Keep sending your mint coins to the grading services so you can support them financially. When you receive the coin back it will not be a better coin unless you are very lucky and got a high grade! The coins we receive from the U S Mint are exceptionally made and dont need the grading services. I have not received a problem coin in 50 years dealing with the mint, just short a COA once. I enjoy getting all the original equipment along with the coin. I believe that most collectors can look at a coin and pretty much come up with a fair grade on the item. We do have some grading expeirences of our own.The most likely reason for having a coin graded is for resale. You can see plenty of these graded coins on Ebay at exuberant prices. The raw coins are more pleasing to look at. They were not made with plastic boxes around them!

Problem is, nearly all 250,000 will grade 69 or 70. Original Morgan’s and Peace dollars are extremely rare in the commensurate grades, hence their premium price.

No I don’t think they would dare. Imagine what that would do to their business, which relies so much on accuracy, reliability, honesty, good faith and trust. Once word began getting around with proof of that, their business would wither and die on the vine, so to speak.

Meczak is hard to watch or listen to. I think it’s his accent and overpriced coins.

Exactly! They went from having a pretty decent box, a jewel box, to that thing that’s all cardboard/paper now. I was pretty upset over that, especially considering prices went up at the same time.

It helps them get a better idea of how many coins they need to strike in advance. That way they don’t strike way too many or not enough.

The Peace dollars will continue to be high relief, just like the 1921 & 2021. The only reason 1922-1935 were not high relief is because striking the High relief required much higher die pressure, and with the quality of steel available in the 20’s and 30’s being what it was, they were constantly breaking dies. Nowadays, they use harder steel dies that can take the increased pressure required to strike the high relief Peace dollars, so we can expect them to be struck in high relief like the 2021 was.

I’m not aware of any plans to create a high relief Morgan dollar. I expect them to keep striking them with the standard relief they’ve always been struck in.
