You can find an abundance of them on eBay. I’ve bought over 35 of them and I’ve been giving them to family and friends as a momento for our nation’s 250th birthday.

@MikeHunt, I’m still having a harder time with the date strike. In the original V1 vs. V2 photo, the V1 had a softer focus so I couldn’t tell. Comparing V2 in the original photo to V1 in the 4 obverse photo (top left has the best focus) the date might seem a little sharper on V1. I did see the sandal notch thing that @CaliSkier saw. Taking photos, I find it hard to get the perfect alignment between the film (sensor) plane and the object plane.

The reverse do seem a bit weird. I wonder if the one that you can’t see anymore is because it was debris and it shifted?

P.S. I’m also the one that has a hard time telling between a PF-69 and a PF-70

As I’ve stated before, you know your stuff. But you are also the voice of reason.

I thought I had taken a picture of both coins together but it turns out I did not. So I tried to take them again with my Nikon. Emphasis on the word tried. It turns out that just a very small rotation really affects the light on its angle of viewing. So any date issue I see under magnification is not really visible in this picture. I’ll attach a full-res picture of all 4 coins and one can make the case for any of them being potentially better than the others.

But other than that, the Obverse sides were pristine. The small flecks that looked like dust were just that. And I am always amused by the way the background of a Proof can look Cameo just from its reflective background. I shot these as they laid side-by-side on a black towel.

One of the flaws on the Reverse of one was invisible today, not even under my magnifying glass. And the other only showed when you got at just the right angle. So maybe I am being too judgmental or just being a crabby old man.

I’ve never popped a capsule open and I won’t try it here. But one time the Mint shipped me a Silver Eagle without one side of the capsule. I just remember that the Silver Eagle had a very crisp/sharp edge. The only time in my life I was more surprised (and incapable of capturing the moment) was the first time I (almost) stuffed a basketball. I got one of those six sigma jumps, had my hand with the ball over the rim at a height high enough to do it … but was more surprised with the moment than actually being able to take advantage of it!

I may have to do 2 posts for the pictures … but let’s see.

It was a pleasure visiting our Nation’s Capital, your Hometown. Clean as a whistle, and out of 10,000 people I saw the other day, just 1 homeless dude. Much, much more to do upon a revisit. Driving, walking down Constitution Ave was amazing. The huge, block-long, historic buildings, with architectural similarities (columns, carvings, etc) is incredible in person – never knew…

Very hot & sticky for someone who lives in arid CO, and it’s ok!
