Speaking of...
Number 45 FHG Privy is looking good for the seller.
With 3 days to go, the current bidder has commited to pay $54,560 for the coin. I could see an Invoice approaching $60k for the winner on this one. Not a bad ROI imo...

Nah. I've already got the coin. I don't need the first, or the last, for that matter. I just want one (like #3 of the FHG Privy).

Whew, I may be off the hook! The coins were minted in June 1999 as a "pattern" for the 2000 release of the Sacagawea Dollar. I know. It's a technicality but it might serve as a useful excuse/rationalization if I can't obtain one.

Some of the more notable tidbits regarding the 2000-2008 Sacagawea $1’s produced/issued.

2000 W(P) Sacagawea 22K Gold Mintage 12, PCGS (7)($ ?) encapsulated/graded(?). Stack’s Bowers to auction September 12, 2025.(Detailed feathers variety)

2000 D Sacagawea VIP Mintage 120, with 2 graded.* PCGS MS68(2)($12,500)

2000 P Sacagawea VIP Mintage 600, with 3 graded.* PCGS MS69(3)($?)

2000 P Sacagawea Cheerios Mintage 5,500 (Detailed feathers variety) PCGS MS68(71)($11,500), 1 finer at MS68+($?).

2000P Sacagawea Goodacre Mintage 5,000, All were initially in ICG holders and given “mint state” grades. Jeff Garrett purchased 2,000 of the coins directly from Glenna Goodacre and had them graded by PCGS, with special labels designed, then signed by former U.S. Mint Director Phillip Diehl. 2,699 graded examples are now in PCGS holders. PCGS MS69(32)($5.200)

2025 W Sacagawea 24K Gold Mintage 7,486

*These coins were struck using specially prepared dies and planchets. They exhibit a duller satiny finish versus the brighter appearance on circulation strikes. They were also struck on a press that was calibrated to strike medals and coins for uncirculated mint sets, i.e. struck at a slower speed and higher pressure to bring up the relief of the designs.

Mule/Error?
2000 D Sacagawea $1 Muled w/South Carolina reverse. 1 known and is graded NGC MS64 . Sold for $66,000 at Heritage Auctions, December 15, 2022. A bit of irony, is that Thomas D Rogers Sr., the designer/sculptor of the 2000-2008 Sacagawea reverse, also happened to be the designer/sculptorr of the South Carolina Statehood quarters reverse.

2000 (P) Sacagawea $1 Muled w/Washington Statehood Quarter obverse. At least 20 known. Highest price paid was $194,062.50 on January 21, 2024 for a PCGS MS66, at Great Collections auction. The Mint located and destroyed an additional 350K examples struck.

2000 (P) Sacagawea Wounded Eagle Error 898 graded at PCGS AU53(1)($100) - MS68(6)($6,000)

Additional Sacagawea numismatic noteworthy news, Mike Castle passed away on August 14, 2025 in Greenville DE, he was 86. He was the former Governor of Delaware and a former congressman as well. While as a member of the U.S. House Committee on Financial Services, his actions included spearheading legislation that resulted in the circulating commemorative 50 State quarter dollars and Sacagawea dollar programs. Coin World published a piece titled: “Delaware legislator Michael Castle passes at age 86”, on August 21, by Paul Gilkes. Paul wrote: “During his tenure in Congress, Mr. Castle was recognized for his immense interest in numismatics.

In 1995, Mr. Castle drafted and introduced the legislation that created the American Eagle platinum bullion coin first introduced in 1997.

Mr. Castle subsequently sponsored the legislation that created the 50 State quarter dollars program (1999 to 2008), Sacagawea dollar (2000 to 2008), Presidential dollar coins (2007 to 2016, 2020), America the Beautiful quarter dollars programs (2010 to 2021), and several commemorative coins, including the 2006 silver dollars honoring Benjamin Franklin, one of Mr. Castle’s fifth great-grandfathers.”

Additionally, on the NEXT PAGE hyperlink(bottom right in blue) of the link(below) to “Sacagawea Dollars VIP Strikes” that talks about the 2000 D and P VIP Sacagawea Dollars, they talk about another special 2000 D Sacagawea Dollar, that is different from what had gone into circulation. “Denver Mint Employee Appreciation Sacagawea Dollar”(Approx 600). In 2007, apparently the Philadelphia Mint offered a similar program to their employees, however the coins were no different from those intended for or entering circulation.
PS These links can also be located by searching the web for the “Small Dollars” dot com website. PSS On November 28, 2007 Thomas D Rogers Sr, designer of the Sacagawea’s 2000-2008 reverse design, regarding the information contained in, at or on “Small Dollars”‘dot com. “"......your website really rocks! You don't just have a website about small dollars....In my estimation
you have THE website. Lots of information, well covered. Congratulations.......Tom"
