Over the previous few years, the U.S. Mint has taken a dangerous step in auctioning off select products aimed squarely at the elite collectors with deep pockets. With the unreasonable rise in initial pricing to quality issues having driven away the average collector this latest shift only further damages the hobby. I myself have already dropped a few of what were annual subscriptions because in the end, the value is simply not there nor justified. I often wonder if they look closely at the year to year sales figures. Many of which are still available years after release with few if any buyers.

Joseph, this is at least partially or wholly due to interpretation and or the parser’s dream? In the Stack’s Bowers auction and each lot’s description, they state: “While a version of the cent will live on as part of annual Proof and Mint sets with special finishes, these Omega coins serve as the conclusion to the classic circulating finish that has helped countless Americans pay for a can of soda or a candy bar across more than a century.”

The key focal point is the “finish” of the coin vs whether it actually circulated, with this exact design. Point is, “these Omega coins serve as the conclusion to the classic circulating finish”, with “circulating finish” being the key to them describing accurately.

I’ve posed the question previously as to what “finish” will they use in 2026? Satin, enhanced, frosted, or?

They state, “the cent will live on as part of annual Proof and Mint sets with special finishes”. What is implied regarding “special finishes”? No doubt this is a bit confusing or misleading, however not fraud IMO.

Why is it not fraud for those involved to market these as the "last circulating" pennies - when these are a strictly numismatic issue - no identical coins ever circulated - and numismatic varieties will still be minted in 2026 and beyond?

Thanks Kinda too late in the game for me. Ref’s Distributions soon will be next. Taxes and increase in MediCare and Rx charges make it almost a non starter ….indeed I did refer to self reporting. The funny thing is reevaluation of your extra MediCare etc., charges occurs every 2 years or so amd mine is finally gonna drop.
