So, if one were in need if cash, like now, and they believed they had something valuable, other than spending the money they don't have and time, which is extremely precious, at the moment, who could they possibly contact to maybe sell a coin or two to keep the wolf from knocking on the door?

Christel, unless you are in a hurry and or need the cash, if I were you, IMO you should probably seek out a bit of real time professional advice, up close and personal via a LCS(local coin shop) if you have or can find a trusted one in your area? From the sounds of it, grading beforehand may be the best option in order to maximize your potential profits. Another potential hang up is going to possibly be, Capital Gains Tax? Beyond my scope of experience or knowledge. Whatever you do, be careful and I’d suggest soliciting a minimum of 2 and maybe even 3 or more different LCS or coin shows(maybe?) to get a chance to talk with an insider in person. Just be careful of any, looking to HELP YOU, by taking your, “Old”/dull gold for spot price/melt value. From your initial description, there is a better chance than not that all, including the bars, should sell for a premium(price above spot/melt value) to a LCS, private party or auction site. From reading posts on other coin sites, you may want to consider “Great Collections” when dealing with an auction house? More often than not, many point out a more favorable fee structure for the seller. Possibly reach out to the ANA(American Numismatic Association) to see about recommendations or endorsement of a LCS in your community? Although the hobby is full of great people, dealers, etc, one can never be too careful, as some out there are wolves in sheep clothing. You will and can find many “shops” willing to help lighten your load with a swift lowball, “CASH” offer, especially if they sense you are in a hurry to sell or come off as us knowledgeable about what it is you are “showing them”? Be careful and if not in a hurry for cash, use your computer and learn as much as you can about the coins which, as of now, you are considering liquidating. There is a wealth of information at your fingertips, providing you have the time, energy and patience needed to seek out what your options actually are? Good Luck in however you decide to deal with these much desired, precious metals that happen to be in a highly sought after form!

PS It is probably best to avoid any LCS, not a member or endorsed by the ANA or PNG(Professional Numismatic Guild). LCS’s or dealers that are members of both these organizations in good standing, is the way to go IMO..Much higher standards and way more for those shops to lose than gain, if not dealing with their customers on the complete,
Up and up. Again, good luck, as good luck, never hurt anybody! BTW, those gold bars could quite possibly be quite a bit more valuable than originally thought, depending on when, where or who manufactured? Bars are collectible often and they are not always, “Just Precious Metal/bullion”.

I know they are currently in the hands of the Treasury, but the legal battle for them is still ongoing, from what I've read. I'd love to know the name of the individual that bought the one '33 that can be owned by the general populous, although not many of us could afford the $19 million price tag. Do you think our gubmint is protecting this person's investment by shelving those 10 additional '33's, or perhaps melting them. Wouldn't that be antithetical to the 'we have to punish the rich' verbiage we constantly hear out of gubmint these days? We probably will never see any of those coins again, but it would've been interesting to see what the market would demand for them (and how it would affect the 1).

Hello, so I clicked on the page as it had a picture of one of the coins my parents left me when they passed. I have 2 of the gold Indian coin the date is 1911. And a bunch of other gold coins, 1924 double eagle, etc..

There's two gold bars and a bunch of silver coins as well and pennies. Morgan and Peace dollars. As well as some I have not had time to research yet. Anyone will to help me. Hi Kaiser Wilhelm,
I have been wondering if they disabled the edit function on purpose to force everyone here to slow down and make very sure you want to post what you have just typed out. I could live without the edit function. It just means I will have to accept there will occasionally be mistakes in everyone's posts, including mine. No matter how many times I re-read what I typed out, I still find some kind of small error after I post it. I re-read one 12 times and still noticed an error after I hit post. I only confirmed recently that comments I post do not show the exact layout they had pre-post. I had a "Hahaha-hahaha" in an earlier comment separated by the "-" because it ran into the next line. After I posted it, it does not need the "-" anymore because it is in the middle of the posting area, nowhere near either end. Looks a bit strange now.
Now lets see if they fix the edit function or not. I could be wrong, but I am surprised it is taking this long to fix the edit ability if it is just some kind of a malfunction. I even filled out a "contact us" form about it around a week ago now I think, shortly after you started mentioning the problem.
After me getting chewed out by CaliSkier yesterday, I was expecting the emboldened Trolls to have run wild here today, but everything looks peaceful on all the articles so far. Even if it is only a temporary reprieve that was a pleasant surprise.

CalSkier,

Don't forget about the 1933 gold double eagle! I haven't seen any depreciation in the price the current owner paid for it, around $20 million, since those addition 10 1933 gold double eagles were confiscated from their owner a few years ago. Curious?

CalSkier,

You raise an excellent question regarding the 2011 Sets (ever notice how everyone says that on tv when asked a question) and I honestly don't know or really care if the 25th Anniversary label is still offered. I say that because I seriously doubt that I'll ever submit them to either PCGS or NGC to be graded. I've always thought grading should be left to the older, classic coins of bye gone years. Why folks send in thousands (or millions) of new bullion coins for grading is still an alien concept to me. But that's just my opinion. But, if common sense still reigns, why wouldn't these grading companies offer that particular label? That's what they are sold as, The 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set, right. And like many things that now occur in this country, we have to thank the unscrupulous element of our hobby (those substituting coins in a supposedly unique set) for taking advantage of the gullible or unaware consumers for serious profits. Some things always remain the same. I take it you also have two unopened boxes, congratulations on that, because it's my belief that these unopened boxes will always be worth an X factor in value because people always value the 'hopefully best expectations' when buying things they can't see. Are you familiar with Finest Known's 'Vault Box' series? They sell many boxes of 3 graded coins and one will contain all valuable red label graded coins, like the 1995 W ASE in 70 grade. Of course only one person, and who's to say that person doesn't work for the company or is a family member, will receive that box while the rest pay a high price for 'hopefully best expectations' when opening their box. It is intriguing though.

But, if common sense still reigns, why wouldn’t these grading companies offer that particular label? That’s what they are sold as, The 25th Anniversary Silver Coin Set, right. And like many things that now occur in this country, we have to thank the unscrupulous element of our hobby (those substituting coins in a supposedly unique set) for taking advantage of the gullible or unaware consumers for serious profits. Some things always remain the same. I take it you also have two unopened boxes, congratulations on that, because it’s my belief that these unopened boxes will always be worth an X factor in value because people always value the ‘hopefully best expectations’ when buying things they can’t see. Are you familiar with Finest Known’s ‘Vault Box’ series? They sell many boxes of 3 graded coins and one will contain all valuable red label graded coins, like the 1995 W ASE in 70 grade. Of course only one person, and who’s to say that person doesn’t work for the company or is a family member, will receive that box while the rest pay a high price for ‘hopefully best expectations’ when opening their box. It is intriguing though.
