I could sign on to your congressional pay legislation, Jeff. And how about a MAXIMUM wage? No corporate officer can receive more than fifty times the average compensation of the bottom quartile of employees. I bet then the hardest-working Americans would finally get a liveable wage.

P.S. – The Alabama “law” does appear pointless. But what should one expect? Miss Governor Kay doesn’t strike me as a Huntsville rocket scientist.

Saw this tidbit from ACCESS Newswire on my business news feed today, thought it warranted mention here:
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed Senate Bill 130 into law, reaffirming Gold and Silver as legal tender. The Alabama Legal Tender Act recognizes “any refined Gold or Silver bullion, specie, or coin that has been stamped, marked, or imprinted with it’s weight and purity” as legal tender in the Yellowhammer state. The law ensures that no one is obligated to accept Gold and Silver for transactions unless specified by contract or required by law. The measure, backed by Money Metals Exchange and the Sound Money Defense League, sailed through the state legislature with unanimous support, receiving no negative comments in committee or floor votes in either chamber.
The sentence “no one is obligated to accept Gold and Silver for transactions unless specified by contract or required by law.” seems strange to me. If some are not required to accept Gold or Silver, then how is it legal tender? What happened to “all debts, public and private”? Isn’t that what makes something legal tender in the first place? Is this another toothless, pointless “law” passed to pretend our politicians are doing something constructive for their generous paychecks? In my opinion, Congressional paychecks should be automatically set at the average pay for American workers (which would still be generous, I bet median pay would be lower). No more wasting time voting themselves pay raises. They want a raise, make sure their constituents get one first. Average pay goes up and then theirs can too.
