Does the US Mint stop at 13K production for the Air Force Medal (no mintage limit)? Do they also stop at 50K for the Silver Liberty Medal (75K mintage limit)? Seems like the secondary market takes advantage of these initial ‘sell outs’. I am seeing $100 on Ebay for the Air Force Medal already. But if the US Mint is capable of minting more any time, why not just wait and pay the $65? Same story for the Liberty Medal, bids on Ebay also at around $100. Why not just wait until the US Mint makes and offers those extra 25K they should be minting?
I would be happy if the US Mint did not make unlimited Armed Forces 1 oz medals, that will make them somewhat unique if there are only 13K around. Just do not be surprised when there are another batch for sale in the next few months.
