Hello All

Off subject, just got a mint notification that 21XJ was available. This is the 2021 Reverse Proof Two Coin Silver Eagle set. I jumped into action and logged on and ordered it, but it was declined, the HOL was still set at 1. I tried one more time but they were all gone. I went from excited to depressed in two minutes.

Seth, Kaiser and anyone else lurking in the background, I’m glad you found my post appropriate, useful or informative. Thanks for adding to the “etc” Kaiser Wilhelm! Yeah overall, between the US and Canada, many atrocities, regarding children of Native Americans were and have been committed. I really find the stories of discovered corpse’s at many different “closed facilities” to be especially disturbing. Many of the same abuses and deaths occurred at these supposed, reform school/orphanages here in the US also with non-native American kids as well. Imagine your parents dying in an accident, no other adult family members and being sent to anyone of these hell holes, run by sadistic drunkards often times, to be tortured and abused in any way, humanly unfathomable. Beyond messed up and all I can say, is that I don’t have much tolerance for cruel, evil, sadistic human beings and wish that any and all of them were subject to some varying forms, of my perception of “Middle East Justice”! I realize 2 wrongs don’t make a right, however some times you “reap what you sow” and you have to fight fire, “with fire”!
PS I’m going to get technical Kaiser, LOL. Maria Tallchief is actually the US Mints first 8 product, 6-coin, “2” different denominations, honoree! There are 6 different coins amongst the 2 differing denominations. You are correct however as to the vast majority, all that’s recognized is a quarter dollar and a dollar. The color, metal, design, mint marks don’t matter, just the values of $.25, $1, that’s it!

Thanks Kaiser for the shared thoughts and insights, as well as meme! At first I couldn’t even see or read the attached words, as like a Labrador retriever is to water, CaliSkier is to snow or skiing! I just quickly flashed on how, for me, pretty much nothing else, good or bad exists whilst I’m blissfully taking a day in, on the snow! Absolutely as close to Nirvana as I’ll ever get, until that fateful day comes. Thanks again, as I’ll take each and every chance to even momentarily wander away from my current reality. I won’t share it here, as it’s a prized memory and possession and once I share it online, it’s a free for all and I can not fathom someone besides me capitalizing on my knowledge, good fortune, impressive timing and all that went into capturing an image of some “Figure 8” ski tracks I laid down one powder day in the Eastern Sierras. I was able to make 2 laps to a secluded/semi secret area, known affectionately as “Field of Dreams”, out of bound, ski down twice and Figure 8 my own previous trail. All before other skiers or snowboarders tracked it all out. Amazingly enough, the run out lent itself well and I was able to take a picture on my phone that is truly priceless! My mind keeps telling me to make them into limited run art work or figure out and begin selling some of my many, many, favorite pics as NFT’s. I do enjoy trying to capture feelings and emotions via photography. Nothing advanced, I just like trying, which isn’t easy, to capture that image that created or struck a feeling within! Similar to this attached image, however mine has “Bluebird skies” at the top. Something mesmerizing about tracking up, untracked snow! Could have some at least,
To do with the time, mileage, work it takes to get to a level of proficiency, that powder snow is “Fun” versus a complete nightmare? Ponder…
Also, this is what we, in the “know”, refer to as “Powder Farming”! In this case it’s an actual competition. However on powder days there an unwriten(maybe it is?) rule or etiquette where you try not to track up a slope by traversing or cutting through other tracks. Stay in the fall line and link turns until you get to the bottom! Return to top and repeat until all the untracked snow has been tracked. Who wants to write math problems on a chalk board, over the top of someone else’s work, versus having a nice “clean slate” to show your own work?

Kaiser,

Very true for sure. But, like with ticket scalpers for instance, I only paid "top retail" price once for a highly popular, sold out Las Vegas show once for me & a friend. With coins, I can wait till the market price goes down, if it ever does & then pounce on it from a dealer.

Kaiser,

True, it does make the hunt harder on items when the U.S. Mint's household limit is low. I do have a few of my favorite coin dealers/coin companies to turn to if I can't get the number of coins, coin sets or medals I need/want for myself & my 4 nephews. The most important consideration I give is that of the design & theme/topic. If the design appeals to me, then I pursue the item & also if I think the theme/topic appeals to the curiosity of my 2 younger nephews & 2 older nephews. They still ask me what they have since they were much younger about my new numismatic purchases - "What's in your briefcase today?" - and story time/history lesson begins.

CaliSkier,

Thanks for the interesting history & trivia about Tallchief. When the Mint announced that an AWQ coin & the Native American $1 coin would both feature her this year, I was surprised...I don't think that has happened before. She is the "Numismatic Diva" of the year for sure in that regard.

Major D,

Finding the AWQ coins you weren't able to get, especially the "S" roll ones from last year & this year can be part of the fun of the hunt. With approximate 6,000 coin dealers in the USA, across many venues/platforms, you should have no problem finding a supply - but price is another matter for major research. Good luck in your search for coins from this very nice series.

“Lucky 8”? There has never been eight individual different product offerings using the same theme and likely will never ever occur again in US Mint History! 8 products!

Interesting that there will be 8 different numismatic products issued this year, in addition to any(?) varieties that may or may not be established with “Maria Tallchief” as the main theme!

There will be a Philly, Denver, and San Francisco clad $.25, a San Fran (S( Ag proof and a Philadelphia as well as Denver $1! That’s a small series in itself? Oh yeah and then, last but not least, the 2 ornaments containing a Philly $.25 and Philly $1 respectively! 8 different products using 6 different coins!

Nice moves, Maria Tallchief! What a “Twist” of fate as a real life “Indian Princess” graces Americas coins and “jumps” to life! Ironic considering the History of Native Americans, post European, Exploration, Invasion, Exploitation, Indoctrination, as well as attempts at genocide, etc, IMO.

“In Oklahoma, Tallchief was honored by the governor for both her ballet achievements and her pride in her American Indian heritage. The Legislature declared June 29, 1953, as “Maria Tallchief Day.”[9] She is among four Indian ballerinas depicted in “Flight of Spirit,” a mural in the Oklahoma Capitol building.[9] Tallchief is a subject of one of the life-size bronze statues titled The Five Moons, located at the Tulsa Historical Society. Osage Nation honored her with the title “Princess Wa-Xthe-Thomba” (Osage: -͘, romanized: Wahle-ðǫpa, “Woman of Two Worlds” or “Two Standards”).“ (WP)

70 years ago, on June 29th, 1953, the Oklahoma Legislature declared the day, “Maria Tallchief” day! Again another swing and a miss by the US Mint! Why couldn’t they have scheduled her AWQ release for that day? Why?

Oh yeah, they wouldn’t want to get the reputation for making “cents”?
