CaliSkier, I doubt if the boxes these BoM Dimes came in will stand the test-of-time, as they just seem to be flimsy cardboard and paperboard. If you can keep them in a cool, dry area/condition (and don't open the box often) these might be worth something 20 -25 years from now. Whether we're alive then is another story! LoL Cheers

Many thanks for your input and sharp eyes. But this is definitely a case where misery does not enjoy company. Fyi I have never done grading. The first one where I was "tempted" to do so was on the original Carson City dollar hoard. But either by not having the money to do it as well as the vision that "the packaging" might be worth a lot some day, didn't. But I don't think my Pennies on this one wouldn't fair well. That said, you can't send them back or you will never get a replacement. So I guess a glass that is half full is better than no glass at all. I really appreciated your comments and insight. --- Mike

Craig, this is a closed cell, die cut polyethylene black foam though! I mean, c’mon, how could you resist the quality, as well as dampening and shock absorbing characteristics in play while in transit? LOL I agree and think it would have been most appropriate for our 250th Anniversary Semiquincentennial Celebration and “Best of the Mint” series, for them to have gone all out, using beautiful wooden boxes akin to what was used for the 2009 Ultra High Relief St Gaudens $20, American Gold Buffalo’s previously or 2007-2016 and 2020 First Spouse Gold coins IMHO. Just saying… PS Yes, there is always aftermarket product of some sort, however classy official wooden boxes made exclusively for this product, would have given the coins an extra added special touch! PSS Yes they were bulky, however more collectors keep the OGP vs those being sent off for TPG.

Hello Mike.

Your eyes are not deceiving you at all, I see the same thing with my 71 years old eyes too, LOL. I looked at my Cent with a 6 power glass and it shows the same issues as yours. The ripples you are referring to are more like die marks but not that well defined. I don't called them scratches because they look more frosted than shinny marks. The pin pick marks are lots more than just two on my coin, above the left side of the Shield and the blob on my coin is located on the Lincoln right side of the coat, and slightly below and to the left of the mint mark. I also found some shaded or dark lines areas right under the bottom tip of the shield, and extending to left and next to the initials to the right. I'm not planning on sending the coins for grading so I will keep the set, I'm good with it as is.

What do you think about what the mint used to hold the coins in place? For $810, I was expecting something nicer than a spongy plastic holder. That circular piece goes below the medal. Man, they really spared no expense on this display box!

@MikeHunt sometimes I see plastic shavings from the lens, I always see a lot of lint, Also the frosting some time create optical illusions. The pin prick doesn't song good. In my D Morgan I had a lot of micro dimples. Hope your defects most turn out to be FOD rather than actual defects.

@Craig I see your point about the size. It also added about $164 to the set price vs. something less. There are a few BOM medals that I just don't like. There are a few I like the obverse or reverse.

The gold dime purchase was more of a FOMO decision. I could have done without it. So I don't mind so much about Sept. I might try for the 1804 Draped Bust.

Ugh. I hate to hear that, Mike. I haven't dived in with the loupe yet. Now I'm scared to. The cursory look I took appeared fine.
