look at wages in terms of mcdonald burgers per hr, we have substantially less disposable income than previous generations. But we also have safer working conditions and supposedly more "work-life balance". I managed to find a great gig that's "like the old days" so I can afford the hobby. Many of me peers are penny pinching to just pay the mortgage on their 500k starter home.

Zorro -

A recurring topic we’ve been discussing for over 10 years on MNB and CN -

1) Ditto what Harry stated,

2) PMs are HOT HOT HOT

As in Costco PM, and other BU retailers,

USM PM is NOT, though demand has been most impressive, take the gold Buffalo, they sold close to 15,000 of a $5,000 coin in short order, that’s impressive,

3) We have a strong Secondary Market now, finally, and it has unfortunately brought in some bad actors, that are driving Bots, resulting in 15 second (26LD) to 41 second (Gold ENH UNC AGE) going unavailable,

People get peev’ed when they can’t even get through the Waiting Room to ATTEMPT to buy a coin,

4) On the whole, for these USM Modern Coins, probably 95% or better, NUMISMATIC VALUE is ERODED by spot inflation.., Read that again, ERODED by Spot Inflation,

This is a significant data, and one you will find, next to nothing, written about, surprisingly,

Back in 2019, I did in-depth research on the topic, (fathom that -real research rather than opinionated run on sentence garbage), and looked at 20 years of all the hot USM releases that increased significantly, and found that on the whole, they increased 3.2x over their USM release price, - that was the high-water mark, and then subsequently would back down to a more reasonable numismatic value over USM release price, and spot, until spot erodes the numismatic value - yes, there are outliers, though rare, and PR70’s maintain a premium over spot, though that erodes in time as well,

To Harry’s point, with the USM increase in prices, that 3.2x increase over release price is now days gone by, perhaps 26RF did briefly, well see how it fares, 2025 silver set FOMO, and couple others, though more like a flash in the pan,
