Wait I just remembered – because the mint charged us 3 times the actual cost of the shiny stuff and we can never make that up.

As a seasoned trader, I can tell you that the individual stocks in those indices did not perform nearly as well as those indices numbers and it was difficult to impossible for investors to match those numbers in their 401k’s etc. It is however, another argument in favor of Gold.

There has always been a separation of reality between major indices and the underlying assets but over the past 14 years the money printing and manipulation increased the gap.

Rather than cherry picking individual stocks for comparisons (since some are all-time winners and some are all-time losers), consider the composite stock indices for this 21 year comparative analysis versus Gold over the period from the December, 2000 to December, 2021:
DJIA: 2000 = 10,000, 2021 = 35,500, gain = 3.6 times
S&P500: 2000 = 1,145, 2021 = 4,700, gain = 4.1 times
NASDAQ: 2000 = 2,500, 2021 = 15,200, gain = 6.1 times
Gold: 2000 = $270, 2021 = $1,800, gain = 6.7 times
Footnote: At today’s close – DJIA = 31,827; S&P500 = 3,936; NASDAQ = 11,713; and Gold = $1,710
