I used to purchase the medals when they were $6.95 & $39.95 and give as second birthday gift in a birthday card or stocking stuffers. Since the price increases I have refrained from purchasing them. The $6.95 ones for gifts and every so often the $39.95 ones to add to my Mint collection.

Yes Kaiser, I too picked up the space medals, some of the military ones and presidential ones for personal collection and gifts.

The Wuhan All-You-Can-Eat fried bat buffet!

And pick up a Wuhan Bat Happy Meal with rubber toy bat for the kids at the drive through window...just 10 yuan (or a silver China or panda coin)...

Major D ,

You sure are spot on. The large ones do have a nice satin-like, rich buttery gold look to them & I used to buy some of them, small & large when they were $6.95 & $39.95 respectively. I even bought some of the small ones from the Mint in the late 1970s when they were $2.95 & then years later $3.95. But, I'm done with them now.

Hi Craig,
I do not believe any medal should ever be purchased, only awarded. Just my opinion. I know that medals have been sold forever, but I have never been interested in purchasing one, no matter the subject or what material it is made of.

I have no freaking idea why anyone would be an obsessive 'Bronze' medal collector regardless if it's actually bronze or a brass composition. It has no monetary value, to me at least, and it isn't a fungible asset so why buy it at an obscene price. Some people would say I'm a nut for paying what I do for precious metal coinage from the mint, especially recently with the premiums being charged over spot pricing. If times get really hard, I can at least get the spot price of the metal, assuming they are using what they claim! What can you get for a bronze medal...$2 and change per pound at the recycling plant? I've been buying coins from the mint for decades and have never purchased any medals, regardless of how 'nice' they look.

The U.S. Mint does not release its bronze medals sales figures...ever wondered why?? The last Mint Director raised the price from $6.95 to $20 on the small ones & from $39.95 to $49.95 & now to $160 for the larger ones.
The Mint is embarrassed at the horribly low sales numbers of these vastly overpriced medals. They don't have a Mint mark, they don't have a COA, they don't have a description card, & they are not in presentation boxes.
Most coin & medal dealers offer Unc. & even cameo Proof bronze medals in the small size for about $3 or less & they make a profit on them. Former U.S. Mint Director David J. Ryder purposely killed the U.S. Mint's base metal medals program & the current U.S. Mint Director Madame Ventris C. Gibson doesn't seem to give a damn about this asinine situation!
Sad!

More US Mint Shenanigans!

When will they “ever” get things correct? So we already know they are loose with numbers? We know they are overpriced, with QC seemingly know where to be found?

How expensive are those “Bronze” medals they put out? Weren’t the prices for these, absolutely sent into orbit a few years back? So not only does the US Mint have numbers and pricing issues, they apparently have been mislabeling, misrepresenting these supposed “Bronze Medals”

“Bronze” is not a color, it is a metal alloy, consisting of specific blends or types of metals, giving it structural, environmental qualities such as durability as well as corrosion resistance. They also have different looks and COSTS!

The US Mint is selling the “People” BRASS Medals and are NOT selling what they are advertising, which they advertise these Medals as “BRONZE”. Bronze costs more, you are paying for Bronze and being given Brass.

Wonder when they’ll make the switch from gold to brass for the American Gold Eagle series? Obviously the alloy or composition of metals is irrelevant to the US Mint.

You’d think they would know a thing or 2 about metals and composition? Nope, they just know the relation of profits, in relation to not being honest, transparent with the data and information they publish or relay to the public regarding their products and their potential customers.

Many differences between Brass and Bronze and they are advertising “Bronze” and are selling Brass! Maybe this is to help with stockpiles in strategic coffers(collectors) for the war effort, down the road? Military machine, running low on brass, just confiscate the “Peoples” US Mint “Bronze” metals, they thought were and had value based on being made of “Bronze” . Nope those were disguised as Bronze, however were made from a cheaper alloy, metallurgical specialists call “Brass”!

IMO, this makes the US Mint a bunch of “Brass Monkeys”! Yes, it takes bravery for one to advertise, sell goods or services disguised as something it is not. Especially when it’s very, very cold out? It’s almost cold enough to freeze the “Balls” off a “Brass Monkey”! Brrr…. Maybe what I meant was “Donkey Monkey’s”???

Either way, another glaring example of the US Mint not having its “Ship Together”, unable nor ready to sail anywhere? Too me, it looks more like the “Wheels” are “off the bus” and they are screeching downhill into the sunset, with sparks flying!

Brass and Bronze are not interchangeable names with the same meaning. Oh yeah, that’s right, with a bit of fuzzy math, Fun with Numbers, a good dose of statistics, and “parsing a plenty” you can say or write whatever and it means what you “think” and not what is “KNOWN”!

Huh, ever think why the US Mint markets and labels these chunks of metal “Bronze” and not “Brass”??? Think about it…..? Does anyone or would anyone be buying these if they were sold as US Mint Presidential and Historical Brass Medals? Didn’t think so! However that is exactly what they are.

CHEAP ASS, Brass” Medals!!!

Now start making excuses for this pile of crap! Oh Bronze is more difficult to work with, ohhh. Ohh, Bronze will make our “dies” die quicker, ohhh. We like the color better when we take out the tin and add zinc. Does that matter, YES it all matters!

Or “Webster” is a crook for selling all those thick books with words that have defined meanings? Can’t have it both ways? Either Webster is a crook and all those words that they so eloquently defined as having specific meaning are completely interchangeable and can be used in any combination or somebody has taken words and metals out of context and are “100% wrong” for substituting words that have not only different meanings, but different ingredients, qualities and characteristics!

Am I surprised?
