Cali,

I estimate the typical TPG Variance to be +/- One Half of a Grade. I also estimate the Variance from TPG to TPG to be +/- One Half of a Grade also. Therefore, I tend to shy away from the Top Pop Coins on new releases. In addition, I expect a very small number of MS70 2025 P&D Lincoln Cents to emerge from the High Quality 2025 US Mint's Uncirculated Coin Sets. Finally, no 2025 "PL" Lincoln Cents have emerged in PCGS's or NGC's Census Reports. Of the 10 P&D Lincoln Cent pairs that I did purchased this year (US Mint Set Singles), none were of the PL variety.

Cheers

One thing is for sure Rick, with the 2012 example coin you provided. The designer/engravers initials are way more unobtrusive, as they should be.

BTW, thanks for the CC#1/“Census Condition” explanation regarding the Rick Springfield Coin Auction a few threads back!

Also, E1 those 2025 Lincoln Cents(P&D) in MS69 RD are quite pricey!($1,955/$1,999) One seller does have 2-coin P & D MS68 RD’s for $299.99. I kind of like the look of those NGC flag cores. Curious your thoughts on the price of the MS68’s? Going rate, over or under priced? Pretty big spread of prices on the MS68.s, at $299(BIN)-$599(Flag Core, 1 bid)

Comic Art 24-Karat Gold so far. My opinion...
I like the Batman Reverse over the Obverse. The eagle is too big up front, crowding out the scene and the PF field.
I like the Wonder Woman Obverse over the Reverse. The birds out back are a bit much, but the Earth in the background saves it.
Both are better than the Superman design.
Wonder Woman is my favorite design overall of the three Heros.
Why? The Obverse image just looks Patriotic. She is Liberty over WW here, beautiful.
The contrasting Stars & Stripes(PF vs Frost) send it over the top.

Rich previously asked or commented: “Is the Laser Privy the first American Eagle Silver Proof Coin minted using laser-engraved dies (source: US Mint Press Release, 8/13/25), or is the Army Privy the first laser engraved proof ASE, as mentioned by T 3d above?”

A very good question Rich. The best I can answer is that some sources would seem to indicate that the Army Privy coin may have been the first, to use this amount of laser system engraving technology.

The Mint indicated that the Laser Privy was the “first” ASE proof coin to use lasers for the die fabrication process. “This product is the first American Eagle Silver Proof Coin minted using laser-engraved dies.”’ After digesting that statement and the following information below, an argument could be made for the Army Privy being first IMO. I believe that the Army Privy dies, Laser Privy Dies and upcoming Marine Corps Privy, as well as the Navy Privy dies are using the exact same combination of three technologies. None of the dies were created using solely, “laser system” technology, as best I can tell.

Coin World(see link below) wrote that: “The Army privy mark depicts central design elements of the Army seal. The Marine Corps privy mark depicts devices of the U.S.M.C. seal, and the Navy privy mark depicting devices of the Navy seal.
New laser engraving technology is being employed in the production of the dies for these privy-marked American Eagle silver dollars. The laser engraving will strengthen elements of the design devices, including Liberty’s eye, her Phrygian cap, the eagle’s feathers and the initials of Walking Liberty sculptor Adolph A. Weinman.“. At the end of that article, click on the link in red at the end of this following copied sentence. “The U.S. Mint posted a “digital media toolkit” on its website.” (Link in red embedded in CW article below)

At the very least, a fair amount of the dies used for the Army Privy were created using lasers. Same as for the ASE Laser Privy dies.

The “view on YouTube” link below the heading in the Digital Media Toolkit, under “250th Anniversary United States Navy American Eagle One Ounce Silver Proof Coin”, would seem to imply that 3 separate techniques(1:01) were used to create(?) the Army Privy Dies? Skilled engravers, CNC machining, and laser systems. The Laser Privy ASE dies were not created exclusively using laser systems according to the U.S. Mints own press release. I’m going with 3 techniques were combined to produce both the Army Privy dies and the Laser Privy dies also. The Laser Privy master dies were NOT made using “only”’ laser system technology.

Ultimately, read the Coin World article, check out the U.S. Mint embedded link and information, the. let me know your thoughts, if you come to a different conclusion. The Coin World article by Paul Gilkes and links to the U.S. Mints “Digital Media Toolkit” information page on Military Privy die fabrication and coin production, is or should be more or less identical, to what was used on the Laser Privy ASE’s as well. CW article title: “Military privy marks on 2025 Proof American Eagle dollars”.

PS The Mint IMO was using “creative marketing” by saying, “This product is the first American Eagle Silver Proof Coin minted using laser-engraved dies.” Not true and misleading to market the “Laser Privy” coins in this manner(first?) IMO. I have not stumbled on any published data to the contrary.
