It appears as if there were two others also in the mix. Bidder 8 came in a few hrs later to eke you out, only to be outbid by bidder 9 a bit later at 20.6k. #8 came back & made a snipe attempt with just 6 seconds left with a $21.7k bid, but #9’s earlier secret max prevailed. I bid $20k as I headed out the door. It went for $22k, but who knows how high it might have gone with a second active bidder. I’ll pick myself up, dust off, and get in line for the sister.

I have a roll of 1957 Proof Abe’s, there are NO cameos, had it 30+ years. I am looking for that 1955/1955 Proof….. guess I need to look at all the <1960 Proof Sets for cameos…..

Yes, that’s a money coin today. Was not the case 30 years ago. Some of those early (1950-1955) Lincoln Cents in DCAM are next to impossible to find. But $34K – Yikes! How about an early Proof Franklin in that grade – Double Yikes!

I would expect strong bidding approaching the Price Guides? But who knows, there’s been a ton of trading/saturation going on lately. An early bid at your secret maximum is risky, as it becomes a target vs a surprise, potentially making it a more expensive coin in the end? Anyway…
The PCGS coin: Since there is no pic of the coin in the holder yet, chances are that It’s being re-holdered & beaned as we speak(holder damage is visible on the reverse as posted – cloudy areas). PS: Both coins are ‘sisters’, struck at a later die stage(cracks & clashes), and both are VAM 2’s(no added value) – front & back… Good luck!

Nice pair, the top has a real,clean reverse & the lower a better obverse, one rim hit on top coin. Nice, that hole will unfortunately remain empty in my Dansco …
