If I had the discretionary money I would buy that 1886 proof double eagle. Beautiful!! The 1907 high relief proof would be nice to have too.

Way out of my league, yet very nice to see.
I think back to the Gold Rooster Statue at the Nugget Casino in Sparks NV.
First saw it when US citizens could hold gold only as old gold, jewelry or art. The rooster was art.
I wonder if any of these might find their way to Smithsonian Institution’s National Numismatic Collection where the public can see them. Maybe some other venue?
Having visited the Old Sacramanto Railroad Museum and seeing (one of) the golden spikes on display was nice. On another visit, it was missing as some thief tried to get it, now housed in a retractable vault…
