At its price point time will tell. I think it’s touted but long term it’s’just’ A medal. FHS has legs and many waiters, this not so sure…

Hi Antonio,
I was just thinking about our paper money being so fragile about a week ago when I was re-reading an old sci-fi novel I originally read about 35 years ago. In it, a character gets involved with infinite alternate universes. It was a pretty clever idea I thought. One universe discovered how to observe and eventually cross over to others. They realized that all possible research, military and other, was being done by some other universe somewhere so they could spy and lift whatever research they wanted. This one focused on nuclear, that one focused on biological weapons instead, things like that. It was like having infinite research teams researching everything simultaneously for the cost of one project. That was the part I thought was very clever. The currency part came up when the character was in another universe and received some. I had forgotten about that part since I had read it last, understandable since I had no special interest in coins or currency at the time. He examined it in interest because of the obvious differences with his own currency and theirs. He noticed it was made of a different material and tried to tear off a corner---But couldn't!. Imagine how much money our government would save (pun intended) not having to replace our currency every, what is it, 18 months or something? The book was written in 1989.
Your hundred dollar bill must be in very bad shape. I do not know what grade you have to go down to reach face value only, but it has to be very bad. The worst $1000 I ever saw was still worth more than $1000 and I thought it looked really bad. I assume it would be the same with an old $100 bill like yours. I don't remember details but I do remember thinking that if I ever saw a $1000 bill somewhere that someone tried to use that it would be always worth making an offer of $1000 for it if the clerk refuses it because even crappy ones are worth more than $1000. That thought stuck with me, though I never saw one of course. Did have a bank teller tell me once that a local rich guy (I still remember which one and he is still alive) turned in all his $1000 bills maybe as little as 10 years earlier (sometime in the late 90s to early 2000s that would have been). I asked not long after I bought one for myself at Littleton (and it is worth considerably more today than I paid for it from them, which is a rare occurrence for my Littleton purchases), so I asked the teller if they still see any. I was really sorry I was not around when that happened. I would have bought as many as I could of from the teller if she would have let me, and she probably would have. Now that would have been me simply trying to make easy money, though there is no doubt I would have pulled a few nice ones to keep. With all my coin and my few currency purchases I originally bought each because I took a liking to them for whatever reason (I had never seen a $1000 bill in real life until I bought one, for example). Making a profit is secondary but welcome though I firmly did intend that my purchases would hold their value at the least. It was a shock to my system when I found I could not get what I paid for my ASE collection when I tried to sell it last year. The ASEs I had bought at Littleton when I started collecting again are the reason. I will have to wait for Silver to get closer to $50 an ounce before I try again.

I should have bought the medal when I had the chance. I might pick one up at a coin show if I like what I see.
However, if I was a general in the US Army and had anything to do with the 101st airborne, I would have bought as many gold and silver Sunflowers as I could. I love the Eagle on the reverse. Looks like a screaming Eagle. I would use those coins and medals as rewards for exemplary behavior by those great men of the 101st airborne.

I missed the delivery of the Gold Sunflower Liberty by about 5 minutes today. I will have to pick it up tomorrow at the post office. The postal carrier didn't leave me a notice.
I got the Laser ASE on Saturday. I didn't know the whole die was laser engraved. I thought it was just the privy. I've got to look harder at the coin. My eye as not as keen as everybody else's. Here his the privy

The government is still minting cents? Canada discontinued their cents 13 years ago. Their currency is polymer, as is Mexico's. We're living in the past. I believe Euro bills are also polymer. I don't know about roubles, yuans and yen. We need to welcome to the future. I have a 1934 hundred dollar bill but I believe it's only worth $100. It's nice to have but only as a collectible. That's why I collect, as a hobby.

It's a lovely medal but does it have staying power? Ten, twenty years from now, will it hold its value? Will anyone want to buy one? I'm thinking about the long term prospects.
