Precious metals finished ahead Wednesday, with gains ranging from 0.8% for gold to 5.4% for palladium. Advances in silver, platinum and palladium were their second in a row.
Gold for February delivery rose $13.50 to settle at $1,802.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"Gold prices are figuring out its year-end trading range somewhere around $1800 and that should remain intact as trading volumes decrease," MarketWatch quoted Edward Moya, senior market analyst at Oanda Corp.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,785.80 to a high of $1,806.30. They dipped 0.3% on Tuesday and they shed 0.6% on Monday.
Silver for March delivery added 29 cents, or 1.3%, to settle at $22.819 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $22.44 and $22.86. They climbed 1.1% on Tuesday and they fell 1.1% on Monday.

January platinum rose $40.60, or 4.4%, to $968.40 an ounce, ranging from $924.70 to $970.70.
- Palladium for March delivery tacked on $96.20 to $1,889.30 an ounce, trading between $1,777 and $1,903.
