Allegedly there are three 2023 cent errors out there, a small "v" to the right of the VDB, a double die obverse and an obverse die break on the top of Lincoln's head. Whether these amount to anything remains to be seen.

Take the 1913 Liberty nickels. How does the mint produce only 5 coins? That's not the only one either. I've never considered them authentic.

Kaiser,

I say we should thank those wayward "rascles" at the U.S. Mint for stimulating the hobby, as we scramble to find these error 1-cent coins in circulation. But, of course, they risk getting fired for such an innovative, but illegal act... especially if their "fun at work project" is captured on security cameras - "Smile, you're on Candid Camera"! Lol.

Indeed Kaiser Wilhelm and I can’t say thank you enough for providing me an opportunity to share, learn and grow! Yes Grow! I’m not a fan of being set in one’s ways no matter how long, one may have been beating there head against a wall or smacking themselves in the head with a hammer! LOL not saying I don’t do both daily often many times, but I keep trying and always tend to think; “We are never done learning about ourselves, Life and of course precious metals and coins! I’m just glad you responded with 2 posts to my comment, as I’ll be honest(that’s how I am), my initial reaction to your first comment, stopped me dead in my tracks and I was struggling on how to respond or keep a positive exchange going. Not your fault and as I said I’m growing! Cheers to all out there, that enjoy sharing ideas on coins and “life”! I do understand fully your reaction of, “it doesn’t do much for me” completely. Kind of funny to think about actually, when it comes to viewing coins in any capacity, there is a Macro and Micro lens, as well as anything and everything between!

Your post Kaiser, sparked some thoughts about, collecting, numismatics, hoarding, accumulating and other ways people try to enjoy the hobby. My interest came from my father collecting and purchasing for my brother and I as we were growing up. He kept it all fairly hush hush and didn’t share or encourage us to take up the hobby or follow along. Assuredly he had his reasons, anything from, the ole’ “loose lips sink ships, to perhaps his lack of patience with us, maybe it was “his escape”? My personal additions to the collection my dad started for me began in 2008. My focus was solely on brand new issued coins from both the US and Royal Canadian Mint. I learned a lot during this time to present and consider myself, fairly up to speed on modern coins issued by those 2 Mints from 2008-2021. The RCM is for sure tougher to keep track of as the number of issues during the mid 2010’s was crazy! 327 different products in 2014 alone. Anyhow, on the sidelines, but watching ever so closely these past 2 years. During that time, I began trying to increase knowledge in other areas, such as Classic Commemoratives, and regular, business strike coins. This past year I was exposed to error coins and have watched so many videos, I’ve started getting versed in, different types of errors and some of the different nuances and years that are more highly sought after. I’ll stop there as I could go on and on. Basically, I had a small epiphany, that says the majority that find themselves collecting coins have a narrow view or goal in their own version of this hobby. Mine “was” just brand new coins. No that completely leaves out so, much when it comes to collecting. Seeing the $1 signs attached to some of these error coins, initially got my attention and once I took an interest,
I’ve been learning about that narrower segment of collecting: this however overlaps with Varieties, which both combined to get me to buy my first “Cherry Pickers Guide”(August release), so that I’ve got an excellent resource. This past year is also the first where I started using magnification to inspect coins,
Looking for errors. Im broke, so searching circulated coins costs me nothing but time. The production process I find fascinating and worked a couple years, out of high school, in a machine shop specializing in Punch Press work, so I have a little working knowledge on some of the processes involved at the Mint. So I’ve gone from, only new coins to only used coins. Anyhow that at is why and where I heard about the “Extra V” cent. Since I watch 2-3X per week, Shaun on YT @ Blu Ridge Silverhound, I’ve become much more knowledgeable about this area of errors and such. A ton to learn, however it’s been eye opening and look forward to continuing to increase knowledge in this field as it overlaps into so many aspects of Numismatics and collecting. Usually 1-2 coins per year standout as secondary market winners and become a major buzz in the industry. This one is special, because the Third Party Graders have given it “Attribution” status and it has sold for consistently fairly high dollar amounts, for a brand new, 2023 crappy Zinc cent! Trust me; it’s a tough pill to swallow, however that if I want to observe any detail, let alone an error, it is a must that I use magnification. Even when I was younger I’m not sure how much I could actually see. It is interesting as you say that a portion of the hobby; is looking so closely, that these things are found. However, the hunt and potential finds, is exciting, for those with an eye for things out of place. You have to be willing to look at thousands of coins though. Anyhow, pun intended, “Variety” is the spice of life!

So check this out, Vachon, Kaiser, Seth and others that this may or may not have occurred to or perhaps, not even “Privy”? Since the discovery was made in NY I think(?), getting or finding cents, that were minted in Philly, should prove challenging to say the least! They are being boarded and sorted and there are huge premiums on getting your hands on them. Up to $20 a roll for Philly! $100+ per coin! “if” you have and or find the right one! Heck, there is even a listing on eBay, with a hefty price tag of $30,000! Are you ready? The 2023 “Extra V” variety, that is able to be slabbed and attributed by the big 2 TPG’s! Currently they sell for around $100 and have appeared to have peaked at $150-$275 per coin, RAW! Graded examples, depending on grade, $350-$650, with the outlier being the $30,000 or best offer on that 2023 “Extra V” Lincoln Cent, grading MS68 RD. Anyhow good luck to all, with hopes of finding one, if you’re willing to search or try and find one. BTW the extra v occurs on the obverse, after the initials VDB, at the bottom left portion, at the base of Lincoln’s bust. I didn’t want to infringe on potential copyrights for pics I was able to find. You just need to type 2023 extra v cent into a search and you’ll see what I’m talking about, for any whom weren’t already aware.

Kaiser,

Maybe some enterprising "Robinhood" superhero could sneak into homes like Santa Claus & relieve every household in the USA of their piggy bank stash of "non-circulating" cents & turn them over to the Federal Reserve to put back into circulation - but in the good old USA, his ass would be shot multiple times by the armed piggy bank owners no doubt. So much for trying to provide a community service! Lol.

Kaiser,

Maybe some enterprising “Robinhood” superhero could sneak into homes like Santa Claus & relieve every household in the USA of their piggy bank stash of “non-circulating” cents & turn them over to the Federal Reserve to put back into circulation – but in the good old USA, his ass would be shot multiple times by the armed piggy bank owners no doubt. So much for trying to provide a community service! Lol.
