Where did you live? The only Franklin found, not by me but by my younger brother, was in the ground. I believe it was a 1956. I didn’t know there were Franklin Half dollars until the late ’70s. All I remember were Walking Liberty half dollars and those were only available from dealers. We’d find a few 40% silver Kennedy halves in rolls from our local bank.

I remember when gas was .35 cents a gallon and they nearly doubled it in no time – also around the same time bicentennial coins were freshly minted into wax paper and it was common to get 3 or 4 silver Franklin’s in change from the grocery store or gas station

I know, I remember, wheaties pennies, buffalo nickels, mercury dimes and the occasional standing liberty quarter with no date and liberty but a silhouette. Ah, and less than a quarter for a gallon of gas.

Thank you most kindly. Unfortunately for me, I’m reduced to the copper coins. My collection begins with the young head Coronet Head of 1836 and continues to the end of the large cents. It’s sad the flying eagle was only a two year issue.
