In reply to <a href="https://www.coinnews.net/2025/07/17/2025-mint-set-now-available-includes-20-coins-from-philadelphia-and-denver/#comment-562081">Half $ Luvah</a>.

Half $ Luvah, since it appears you may have missed my reply(7/20/25) in the thread from the Coin News article dated July 18, titled: “Trump Picks Louisiana’s Paul Hollis for U.S. Mint Director” here is my reply, re-posted here for your convenience.

Half $ Luvah in the previous thread said: “Question. Since the JFKs and Native Amer. $ are NIFC, why does the Mint omit the NIFC but legal tender American Innovation $$ from the mint sets?”

Half $ Luvah, that would just drive up, an already unpopular cost further, for the Mint sets and Proof sets.

They’ve been marginally successful(?) and able to sell American Innovation(AI) items as stand alone products in rolls, bags, proof and reverse proof sets. Annual core sets, which according to the U.S. Mints own Annual Reports already lose money, and have seen continued declining sales, year over year. They would suffer an even greater loss of sales due to the increased pricing. Including the AI $1’s in the annual sets would force those sets prices to likely be increased by a minimum of $24 and $27 respectively. Customers are already opposed to $33.25 Mint Sets($5.82 face) which would become $57.25($13.82 face) for a standard clad Mint set. They feel the same about an already expensive Proof set at $40.25, which now would be $67.25 for a Proof set.

It wasn’t long ago and we were paying $63.25(4/17/20) for a Silver Proof set, that now costs an incredible $150 freaking dollars, which is up from $105(10/8/20). On 2/8/23 those same Ag Proof sets went to $130 and then to $150 on 7/9/24.

Including the AI $1’s in the annual Mint and Proof sets, although a good idea for the collector, if the price being charged stayed the same, that’s not how it would play out. The prices would go up and the product sales would tank even further into the abyss of oblivion.

We are rapidly approaching a point where it doesn’t make sense for the U.S. Mint financially to produce such a minuscule amount of sets. We are also approaching rapidly, where it no longer makes sense for the collectors to pay such an ever increasing price for what they receive, value wise. We are at a breaking point in both the business and hobby IMO.

Lastly, the cold hard truth! My guesstimate on the price increase of $24 and $27, erred on the side of the collector! If we look at face value of coins and the mark up over face value, a grim reality sets in. They would likely want/need to charge $78.91 to maintain a similar markup as what they currently charge for the Mint sets.(571% markup) They would likely want/need to charge $95.57 to maintain a similar markup as what they currently charge for the Proof sets.(1383% markup).

So my question to you Half $ and anyone else reading, is are you willing to pay $79 for a clad U.S. Mint set and another $96 for a clad Proof set? At that point we would likely need to drop the mintages to somewhere between 35K-50K maximum. Just saying…

PS I’ll say however, those new calculated prices suddenly make the current prices on silver products appear more attractive? LOL

cagcrisp,

Thank you! I have an older phone and I have a year old iPad that was $975 and for a month or longer I can’t Post or even see what to read when someone does a longer post and it says Read More! I don’t have Internet except what we get thru our Iphones and iPad. I’m using my wife’s phone to Post this. Next time I go to the big city, I’ll get a new phone and see if there’s something I can do so my iPad can be used. I hope I don’t have to buy a new iPad already. The iPad I had before this one was only 1 year old too and the puppy knocked it off the TV tray and cracked the screen. So I bought another new one and I can’t even download apps cause it’s not either a 15 or 16. So I read CN’s but I usually don’t Post plus I wasn’t caring for some of the BS that was going on here for a while. It seems fine now tho but that can change at the stroke of a keyboard.

Well, as always, Good Luck ALL!!!

JQC,

You must be luckier than I am. All I've got from pocket change this year has been a few 2024-D Lincoln Cents with light water spots. I don't collect the AWQs, but last year I did get a number of Jovita Idar Ds with the "In Cod We Trust" error. I don't know if anyone else has encountered these and I don't know if they are worth anything. Maybe Coin News can do a write up on them.

Cheers

Yes, but it's PF 70. Not many of us is going to receive one in that quality from the Mint. More like PF 68 or maybe PF69. Still nice but doesn't hit the jackpot.

Mongo like shiney yello discs. Way too much thinking into it IMO. Maybe, IF you look at:life as an accountant, see, imply it is expensive expansive, excessive pricing and dynamic because them Mint folks think they can grab more $$$ fromUS. Not me, you some see this as a winner, we,shall see a very easy pass…. JQC,

I'm just after the Lincoln Cents and the Kennedy Halves for 2025. That will close out and deep 6 two albums. Yes, the 2026 Dual Dates are in the plan too. I would expect the mint to sell collector rolls of the 2026 Lincoln Cents as they did with the 2009 4-coin Anniversary Release. I also expect them to make too many. Wait and see, wait and see......

Cheers
