I bet all those thank-you for your service makes up for it though. Don’t be surprised if he offs himself. Like many veterans, he’s already waited years longer to get what is owed and earned.

Sure, he’ll get the back pay, but not with interest. If he owed irs interest accrues immediately. Years of hardship, lots of missed financial opportunities, many late fees as banks and collectors don’t care gubmint didn’t pay you, or you are good for it.

In reply to CaliSkier. America almost had a turkey over the eagle. Part of the all things not Europe. But eagle it is. Good thing too as it would make Thanksgiving awkward. Although turkey was probably the only food not served.

The first image shown: “ Republic gold 100 Francs 1894-A MS64 Prooflike NGC” immediately made me flash(image) immediately if our own country received inspiration from this design. Then is looked and saw the date, well after our coins beginnings. The fasces made me thing of our Mercury Dime. Then when I noticed the Rooster and France I made an association with France and skiing, of particular note Rossignol Skis. I was once asked if I knew what the Rooster represented or meant on the Rossignol skis. I was clueless and it did seem odd to be adorning the top of a snow ski, graphically speaking, of course. LOL Anyhow, after a brief pause; he told me, “Bravery”. Until now, I had only occasionally over the past almost 30 years; had not truly understood. After seeing the above coin and against piquing my curiosity, I stumbled on this. Hmmm…. Interesting where or how many different “paths”, coins can leed??? A bit of symbolic history. Of course when I think “Eagle” my mind goes to our MIA, Kaiser Wilhelm. “ Germany has an eagle, the United Kingdom has a lion and Spain has a bull. But why does France have a rooster? The origin of this emblem dates back to Ancient history. At that time, Romans were laughing at Gauls because of a linguistic coincidence – in Latin, the word gallus means Gaul… but also rooster! With time, the French kings adopted the rooster as a symbol of courage and bravery. During the Revolution, the rooster became the symbol of people and of the State: it was engraved on coins. Napoleon preferred the eagle, the symbol of imperial Rom, but the raptor was soon shooed away from France. Today, the French rooster can be seen in many places: on French stamps, at the entrance of the Élysée Palace… It is also on jerseys of French football, rugby and handball teams and on the shirts of Olympic athletes… And in our country, what is the national emblem” Then of course, below is the American version of “Bravery” LOL

Does anyone else feel a bit awkward not having Kaiser Wilhelm here to start things off or interact with? I know I miss his daily comments tremendously and I’d have chimed in sooner, if I was aware; he’d be, deleting his plethora of comments and exchanges, as well as discontinuing contributing to this site by offering many interesting, fascinating, informative comments, well “worded”, no matter the topic or how the thread evolved or devolved. Oh well, I’ll go with the funny thought that came to mind as devolved, flashed through my over active thoughts! ARE We Not Men! Missing Major D and Kaiser Wilhelm, hoping one or both returns and another here, “Evolves”, providing Satisfaction, cause’ right now, “I can’t get no….. no, no, no, no, hey, hey, hey”!
