From previous thread… No problem admitting , my visual assessment was skewed and I did not see what the “experts” were or are seeing.

Coin actually ID’d at bottom of explanation.

AKBob, you say: “So, what would You do? I’d like to hear back with your opinions on which way I should go with this particular coin/slab. All ideas, thots, etc., would be appreciated. TIA!” My response was to your saying: “All ideas, thots, etc”,’was what I’d have done. “I’d have sent it back “If I were you” and asked for a refund or for them to provide me the coin that should have been in that plastic holder I’d purchased.”

I should have scrolled back up my screen to see what you’d originally started your comment with before I’d gotten too far along composing. “I don’t know if everyone here is aware of the Vaultbox Releases, they put in high end coins in mystery box’s and usually there’s three coins. This release tho there is only one coin.” I’m quite familiar with Vault Box and was one of, if not the first to cover extensively on both Mint News Blog as well as here at Coin News. My bad for not doing a thorough research on the VBX” offering. As you may recall the Initial release had 3 coins. I said “usually” and was attempting to not inadvertently lose my train of thought, delete what I’d composed, have my screen randomly refresh, while scrolling up and down to see what you’d wrote or open additional web pages, possibly losing what I’d began composing. I’m working on my only form of digital communication, an IPhone, not a computer or secondary device.

Before that, you said: “There isn’t even one single mark on both the obverse and reverse.” I simply disagreed and told you what “I thought/observed, “right, wrong or indifferent”, what I actually thought. My actual thought/observations: I did not think it was flawless after looking at the pictures. To me it looked like there was/is pitting over entire coins, especially noticeable in the fields or that it appears grainy, hence I thought it looks or looked dipped, hence the AU50 Details grade. Not to mention that it looks like they’re grooves from the outer V moving across the coin towards “America”(maybe a scuff on the holder? There shouldn’t be as it was brand new slab, maybe Die polish damage(?), as well as fog/haze in the field from just below the chin in front of Liberties face, up three stars length. On the reverse I see what looks like there may have been a haze or toning over “Pluribus” and “States Of”, IMHO.”

You said: “My question to ALL here on CN’s is should I just keep the Error Label and try and sell it or should I send it back and have it corrected. The coin looks flawless to the naked eye and it looks to be a Proof coin. So, what would You do?”” And I reiterate, you said: “All ideas, thots, etc., would be appreciated. Question to ALL” If you only wanted information on picking just one of “your own two thoughts”, why’d you ask for, “All ideas,’thots, etc”?

You said: “I have no idea which is more valuable, Proof or Mint State in this grade.”’ I at least looked up the two coins(quarter and nickel) you referenced, you did not(?) or maybe you did just not look up the proof vs MS? I then gave you “my thoughts”/opinion, which you asked or solicited an “ALL” response. No disclaimer issued, excluding CaliSkier/me. Had you done so I’d have just moved on, not giving my $.05 “idea, etc”.

Then said: “What I do with My Money is My Business, PERIOD!” I never ever criticized you for taking the gamble, how you spent your money or anything of the like? This wasn’t coming from a bitter or buyers remorse take, well I lost and now I want my money back? More or less, me being a skeptic often, maybe somewhere in the process, perhaps a switcharoo occurred. I’m working on being more trusting, which isn’t easy. I watched too much TV and news over the years and am somewhat jaded. My apologies…

Also:”I’m not sure why you think it was dipped!” See above.

AND : “For one, Vaultbox would NOT put a dipped coin in this release! If they played that way, this wouldn’t be as popular as it is. “I never said Vault Box, put a dipped coin in this release, however you “bought” the coin from “THEM”, not “NGC”! Therefore the only recourse, is through VB, hence why “you called”’Vault Box” to begin with and not NGC, right? Vault Box is not a grader, which is why they sent the coin to NGC, No? Perhaps they unknowingly purchased and sent a dipped coin to NGC? Possibility? OR, “My Thought” was a possibility, with such a very obvious “mistake”, was that a NGC employee, you, ECG, others indicate are inept, may not have the best scruples, and pilfered/the quarter and substituted the V Nickel they brought to work, to swap out, when and if an or the opportunity presented itself. Oh yeah that’s right, “they care about their job, care about the safety of the coins they handle” and everyone is on the up and up, of the highest integrity and would never steal? Really???? Okay? You follow up with: “Seriously???????

Thanks for pointing out, what I’d already qualified: “Now that’s an “uneducated” guess if I ever heard of one, lol!” You’re welcome for the time I spent researching and giving you ideas on another way, you could possibly look at it, which would give you a chance at trying again on the next release, a second chance drawing if you will, or taking your refund and buying some more gold, which you’ve indicated you prefer, and have implied you’re teetering on premiums being too high to continue buying?

I appreciate the “lol’s”, but not once a simple “thank you”, for giving an outside objective, on “my take” on what “I would do, IF I Were”’actually you, faced with the same dilemma? There were and are multiple ways to look at your scenario, mine was another way to think “outside the Vault Box” at another solution. LOL No big deal, yet your response to “someone” else, whom actually put time and effort into contemplating what might have happened, how to look at it, and possible actions to take, was completely dismissed? Hmmm…. Oh well, just thought you’d perhaps, appreciate me qualifying or putting a little more context, rhyme and reason as to what or how “I thought” what “I thought”, “if I were you”, of which I’m obviously not. Maybe next time solicit, “if you think like me(AKBob), TIA, for, “giving me your thoughts and ideas”.’?????

Also why I used words, such as “might”, “usually”, mentioning “If”, and no experience. You “only” asked ECG directly, re: “Also, take a guess at the Grade”. So perhaps I shouldn’t have responded with a grade. Oh well, live and learn…. Link below for Rick and ANY AND ALL others… LOL PS There is a 75% chance of the 1890 V Cent/Nickel coin being a PF65 and a 25% chance at being a PR64. That is the grade assigned to what was being offered(4 coins total) in the Vault Box Series X. Facts…. NGC Values your physical coin received, at $350 and $550 respectively. BTW Last 4 auctions range from $264-$300 and $348-$432 respectively listed on NGC. Your welcome. Perhaps if I had the coin in hand like you and not looking at pictures on a phone, I’d have seen what you, ECG, and and Craig saw?
