Good question Rich! I feel as if the Mint usually does this, as you say around 3pm EST. However something tells me that, technically they could do this, as soon as their source provides them with the Wednesday LBMA PM close price, which is set at 3pm London/10:00am EST. Hmm, ponder?

Cali,

An equally important question to ask is what time on Wednesdays does the USM make the price changes. I have observed that time to be around 3:00pm ET.
For instance, here are the times (ET) the price change occurred today for a sampling of their Gold, Platinum and Palladium coins:

1/2 oz Gold Comic Art @ 2:55pm
1 oz Gold Buffalo @ 2:55pm
1 oz Gold American Liberty @ 3:05pm
1 oz Gold Eagle Proof 2025 @ 3:05pm & 2024 @ 3:00pm
1 oz Gold Eagle Uncirculated 2025 @ 3:05 pm & 2023/2024 @ 3:00pm
1 oz Platinum Eagle @ 2:55pm
1 oz Palladium Eagle = no price change

Cag do you know if the U.S. Mint pricing range table uses LBMA data from the previous Wednesday through Tuesday or from the previous Thursday through Wednesday? I ask for further reference in order to be able to calculate future price changes. Thanks!

On the Mints “Pricing Criteria” page, the final deciding factor appears to be the “Wednesday London P.M. Fixed” rate, which is taken into consideration after first looking at the “Weekly Average London Fixed” price. The reason I ask, is that since the LBMA says: “we publish prices with delay to midnight London time on the day they are set.”, I’m a bit confused, as it appears that the Wednesday AM & PM fixes won’t be logged or published until midnight tonight U.K. time or 7pm EST this evening. Which we know that the Mint changes price, if applicable well before 7pm on Wednesday’s. My deductive reasoning, although only as good as the known data points, indicates that the Mint uses the Wednesday through Tuesday data points in order to apply the price range table and pricing criteria?

PS Or is the Wednesday London P.M. Fix price technically, the number we see from Tuesday and that is the price used to sell gold on Wednesday’s. Just want to learn, thanks again.

Antonio, PM’s are definitely hot today! Silver currently(9:54am) up 2.55%, Gold 1.31%, Platinum(Pt) 2.9% , and Palladium(Pd) 6.24%! Even Rhodium seeing a little action with .72%.

KC&SO, Cag do you guys have a go to source to see the LBMA Wednesday AM and PM fixes? I know that the close times are: AM close 10: 30am London/5:30am EST. and PM close 3pm London/10:00am EST. However according to their website: “we publish prices with delay to midnight London time on the day they are set.”
