VinnieC, Now I’m a bit jealous! I would love to have a trail as nice as that to bike on, you lucky dog! Those Cannondale bikes sure last a long time and I was looking at one before finally deciding on the Trek. Never thought in a million years I’d spend a thousand dollars for one carbon wheel, let alone two! LoL. Cheers and enjoy that trail.

The Jordan River Parkway is mainly an urban trail that runs through some parklands. Some bit of pedestrian traffic slows things down in some place. The north side near Salt Lake can get a bit sketchy. It is about 45 miles long. I saw a few joggers and bikers yesterday, but it was pretty empty otherwise. In the winter things can below freezing.

In St. Pete FL, I used to ride the Old Gandy Bridge (Friendship Trail) It was only 2.6 miles long so I would do laps between St. Pete and Tampa. The demolished the old span after I left.

I don’t have the instrumentation to measure the profile, but I guess I can see the resultant stress die cracks.

VinnieC, How long is your bike trail and is it outside of any city? I’d love to have a nice long bike trail to ride without having to constantly monitor for vehicles. I wonder how many folks would even want to venture outside with temps over 100F, let alone push pedals for 16 miles. Respect!

I have a bottom of the line aluminum Cannondale R300 from 1999 weighing about 24 lbs. I stay on the bike trails and average 10-11 mph. I used to average about 13 mph in 1999. The heat knocked me down to 9.1 mph.

Just simple context, an opening and point of reference. Pete Apple is a respected, very reputable researcher and editor within the numismatic hobby!

I’d venture to say that numismatists and the hobby care who Pete Apple is! He definitely is not an internet dummy in any “cents” of the word! He has delivered a great piece on die diagnostics, relating to the topic of dishing and concavity observed, such as those E1 and Rick have previously had a dialogue exchange, specifically regarding the Kennedy half dollar.

In depth, historically significant, scientific in nature and how the Mint hub, die and coin production has evolved. Nothing written in stone, however the evidence provided, analysis given, as well as detailed pictures, has painted and interesting perspective IMO.
