Reviewing my prior entry, it appears you will likely have to click on that icon in order to read what I wrote. For those of you that have difficulty doing so, here’s a repeat of what I said:

THE HIGGINS BOAT
  
The U.S. Mint’s 2023 Louisiana “American Innovation” $1 Coin depicts a World War II Higgins Boat landing on the beach at Normandy. As its innovative landing ramp opened, the last bastion of safety for all too many patriotic and brave Soldiers was exposed to German machine guns … and many gave up their lives.

While this coin is Legal Tender, since it was only released to coin collectors it is highly unlikely that you will ever see or get one in change. Its year, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are incused on its edge as well as a Privy Mark of a stylized Industrial gear on its Obverse.

This coin is a token of appreciation for your Service and Sacrifice to The United States of America and in the name of Freedom.

I planned to do this LONG before Veteran’s Day … when you could still buy $100 Bags of the 2023 $1 Higgins Coins.

I would present the Coin and shake the Veteran’s hand. Since they would typically struggle to see what it actually was, I would then immediately give them the attached card … printed 2-sided on photo quality paper folded to be the size of a business card with the Higgins description on the inside.

If you do this, be prepared for some very touching reactions.

For Veteran’s Day (and every day since) I gave every Vet I met a 2023 Louisiana Innovation Golden $ … the one that featured the Higgins Landing Boat. Along with it I included a business-card-sized-note Thanking Them for Their Service and Sacrifice as well as giving background on that coin … one that they would otherwise never see in change.

Their responses were universally touching … seeing that Golden Dollar as The Medal most of them never got.

How different a couple generations can be …..

@Antonio I was thinking of using my free shipping for possibly a 2024 Mint Set. I already got my RP AI$ set for this year. I have no expectation of them holding any value. I’m doing like @MajorD said and getting a few I like in RP. I used to get individual AI$ that I like, but now the USM bundles them and you have to buy all 4 for the year.

Agreed regarding the RP AI $ for this year. I thought the pictures were impressive.

That’s if you’re interested in the AI$ coins. I wonder if they’ll hold their value in the future. Same for the Presidential $ and Sacagawea $ coins.

You can still buy them from the Mint going back to 2019.
