Northern Mariana Islands Quarter, Bags and RollsThe US Mint began taking orders today for the final coin to be released as part of the 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Program.

The Northern Mariana Islands Quarter went on sale at Noon (Eastern) today, November 30, 2009. The coins are available in circulation quality two-roll sets and bags.

This particular program was a continuation of the successful State Quarter series that ran from 1999 to 2008 and featured 50 quarters, each with a different reverse showcasing a state.

The D.C. and U.S. Territories program extended the run by also including a design for the District of Columbia and the five United States Territories; the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and finishing with the Northern Mariana Islands.

2009 DC & US Territories Silver Proof SetThe United States Mint will offer the 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters Silver Proof Mint Set at noon ET on Monday, March 23. The six-coin set has a price tag of $29.95, plus shipping and handling.

Traditional annual coin sets are always very popular with collectors, but unlike the standard 2009 Quarters Proof Set, which launched on Jan. 5 and is priced at $14.95, the six quarter-dollars in the silver set are struck in 90 percent silver.

United States Mint 2009 District of Columbia & U.S. Territories Quarters Proof SetThe United States Mint will begin selling 2009 District of Columbia and U.S. Territories Quarters Proof Sets for $14.95 each on Monday, January 5, at noon (ET).

The set includes the six proof 2009 quarters with reverse designs honoring the District of Columbia (D.C.), the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Demand for this annual set is typically strong. According to the latest sales figures, the US Mint sold 672,004 of the 2008-dated version. Current eBay auctions have prices listed that are nearly double that of what the Mint charged.

Gov. Benigno R. Fitial revealed the selected Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) quarter design and has forwarded the decision to the United States Mint.

Unlike the quarter selection process for the District of Columbia and other U.S. Territories which involved public voting, the CNMI design was chosen by a three-member commission set up by the governor — attorney Teresa Kim, the governor’s special assistant for administration Esther Fleming, and Catherine Perry Anderson.
