@CaliSkier, I feel your pain.

(1) Coin tarriffs are confusing to me. Harmonized Tariff Schedule section 7118 seem to cover coins. In particular section 7118.90.00 Other, seems to cover most of what I am interested in. 7118.10.00 Coin (other than gold coin), not being legal tender seems not to be applicable. Both say "free", but I wonder if there is a superseding reciprocal tariff that applies.

(2) The RC Mint once charged me some sort of local tax. I'm not sure if it was a state sales/use tax. I think Utah has different rules for PM vs base meta and legal tender coin sales tax.

(3) On E-Bay, I've been charged sales tax where I shouldn't have. The seller probably mis-categorized their product. Utah does not charge sale tax on PM coins and legal tender coins. I wonder if in (2) the RC Mint got it wrong too. The sales tax thing sometimes even happens on US coins.

(4) Are the shippers charging a customs processing fee even if there is tariff due?

I don't want to become an import/export tax expert.

I got a Canadian silver selectively plated penny, but it was not the one you were talking about. I was a penny sized penny that was part of an annual set.

My silver Kiwi and silver Kangaroo purchases are also in jeopardy.

On topic of the Royal Canadian Mint(RCM). I decided that there were a few coins I liked and wanted from the RCM the other night. However, I’d forgotten about this little caveat. “Notice: Please note starting August 29, 2025, new U.S. customs requirements may cause delays in shipments from the Mint to U.S. addresses.
In accordance with the Terms of Sale, the purchaser or, as applicable, the importer (the person receiving the goods in the destination country if not the purchaser) is responsible for the payment of any applicable tariffs. Terms of sale page reiterates with additional info: “The purchaser or the importer, as applicable, is responsible for the payment of applicable taxes and customs duties, including but not limited to HST/GST, tariffs, ad valorem, excise, governmental charges and any other duty or tax. If the coins are returned due to the failure by the purchaser or the importer, as applicable, to make payment of applicable taxes and customs duties, the purchaser will pay the return shipping charges and assume all risk of loss in the return shipment.”

So although already pricey at $552.80 for 6oz of silver and free shipping, I wasn’t willing to pay an additional 25%-35% in tariffs!

* Targeting of numismatic products:Unlike bullion, which has historically been exempt, numismatic coins (collectibles with a value beyond their precious metal content) have become subject to new U.S. tariffs. Some collectors have reported receiving bills for duties as high as 35% on RCM coins.
* Suspension of courier de minimis exemption: Effective July 31, 2025, the U.S. revoked the $800 de minimisexemption for low-value courier shipments from Canada. This means dealers using couriers to ship numismatic items valued under $800 to the U.S. can no longer bypass customs and duties.

$92.13 per ounce, considering what the U.S. Mint charges us wasn’t too bad, however with tariffs I would have ended up paying $691-$746.28 vs $552.80. That works out to $115.16- $124.38 per ounce. Although I really like the coins and would have enjoyed ownership, thanks, but no thanks! Reason being partially, although when selling U.S. coins back to a LCS or other online retailer, you’ll take a huge hit, you’ll take an even deeper bath when attempting to liquidate RCM coins in the same manner or even with any other secondary market venues.

For any interested in my selections, they were the, 2025 Silver Maple Leaf – 1-oz. Fine Silver Ultra-High Relief Coin (2025), Great Hunters: Grey Wolf – 1 oz. Fine Silver Ultra High Relief Coin, 4 coins in theTribute: W Mint Mark series – 2024 Coat of Arms - 50-Cent Pure 1oz Fine Silver Coin, 2024 Caribou – 25 Cent- 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin, 2024 Bluenose –10 Cent- 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin, and 2025 Beaver –5 Cent- 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin. I would have needed to p/u the other 2 coins to complete the set(6 coins) from Gatewest. That would have been the 2023 Polar Bear - $2- 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin and 2023 Loon -$1 - 1 oz. Fine Silver Coin. Those also would have been more costly as well, as they are based out of Canada also. I wanted the 1oz W Tributes to complement my 5oz Silver” Big Coin” Series(7 coins) from 2018, which were selectively plated in rose gold and contained a bonus coin, “The Penny”, a 1 Cent 5oz Silver Coin! Oh well, maybe someday off of the secondary market, when the price is right and likely cheaper? PS The 2018 Big Coin series has a nice wooden beauty box that holds all 7 coins that’s pretty nice! Those are the most expensive 5oz’ers I own by a long shot! I like em’ though and really wanted them! Talk about premiums? Ouch! Just saying…

I can do with some momos but the Tibetan restaurant downtown stopped doing their lunch buffet curing COVID and it never came back. You can get it a la carte, but it always goes better with the rest of the buffet.

I bought my 2009 UHR Gold Eagle at the ANA show for $1,289 I beleive. I think that was about a $300+ premium over spot (Which was over 33%). Today I think the premium for an OGP coin is still a little more than $300 over spot. I guess the mintage was huge at about 114,000 or 115,000. So I think my only gain was the PM value of the coin. I'm wonder how the lower mintage FHG or the 2025 Liberty Gold will behave in the long term.

I have a 2014 Britannia Horse Year Obverse Mule. I keep on looking at the the ones one sale and they all look like that have milk clouds (far worse than spots) near the rim. I'm guessing the Royal Mint had problems during that time period.

@Caliskier. This morning I was looking at the "ats" numbers for the Morgan and Peace and thinking the sale really suck. LOL. I made the same mistake.
