With 2 1/2 days of LBMA gold am/pm fix prices to go and a weekly average of $4,533.65, we’re currently looking at another 3 tier price increase, before the release of the BOM 1804 on 8/27. If it holds, that would give us a drop day price of $5,690! I think there’s a good chance LBMA price escalates further and we actually end up with a 4 tier increase by Wednesday, which would lead to a drop day price of $5,740. PS Had we been able to buy them starting on 8/14 like the ABPP did, the set would’ve been $5,490. With the 5% premium that the ABPP pay for no competition and early release, they paid $5,764.50. PSS Had the set been released 3 weeks prior on 8/6, they’d have been $5,240!

The assumption of buying back $4 billion per week will stop the bleeding is as naive as it can be, when the overall debt exceeds $400 trillion.

Doom Loop

A self-reinforcing fiscal cycle occurs when rising national debt drives up borrowing costs, increasing interest payments and forcing the government to borrow even more. With total United States Federal debt above $40Trillion and annual interest costs exceeding $1.1Trillion, this pressure continues to intensify.

Billionaire Ray Dalio said investors should reduce their bond holdings and put as much as 15% of their money in gold to hedge against the risk of a US debt crisis that he warns could be just three years away.

In a LinkedIn post Friday, the Bridgewater Associates founder said investors should diversify across assets and countries with strong finances. Underweighting bonds and holding about 10% to 15% of a portfolio in gold and “a bit” of Bitcoin could both reduce risk and boost returns, said Dalio, who has long warned about the dangers of mounting government debt.

His comments come at a time when long-term Treasury yields have risen to multiyear highs and Japan, America’s largest foreign creditor, has sold US bonds to support the yen. To stem the bond rout, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent this week announced plans to boost buybacks of long-dated debt, a surprise move that so far has provided little more than short-term support.
