ECG, it seems like only the 2021 LESPS, with the two ASE Proofs (the 2021-W Type 1 and 2021-S Type 2), value is holding up, currently selling for $320 (original mint price was $235). Even the 2017 LESPS, which had the sought after 2017-S Proof Silver Eagle, can be had for $170 (original Mint price was $140).

Yeah, Iohn Q, the Mint got greedy and it definitely should have been 1 and done in 2021. With 200K 2021 Peace dollars and 175K of each mint mark(CC, O, (P), S, D) for the 2021 Morgan’s, they definitely saw a cash cow for the milking/taking in subsequent years! 2023 not too bad all things considered, however now they are stuck with a ton of 2024 product and will end up sitting on 2025 product even though they lowered the mintages.

In reply to <a href="https://www.coinnews.net/2025/08/31/california-gold-rush-sunken-treasure-coming-to-imex-in-nashville-sept-4-6/#comment-564842">c_q</a>.

Close but no cigar c_q. You are very close however, like the Mint, just a tad off.

First of all, the Product Limit for the 2025 LESPS(25RC) can be found by looking at the subscription and that is 25,008 with a “Mintage Limit of “None” as it should be.

2nd, you said: “the ‘product limits’ can add up to more than the ‘mintage limit’, but no product could go over it’s product limit, even if there are available coins that could have gone into it.” Not quite.

U.S. Mint: “Mintage Limit is the total number of a coin manufactured across all products. (For example, a coin may be available in rolls and in our annual sets).
Product Limit is the number of a coin made available in the individual product.”

In this case, the 2025 S American Silver Eagle Proof, item number 25EM has both a stated Mintage and Product Limit of 110,000. This means that the “Mintage Limit” total across ALL product options, should NOT exceed more than 110K, PERIOD.

However, this is not the case, due to a couple of additional products where this coin is available. As known, the 2025 S ASE PF is also available in the 2025 LESPS and will also be available to the Numismatic Bulk Purchase Program/Authorized Bulk Purchase Program(NBPP/ABPP) members in bulk 40-coin trays. So, although the U.S. Mint stated a “Mintage Limit” of 110K, for the 2025 S ASE PF coin(25EM), they are slated to go over their own stated “Mintage Limit” of 110K. The Product Limit is correct at 110K, as there will be a maximum of 110K of this given product(25EM). The total of all products(Product Limits) combined however, technically should not tally more than the actual Mintage Limit. So if we add item 25EM(2025 S ASE PF coin) + 25RC(2025 LESPS) + 25EM040(NBPP/ABPP), that number should “not” go above the current stated 25EM “Mintage Limit” of 110K.

In this case, based on known numbers both listed on their website in conjunction with the ability to check inventory with the links Rick and VinnieC have posted about, we have 110K(25EM) + 25,008(25RC) + 23K(25EM040), which as of now is 158,008 and exceeds the 25EM “Mintage Limit” of 110K, by 48,008 coins. Again, the “Mintage Limit” should not be greater than 110K.

So in essence, the total “product limits” when added together, can NOT or should not add up to more than the “mintage limit” and also no product could or should go over its declared target or noted “product limit”.

Many U.S. Mint customers do indeed care about and shop with “Mintage” and “Product” Limits in mind. The U.S. Mint, has noted this as being important as well, by noticeably posting or listing those details for many other products over the past many years. Going back roughly at least 20 or more years ago, with the 2006 American Silver and Gold Eagle 20th Anniversary Sets coming to mind. They’ve even gone so far, as to define “what” a Mintage and Product Limit is defined as! However they seemingly, although supposedly competent “CAN NOT” get this important detail correct and properly used and noted on their product listings too many different times, for me to even keep track of. It is what it is and nothing says they have to abide by what they promote, it’s just aggravating, as I’m one who has and does shop, using Mintage and Product limits as a consideration, in order to potentially get a feel for potential long term secondary market demand and price.

PS You were correct in your initial statement c_q when you said: “so, from what i understand ‘mintage limit’ is the number of that coin that can be made, and ‘product limit’ is how many of the product (the packaging and inclusion of coins) can be made.” Then things got a little twisted as you attempted to elaborate. PSS Many products also have an “AB” suffix attached to the item number, which is a part of the ABPP program. These products do not show up as an individual line item number in the Mints weekly sales reports and they are accounted for and commingled in the non “AB” weekly reports at some point. These are a part of the totals we see listed on a weekly report in conjunction with subscriptions I believe(?), prior to a coins actual publicly scheduled drop day. Examples are 25EM and 25EMAB. One where you can currently see this is the September 4, 2025 American Palladium Reverse Proof coin(25EK), not available for sale yet, which showed sales of 179 on the 8/24 weekly numismatic sales figures.
