Released Nov. 8 for $28, the four-coin set was easily the Mint’s best weekly seller with a debuting start of 38,056, representing 76.1% of the possible 50,000.

This year is the first where the Mint has offered all the year’s Innovation dollars within a single reverse proof set. Previous reverse proof dollars launched individually. The 2020-dated Innovation dollars celebrate innovation in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, and South Carolina. Those reverse proofs logged starting sales of 24,737; 26,897; 27,243 and 27,339. (They are still available from the Mint, as are the 2019-dated coins, for $11.50 apiece.)

Looks like interest in the Morgan and Peace dollars is falling. Sad to see. 🙁

Rich

Indeed, the sales figures for the 2021 Morgan and Peace Dollars continue to show reductions, which at this point I assume are returns to the mint for refunds since all these coins have been delivered by now. The Mint’s return policy is – “If for any reason within 7 days of receiving your product you are dissatisfied with your purchase, you can return the entire product for refund. Shipping charges will not be refunded for all returns.” Thus, the time window for returns should be closing next week, and with it, the sales reductions for these coins should cease. Just… Read more »

Rich & Antonio, I may be way off the mark here, but I don’t think those Morgan and Peace Dollar returns are from individual customers; rather, they are coming from re-sellers who are sending back coins that weren’t up to snuff as far as having a sufficiently high grade, which is to say likely MS70, goes. Additionally, I’ve never seen any indication that the big dealers, buying clubs or various other flippers are shy about returning coins whenever they feel like it, meaning they have no problem with completely ignoring the alleged one week limit. Correspondingly, the Mint is happy… Read more »

The mint should sprinkle some crypto on its coins. It’s the future.

Domenic Vaiasicca

And here i sit….morgan and peace dollar “orders” dropping…..STILL waiting for my CC and O dollars shipped on 10/24-10/25. Received my innovation reverse set in about 5 days from ship date. Ive lost all faith in the mint right now to ever find and get me those 2 coins. I personally think its a case of sticky fingers or they just plain printed up the order and never shipped it. Very disheartening.

Antonio

That’s sad to hear. Did you receive the other Morgans you ordered?

Domenic Vaiasicca

Yup

Kaiser Wilhelm

Domenic,

I know this likely won’t be of any consolation to you at all, but let me assure you that you are far from being the only Mint customer in this very unfortunate position.

Unleash Hell.PNG
TheKings714

Domenic, I too am still waiting on my CC an O with the exact same ship date. The top-notch customer service reps at the mint have all said “just wait longer.” SMH.

Reverse proofs, P Morgan and Peace dollars have all arrived. Pretty sure that it is game over for me on this one.

Kaiser Wilhelm

TheKings714,

I’m not sure whether you mean that your package has actually shipped or the Mint’s Memphis Distribution Center has sent a notice to the USPS that this item is ready to be picked up. If it’s the latter then this is likely still a Mint problem; if it’s the former then your beef might be with the USPS.

KW,

Sorry for the confusion.

For me, the Mint website lists the items as shipped on the 25th of October and provided a USPS tracking number. When researching that tracking number with the USPS website, it states that “Pre-Shipment Info Sent to USPS, USPS Awaiting Item.” When speaking to the Mint CS reps, they think that item is in transit. I’m pretty sure the label was printed and never affixed to a package and therefor my only recourse is a refund.

Oh well.

Kaiser Wilhelm

TheKings714,

No need to be sorry about anything; if there’s been any misunderstanding it’s been on my part for not keeping track of the events as reported, or perhaps, for trying to keep up with too many events at once. In any case, no worries.

Frankly, TK714, I can’t understand how the Mint CS Reps can claim your package is in transit if they can’t produce a notice of pickup of the item by the USPS. I hope you get your refund soon so you can put all of those inexplicable and unnecessary nonsense behind you.

Domenic Vaiasicca

My exact same story….,sigh

Steve J.

Domenic, TheKings714,

I’m also in the same situation. Pre-shipment info sent to USPS on 10/25. After the painstaking effort to order, I believe my order will never ship. The Mint passes the problem onto the USPS. I think all the Mint did was print out the label. I’m probably S.O.L! Soon, I’ll have to request a refund. Strange pattern here with these coins.

Steve J.

Follow up, just got this B.S. email from the Mint concerning my order:

We are aware your package is potentially showing no movement on the carrier website and the inability to track your package. We are working with our carriers to gain tracking visibility and get your order shipped. Please be patient as we work through this issue.

Domenic Vaiasicca

I just got the email too!!! There may still be hope for us!

TheKings714

I too got it! I called the mint earlier this morning before the email arrived and the rep that I spoke with stated that all orders with a ship date from the Oct. 23-25 time frame have issues. She didn’t even have to look at my order # to know what items (Privy Mark Morgans) I was discussing. She said they are hoping to have them out in the next two weeks and that there are major issues at the distribution centers. The rep also stated that every call that she had yesterday and today have been regarding the Privy… Read more »

I certainly hope all of you receive these privy marked Morgan dollars. The mintage numbers are falling, so you should have a better chance of receiving the coins you ordered. Fingers crossed they arrive before the Christmas mail season.

Steve J.

TheKings714 & Domenic,

Here’s an interesting article from coin world. Maybe our orders are hung up in the Mints investigation of bot orders.

Matthew Holben, the U.S. Mint’s chief sales and marketing officer said 12,900 of the orders for Morgan and Peace dollars have been held up for delivery until the Mint determines if the orders are legitimate or are fraudulent attempts.

https://coinworld.com/news/us-coins/morgan-and-peace-dollars-will-be-back-in-2022

Domenic Vaiasicca

Interesting……. Thats alot of coins. Its just so irksome since all i ordered was 1 of each coin…..and i see on facebook groups etc…people showing a bunch for trade or for sale of each one……not to offend….But i reallllly dis- like bulk purchasers right now….seems like they are trying to steal the hobby away.

Steve J.

Domenic, I really want my coins, but the 30 day window for filing a claim will close soon. Unfortunately, I have to give up and file my CNR claim. I don’t want to lose the money I paid. I’ll have to fax my completed form in. From the Mint site: Certificate of Non-Receipt If your order did not arrive, or arrived with missing products, please fill out and return the attached Certificate of Non-Receipt (CNR) within 30 calendar days after the order shipment date. When we receive your CNR, we will review your claim and provide resolution within six weeks.… Read more »

Domenic Vaiasicca

Did yours show movement in usps to delivered? I dont see how they can hold us to the 30 day when, like mine, it says mint shipped it but usps only says pre shipment info sent, awaiting item from mint….especially if you have the email from mint acknowledging theres a problem with the ship dates.

Steve J.

Domenic,

No movement on my order. Identical to your’s. I have no faith in the Mint. I hate to lose $344.95 (4 coins + 4.95 shipping). They say please be patient. We have been! You may be right with your assumption. I’ll keep waiting and hope our orders actually begin shipping.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Steve J, That email you received from the Mint has to be one of the most self-contradictory BS emails I have ever encountered. 1) Either your package is showing movement or it isn’t. There is no such thing as “potentially showing no movement”; that’s just gobbledygook doubletalk. 2) “Working with their carriers to gain tracking visibility” is another example of certified BS. There would already be “tracking visibility” if the package had shipped, and as long as it hasn’t shipped there’s no way in hades they will get any. 3) “Gaining tracking visibility” isn’t going to do anything about getting… Read more »

Kaiser,

I totally agree and I would hope they are doing (b), but I am skeptical.

domenic

I personally feel we are the victims of insider sticky fingers {either at the mint or usps} or just inept processing where the order was printed and not affixed to box. id surely HOPE its not a case of boxes falling off some conveyor but i put nothing past USPS or the mint. The article that was mentioned in coinworld does bring up a whole other scenario. The mystery thickens…..

Steve J.

I just got this email from the Mint:

We apologize for the continued delay you are experiencing with receiving your item(s). In order to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, we will process a replacement order for you by Friday, 11/26/2021. You will receive a shipping confirmation email with new tracking information once your replacement order has shipped. Thank you for your patience as we sought resolution to this issue.

BRRRRR

I received the same email, as mine was “ lost” somewhere between the mint and the USPS…I’m going to “assume” it’s now going to show up. My cc bill arrived today and was wondering if I should pay it or not, as the charge for these 3 coins was posted on the bill. With the Mint’s 30 day window also near, wasn’t sure what to do. I’m going to take a chance and not file a claim. Hope I don’t lose out. I’ve got to assume since they are emailing this late, acknowledging things have not been sent out that… Read more »

Steve J.

BRRRRR,

Sorry to read that you are in the same situation as some of us here. I was going to file a claim but as Domenic & you have noted, we have these emails acknowledging a problem. I had already paid my cc bill. Hopefully they process replacement orders for us by Friday. And then the waiting begins, again!

Steve J.

I really hope they don’t send us returned coins!

Does anyone know if the 2021 Peace Silver Dollar is officially a “High Relief” coin? The Mint’s description of the coin does not specify it as having a high relief. The only reference I have seen of the 2021 Peace Dollar being high relief is on the NGC certified/graded encapsulated labels which state “High Relief.” However, the corresponding PCGS labels do not state High Relief.

Rich,

I came across a bit of info on the 2021 Peace Dollar and as best as I can determine while that coin is not a High Relief of the magnitude of the original 1921 Morgan Dollar some of its features do rise up above the usual strike level.

Thanks for the additional information, Sir Kaiser. I had to do a double take of the image you attached of the American Liberty 2019 High Relief Silver Medal (definitely High Relief). Perhaps some of the 2021 Peace Dollar’s features rise up above the usual strike level just enough for NGC to classify it as “High Relief,” but not quite enough for PCGS of the US Mint to do so.

Rich,

I’m just speculating here, but might this not be akin to one of those situations where the “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, except that in this case the “relief elevation is in the estimation of the grader”.

so, $11.50 x 4 is a bit more than $28, so the mint is actually giving people a discount versus prior years. something must be wrong, that’s not their style…

Kaiser Wilhelm

c_q,

Good catch, and certainly, it is a modicum of price relief for sure. That being said, and hopefully not being all that picky, I will miss the exceptionally informative and extremely attractive packaging that the individually packaged Reverse Proof Innovation Dollars came in. However, as we are all old enough to have learned by now, you can’t really have everything, as in “eating your cake and having it too.”

I liked the “extremely attractive packaging” from the $11.50 past year sets. But, the price is more affordable for all in the new format pkg.

Seth,

That’s a fact. However – and there’s almost always one of these as a codicil – the numbers by which the Mint jacked up the price of the Silver Proof Sets and the Bronze Medals, among many other such prodigious price increases, easily more than make up for any savings on the Innovation Dollars packaging.

There are, apparently, almost always consequences…

Uncle Sams Nephew

Just a sidebar item to discuss here… In Baltimore, I traded two 2021 PEACE silver dollars for one 2021-CC-Morgan and one 2021-O-Morgan, even up. I didn’t see too many of the 2021 silver dollars at the bourse, and true to form, there are always grumpy old fartz scowling at the entire Morgan/Peace program, equally matched by delighted buyers lucky enough to purchase the full 6-set. The (un&)popularity of these 2021 silver dollars speaks loudly across the hobby blogs and at the Baltimore convention floor, along with (un&)charitable comments about former Dir. Ryder. I just like them and I was fortunate… Read more »

Uncle Sams Nephew, Just as my own sidebar, my darling wife has been known to call me a grumpy old fart (admittedly with good reason) on occasion, enough so that I have almost come to claim that as a badge of honor, so I can relate to those similarly described individuals scowling at the whole Morgan/Peace anniversary series as my distant brethren. Regardless of their opinion, it’s like with anything else in the hobby where some folks sing the praises of a coin(s) to the heavens while others either have no interest in same or even go so far as… Read more »

Yep, it sounds like you made a good “even steven, easy peasy” trade on the Peace for Morgan dollars. Thanks for sharing the “pulse” on the floor from the Whitman Expo | Baltimore Winter Expo in Charm City.

Those of you who are still waiting for the CC and O privy 2021 Morgan coins can rest assured that you are only thus far SAVED from disappointment and angst, as these coins upon arrival are sure to only DISAPPOINT further – based on the lack of quality, the lack of a 70 score due to various “spots” and unusual “dings”, maybe a strike-through or two, the ever so rare “coin burn” mark across the check of Miss Liberty or the neck of the reverse eagle (we’ve seen both) or alas, the infamous “ring ding”, sure to disappoint even the… Read more »

Big T, I have to thank you for all this valuable information regarding the 2021 edition of the Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars aka commemorative versions. You may have read my comment in which I stated that I had cancelled my pre-orders of the aforementioned coins in all of their iterations. It’s now clear to me that not only did I save myself a good chunk of money but I also avoided a lot of disappointment and regret. While I am truly sorry that all too many of our fellow collectors had to face those issues upon receipt of their… Read more »
