Major D,

Yes, just another fascinating dimension of marketing as it relates to the psychology and sociology of collecting. As for the book idea. It could be a tremendous opportunity for fame, notoriety, and wealth. There are a number of well-known numismatic writers on this blog and you have access to a number of publishers through CDN. I never put my copyright stamp on anything related to this subject. So, it's all yours. You write well and you are good with numbers. If you are good with photography, then you may want to run with it. Every book starts with an outline and a © tag. Again, someone should write this book and someone probably will. It would be great if it was you.

Rich,

Someone should write a book to hi-lite some of those rarities. It is disappointing that his card gets more love than his coin. But, the card is an actual artifact of antiquity and the coin is a commemoration after the fact. That may have something to do with it. Also, Olympic commemorative coins have never done well in the past either. So, buyers are fickle. When I come up with something that everyone on the planet wants, I will let you know.

E 1, one of my favorite Modern Commemoratives is the 1997-W $5 Jackie Robinson Uncirculated Gold Coin, partly because of it's relatively low mintage at the time. The authorized mintage limit was 100,000 for the $5 Gold coins. The Proof $5 Gold final mintage = 24,072 and the Uncirculated $5 Gold final mintage = 5,174. Major D,

Maybe the mint made a huge marketing mistake by creating collector coins that celebrate and commemorate African Americans. But, I don’t think so. Maybe we need a private promoter to shed some light on these overlooked rarities. Someone that can turn that pain into prosperity. Someone who can truly take it to heart and run with it. For example, Rick Tomoskas and his book on “Proof Cameo Franklin Half Dollars.” Bill Fivaz’s “Cherry Pickers Guide.” Jeff Garret’s book “100 Greatest Modern US Coins.” Every one of these authors shared one thing in common – they wanted to shed some light on something significant that was being overlooked. Maybe you can do the same.
.
So, here is an opportunity for you Major D. Since high grade examples of US African American coins are widely available at depressed prices. Maybe you should acquire one of each in high grade. Then, take high resolution professional grade photographs of each. Next, create a statistical data sheet and a bio on each coin. Also, include biographical information that is historically pertinent to the people being commemorated. Finally, put it all together and write a book. Write your own Magnum Opus on the “100 Greatest African American Coins.” It hasn’t been done yet and maybe someone should. Maybe, an opportunity is sitting right before you and you don’t know it.
.

LOL AKBob, Ay Carramba! I really need to upgrade my old outdated phone/computer, to a new fangled modern one with a much larger screen. When I read your comment in regards to Nc vs No, I couldn’t help but LOL! Ironically, since NcCoinCollectors first post here on CoinNews I thought or my eyes had registered NoCoinCollector, which did strike me as a bit odd? As, if you’re not a coin collector, did he or she possibly get here by mistake? LOL Then I just dismissed and thought, perhaps NcCoin is a “flipper”, hoarder, speculator or investor vs collector and carried on. Then, upon now reviewing my previous faux pas, which Nc took offense to, Elly May Clampett flashed into my mind. As she had a pet raccoon and at some point, possibly a Maine Coon cat, which BTW happens to be the official state cat of Maine. Anyhow, thanks for starting my day out with a hearty bout of laughter! I’ll now be sure to either get NcCoinCollectors handle correct or shorten to NcCoin or Nc. For others out there also laughing, “this one is on me”, no charge/nc and my jock strap, aka by E1 as my Dik brah! LOL Cheers and everyone HAGreatD, especially NcCoinCollector! PS I challenge any out there to top this bit of tomfoolery!

Jeff,

I envy you that 2009 UHR. If I win the lottery, it would be the first gold coin I'd buy! Like you, gold is largely out of bounds for me. I also highly admire your Kennedy gold. I've seen photos, and they leave me drooling! You have excellent taste in coins, IMO!

I'm not a heavy participant in the conversations, but I'll jump in any time I think I have something to add, or a question to ask. Many times, I find the conversation goes over my head, as I'm nowhere near as experienced as some other folks here. I try to learn something new every day.

Tony@GA, Rick,

You guys are killing me! I never open mine either. I ALWAYS wait so I can send it in for grading because I love PCGS First Strike Labels! They are a lot more attractive plus they add value to the grade. I prefer PCGS over NGC because PCGS coins seem to garner a little more money, they are worth more than an NGC graded coin and sells faster too. There are thousands of collectors that prefer NGC or ANACS. Each to their own. Anyways, I’m having a very hard time deciding whether I will open mine or send it in for grading. I’ve already purchased a PCGS PR70 on a Pre Sale off Ebay so I don’t really need another one. It’s going to be hard not opening this one. I had three (3) 2019 S Enhanced Reverse Proofs and I never opened them. I held into them for almost 5 years before I sent them in. Guess what, I actually had one of the 100 signed COA’s by Director Ryder!! That was a surprise for me.

Well, as always, Good Luck ALL!!!

Cali, lol, you did another typo on his name above. NoCoinCollector instead of NcCoinCollector! Hey, I knew immediately that was a typo. You are NOT the kind of person that would talk/text/type something like that especially on this website. I absolutely accept your apology as well and I’m sure you’re quite mortified about it as I would have been had I done that. Another person that posts here texted me privately and asked me what I thot about it and I simply said it was an accident. The o and i are right next to each other. Fat Fingers strike AGAIN. I had forgot that you do ALL of your posting on your phone. I too use my phone and/or my iPad. I don’t have internet except what I get thru my iPhone and iPad thru AT&T. I do have two very nice laptops but can’t use them without internet. No biggie. I get be just fine.
