This is data from 1954, let's assume todays numbers are similar, or it looks like roughly 5000 strikes before the die is replaced. Other comments noted larger coins like a dollar get fewer strikes. But anyway, if 80 dies are used, that would be 400,000 (5000 * 80). Of the 5000 coins struck by a die, someone is making a judgement call based on, I guess the sharpness of the coin and the 'shine' if that makes any sense. It is so wonderful we have so many experts out there that make this determination. the term 'first day' makes no sense because next week they replace the old dies with new ones and the first coins from the new one should be better than the last strikes from an old die.

I know the OP asked about modern proof die life and mentioned PR70 grades, so I'll assume very recent production. I do not have any recent data from the mint, but here is some data from 1954 - I would think that technical improvements could extend die life above the data below.
Obverses only - reverse die life tended to be similar
50c 4,408/die
25c 5,020/die
10c 4,605/die
5c 5,278/die (included for completeness)
1c 6,135/die (included for completeness)
Data from the "Record of Domestic Dies for the Year Ending December 31, 1954" signed by the Assayer and the Superintendent of the US Mint

Kaiser,

Amen brother! What you said cannot be repeated enough, especially to those new to our numismatic hobby.
Buy the coin, not the so-called "special label".

Maybe they should imprint qr codes on the coins to inform of stamp date. I think the appeal of 1st or early or advance is that if the psi is wrong, or planchard installed incorrectly or wrong die used you'd have a better chance of finding an error. Oddly since you are buying a graded coin any error should have been caught. I believe most coins get stamped before release so you could get very first coin or coin stamped weeks later but shipped on first day of sale. First means winner even in an age of participation trophies. First indicates you'll probably get a deeper more detailed image as the die wears down and you may get coin mashed before new die is used. Resulting in a 69 vs a 70.

However it seems to be nonsensical. As we all know many of the coins we seek are sold out before sale via subscription, or so rare they sell out within minutes. And with the growing list of coins added less time for each release to be made. So...

Does it make more sense to buy these fdoi at a slight markup right away, or wait til metal prices drop and get them on sale. I see lot of people saying $44 for ase. $24 spot $20 premium. But, the coin shops and pawn shops around here all say around spot plus or minus a couple bucks. Nowhere near the premium mentioned. Or maybe it's best to pay the early markup to ensure you get authentic graded coin versus a counterfeit one. I am reducing my orders for peace and morgan to just 1. Usually I try to get 2. One to collect and 1 to invest. (For any coin I buy, not just morgan and peace) I'll probably get more than 1 of the limited set, but even that is iffy. I think last coin I got was the army medal.

Mad mike still pushing his lies on the tube. Still seeing spots from his new years plug. Almost 6 months later and he still pushing the buy now they will sell out before the 2nd showing this is the morgan and peace the us mint should have made Fiji coin. Except now he displays them all in a single dark cherry case.

One thing yall did miss... thanks to june teef looks like they sold 9 mo black lady liberal, liberty coins. Speaking of. Fun fact. Trump is the only living president whose family did not own slaves. Of course his grand pappy didn't flee military duty until late 1860s so made it impossible. But I wonder. If his gran pappy fled to avoid fighting, would his trump wall make him deport his kin? I know obammy didn't deport his uncle whose visa expired in early 80s wasn't. Mainly because Barry didn't know he was illegal despite being in law school and living with him. Trump's birthright policy would make no sense based on his family's refugee trek.

Maybe it is time for people that win more than $500 playing thr lottery should become politician for a year or 2. Anywho. Enjoy the heat. Keep a receipt so we know how much to charge canada for their pollution rate. We need a batman. To take on all those jokers in DC. Well that is an interesting coincidence. Batman is DC comics. And politicians are DC comics. Hmmm. Maybe we are in the matrix

Competition for Mike
APMEX is advertising prerelease Morgan and Peace, $99
or 250 for MS-70 though they also have ms70 first day 175 and ms70 first strike for 150 though I have no idea what the heck difference between any of them is. Maybe one should buy one of each!
