I don't think we should be putting any people on coins. The facts I presented were just the facts of what had happened in the past. There are so many natural and American things we could put on coinage that would be a million times better than dead (or live) Presidents. More natural sites, Animals like the Buffalo nickel and accomplishments of all Americans could be on coins instead of dead Presidents. We have lots of unique animals that could represent the US like alligators, salamanders, frogs, many types of fish, deer, elk, moose, many types of birds, wolves, foxes, Bigfoot, manatees, dolphins, whales, turkeys, sharks, mountains, waterfalls, parks not on the park series Quarters, American inventions and so many other things people have suggested over the years.

I'm all aboard for no more people on coins and paper money.

As for the presidential dollars, I believe the legislation allows for a dollar and spouse coin program to continue the series after a president dies, like they did with Bush 41. I'm sure the Carter dollar and spouse coins are in the works so I would not get my undies in a bunch over when it comes out because it should be out in the near future. George H. W. Bush died in 2018 and his dollar came out in 2020, so the Carter dollar should be out in 26 or 27 based on the design development time with Carter passing at the end of December in 2024.

@KCSO, that Carter spouse gold is another gold for you to add to your list possibly for 26.

i'm sure he couched it in some way to be correct (like, no living person on a circulating us coin - commemoratives are not circulating coins). no living identifiable person appears on us circulating coins (though, as we know, several women were models for various depictions of liberty in the past but they are not identifiable by name as being those women).

the old 1866 law specifically applies to paper currency where the name of the person appears under the likeness, and not coins. there are other laws (including the one for the semiquincentennial) that say no living people can be depicted on coinage, but of course these are both just laws that congress can change if they like.

traditionally the reason we don't put living people, especially presidents, on coins is that we don't want to do what the british did, which is to have the currently reigning king or queen on every single coin and piece of currency - basically, if the british had a tradition, the US would NOT carry over that tradition (that's even why we drive on right not the left!)
