Then the smuggler plays on his phone multiple clips of U.S. government officials saying just that. Sale closed.

People learn at various rates, so I can be patient (and if you read the starting posts I thought I was. You disagree I see) until they start with the insults (even then, I keep trying, but there is a point its time to try to see if they can learn empathy the hard way) then I show them what it is like being on that end. Many adult bullies were young bullies and never did get to experience the other side. I just see what is going on here as a smaller version of what is going on out there so this was my attempt to educate on how to communicate with people who do not believe as you do. If hardcore MAGA can learn to tolerate “others” here, then there is hope for the country. Another thing is that the internet is forever (unless you remove your posts. Grrr) so I hope people in the future will see at least some here were brave enough to push back instead of ignoring them (ignoring does not make problems go away, they often make them grow in the shadows) or flee. You would not even have had to deal with me if I had started reading comments when SENZA was here. I would not have stayed. But I was here for at least a few years reading Kaiser Wilhelm’s encouraging and uplifting posts which made me feel comfortable enough to speak up. It appears his posts also got you hooked. Shame it was only for a short time until lack of respect reared it’s ugly head again. Perhaps you would have been more interested in fighting for civility and respect shown to all here.

To me, they are not the same. Do you think they are? You have thought about this in detail and that is what you concluded? Is it colored by your past anger? Where you once a bully yourself? I was not, but there were still a few people that I treated badly when I was young. 1000 people from my youth would say I was great or ok. 3-4 deserve an apology from me.
Still not sure why, but I am kind of thinking it was taking my anger out on those few meant nobody else faced it. Bullies constantly pick on the easiest target around them, even if they are supposedly a friend. No one is immune unless they are too tough of a target.

Presidents! All I can say about our past couple Presidents, is WHO(???) is really running the show, behind closed doors? I know for a fact, it’s not Wonka, Slugworth, the Oompa Loompas, or the person we refer to as the POTUS? Just not possible based on what we’ve been witnessing over the past many years IMO. Good suggestions about Kaiser Wilhelm practicing. You do beat me on computer literacy. I know nothing about modern phones. I thought old tethered phones were intrusive. When I was in my late 20s my friend shared a house for a while with a guy that must have felt like I do (or owed bill collectors). It had a pay phone out front but no phone in the house. Nobody could call him, but he could call out still. I was soooo jealous. After payphones disappeared I fantasized of getting a toll number. I might even be willing to listen to sales pitches since they are paying. Never actually looked into how practical it would be, but I always assumed one would be too expensive. I am a proud Luddite when it comes to cellphones. I just have a landline. Owning a cellphone for me would be like self torture.

I should also mention when I take info from other pages there are often links in them and pasting those in here often seem to trigger the “awaiting approval” message. I put the cursor to the immediate left of the next word after the link, retype the words from the link, then “Backspace” the new words until the actual link is replaced. Sometimes there are a ton of links in a short article, and I have no idea which if any will trigger the dreaded “awaiting approval” message. I try to always list my source so they can look it up themselves if they actually care that much.

Thanks for your presence here CaliSkier. You have been a fine addition to the community here so far. I appreciated you were one of the few to speak up a few months ago, saying you were not for partisan political talk. I thought you made it worse when you chewed me out a little while later, I am glad I was wrong. You made it better. I am still not sure I am the one that deserved the chewing out, but the end result is what mattered. Not sure specifically what triggered it or if you had the whole picture. Since you said you were not going to read any more of my posts I figured I was never going to find out. Made one response to your post and never tried to explain again (shows I saw it, assumed you wouldn’t read it). Saw the comment about adding and subtracting above but wasn’t sure if you would be willing to discuss that subject in any detail. Glad to see you are reading my posts again (for now, maybe). So I will try a bit more explaining now. I will need to hear from more voices before I will give up trying to keep both sides talking civilly here. If the people that run this site were not completely hands off, then people could be temporarily suspended from posting for playing badly with others as soon as insults start flying. Since there is no intervention, what can you do but send back what they are sending, or concede them control? When they are civil I am civil, when they are not, eventually I am not either. I have explained my reasoning in detail in multiple posts scattered over the past few months, plus those from over 3 years ago, but I figure you didn’t see them.
3+ years ago was to stop personal insults here. Personal insults were handed out like candy then. That appears to have been quite successful (but not necessarily permanently), I very rarely hear anyone personally insult anyone else out of the blue here now. The recent one was to stop politically insulting people here. An experiment still in progress. I originally felt insulting Biden or Trump was not worth worrying about, but I have since completely changed my mind. Treating each other like the enemy is killing our country. Seems others are starting to realize this. Yahoo comments sections used to be a complete cesspool, I see now they are trying to get people to remain “courteous”. I explained my reasoning in a post maybe a week or so now, and some of the ones I referred you to below. If we cannot treat each other civilly here, when we already have something in common then what hope is there for our country where each side has less and less in common with each year that passes? Major D read the mission statement (or whatever it is called) for this site while it was all going on, it said something along the lines of the objective is to make the site a welcoming place for all.
Some people just cannot get “it” until they experience “it” for themselves, whatever “it” is. I assure you I would never be the first to lob a personal insult at anyone, and once they start flying, periodically offer to stop whenever the other side is ready. You can see for yourself if you care to. Because I try to be thorough, here is where it all started, civilly, on Aug 17, 2023: “Gold Falls for 9th Session and Logs 5-Month Low”. Not quite half way down the comments, my reply to Dazed and Coinfused starting with “Just curious, Dazed and Coinfused. How long did it take you to type this one out?” and the next 5 comments immediately after it.

Still civilly. You might want to read a few more of my comments after it. Then on Aug 24, “U.S. Mint’s 2023 American Women Ornament Collection Available” my comment about 1/4 down starting with “Hi Dazed and Coinfused, A bit inaccurate again.“, and all of mine you care to read after it. Then Craig jumped in about 2/3 to 3/4 down, and you can see it wasn’t very civil anymore. It did not start with that comment, but had spread from another one recently. You would probably find my comment 4th from the bottom quite interesting (I would be interested hearing what you think about the info I shared in it). I have not looked at this article for months. Strangely, I can see a comment I had “awaiting approval” back then visibly says “awaiting approval” publicly now. I had modified it slightly and re-submitted it successfully 3-1/2 days later. It is still a little lower down. The second time I have seen that. The other was from someone else maybe a week ago. Lastly, on Aug 25 in “Gold Gets First Weekly Gain After Four Straight Weeks of Declines” read the first 10 comments, especially or at least the 10th one and you will know exactly why I was in the position for you to chew me out. Looks like the political insults/misinformation have been creeping back a bit the past week or so, but the biggest proponents have modified their intensity for the better, since you chewed me out. Perhaps the effect is starting to wear off now though. Dazed and Coinfused had a terrible one very recently. It is not like I want to be doing this, but I cannot sit by and do nothing as I watch the rhetoric get worse and worse nationwide. If a majority of the people who care enough to speak up tell me to stop, I will stop my unofficial moderation experiment here immediately. I just think it would be a big mistake. I really want to find out if the country is savable. Whether you agree with my actions or not, I hope you will at least understand them, because I am not sure you really did before and I would hate for you to think less of me over a “misunderstanding”.
