it’s all a matter of perspective. versus earlier this week yeah not so hot. versus 2 months ago they are still flying high.

so i had to actually check, and it looks like ZSL has reverse split already – 5 times in its history! here are all 6 splits listed:

4/15/2010 – 1:10
2/25/2011 – 1:4
5/11/2012 – 1:5
11/13/2015 – 2:1 (this is a ‘normal’ split, not reverse)
5/26/2021 – 1:4
11/7/2024 – 1:4

these are cumulative so that means if you bought 1600 shares when this thing launched and didn’t sell or buy any, today you would have exactly 1 share, worth only about $2 or so right now. this is apparently not something you want to hold for very long (well it is ‘ultrashort’ I guess they are hinting at that in the marketing already)

splits only affect the price and shares outstanding, it doesn’t change the strategy (so it would remain 2x leverage short). i didn’t check price history, but I would presume that the price just before each reverse split must have been nearing the $1 level. that’s really the only reason to do a reverse split, because it costs the company a ton of money to issue a split and there is no actual gain in value to the company, it just prevents it from getting delisted.

Yes, I’ve been waiting for ZSL to reach penny stock status. Yet, I wasn’t too sure of the implications. Delisting – Great! Yes – Make it go away! This is a horrible instrument that promotes market manipulation and the SEC should shut it down. Reverse Split, that’s Evil. Will that reverse split make ZSL a 4X instead of a 2X? I hope not.

I don’t remember ZSL having much of an effect in the 2007-2008 Silver Market. But it is certainty profound this time around.

that price is getting pretty close to $1 below which they are at risk of getting delisted – I would assume they will be doing a reverse split soon.
