Interesting. Thanks for the info. What's the likelihood that those empty boxes & COAs last even one generation with the slabbed coins? Those coins still with the original packaging will likely be worth far more than their slabbed-only counterparts in as little as 10-20 years.

I would have liked to have seen these in a clam shell. They started doing this with proofs some time ago. Packaging sure has cheapened over the years.

Because we're always so quick to criticize, we should be quick to praise, too. The reverse proof silver dollar set is truly wonderful. the coins arrived in perfect condition and even a day earlier that excepted. The reverse finish even makes the Morgan Dollar look good. The only thing that would have improved the coins was for them to have been packaged in that famous wooden box. Thank you, Mint.

I bought one set at Baltimore's Whitman show. A line to buy but not too bad. The set is perfect and pristine. Very pleased.
But also subscribed for three sets as gifts that sadly confirmed my pet peeve about Morgans. They always have blems on Liberty's cheek. One Morgan looked like our lady lost a knife fight. And such a shame since all three Peace were perfect, blem- free.
What to do? Keep the set or return? Why does the mint do this?

I believe with new coins the grading services want you to submit the original boxes, Mint receipt & CoA. They return all to you along w/your coin in one of those ugly slabs that you can't put back in the original box. Now you need another storage area for those original boxes that aren't being used for your coin.

5 for 5 here. Coins in each case not in their positions, and once replaced are somewhat loose. Willing to bet that they are moving around in your UPS box or have moved. No issues with hairs, pen marks, grease, spotting or anything. They look great. Maybe lucky here. What happened to Kaiser? His wife tired or proofreading his posts? Bring back Senza.

I kind of like the frosted field. It makes the image pop on the coin. But it does make me wonder, what was the first proof coin to incorporate "frosting" (either regular or reverse proof)? I remember most (all?) proof coins used to have only a bright, shiny finish.
