Senza,
Don't you think after over 200 years of slavery in America, that the majority of freed slaves were native born Americans and had as much right to stay here as anyone? There was a group called the American Colonization Society that did send freed slaves and free born Blacks who wanted to leave to Liberia from 1822-1861. Lincoln was a supporter of that program, so I guess he didn't make a mistake at all. I think few men on earth at that time would have done as good of a job as he did. Empathy is the key to a better world for all. Based on his words and actions, he had a deep understanding. Few today seem to. I hope you are not suggesting he should have forced people to Africa against their will. I will certainly think less of you if that is what you were thinking.

Do not forget the owner of said facility is probably politically connected to the state of Texas or friends with management of the mint. Did any of you ever notice they never mention who owns the companies we give these government contracts to? In my state, a few years ago they changed the contractor that handles the lottery equipment. They really screwed it up (could not use pencil anymore, had to use black pen. If you had a stray mark outside of any box, it would not read your bet ticket at all ((my common sense says any marks outside of a box is irrelevant, I should even be able to write a note in the margins and not affect the bet. I am pretty sure that it worked that way for the previous 17 year contractor)), clerks started turning away lottery customers (((happened to me multiple times, and my bet is simple. 1 ticket with 2 bets and 1 auto lotto for a total cost of $3))) because it took too long to run a ticket. Unless it was an auto pick, they had to enter each one manually, even though I diligently filled out my bet ticket same as I had done for years). I imagine the lottery lost millions in sales while the new contractor learned as they went. It is running smoothly now, but it was chaos for many months. No article I read (in fact, I do not think I ever saw an article about it, I heard it from the clerks) ever mentioned who owned the company that took over from the long term contractor, but I bet it was someone politically connected. They were definitely not hired because they were better than the old one. I assume they were not cheaper either, otherwise there would have been a press release touting how much money they are saving us compared to the previous contractor.

I made a post that still indicates "waiting approval" (for days???). Not sure if anyone else can actually see it yet?
But I linked to the Mint's site with the models ...

I’m kinda likin’ the artist rendering of the coins, even if rather 2D / “flat”.

https://www.usmint.gov/news/image-library/commemoratives#2022nlb

https://www.usmint.gov/news/image-library/commemoratives#2022purpleheart

May make another dent in the bank acct next year?

I got the Baseball HoF silver $ and 50c when they came out. I think I just dropped a ton o'bux on a new car then and couldnt swing the gold. But I eventually got that one aftermarket in OGP a while back. Got it graded a while ago, and it came back Proof 70!
I really like those curved designs, very clever.

I picked up the Silver Dollar coin. Didn't get any colorized ones. Nice coin. Wish I got the Baseball Silver Dollar. Considering the Negro League Silver Dollar. Wonder why the NFL didn't get a Silver Dollar for their 100th anniversary last year?

Well stated Kaiser. Too many "blue blood" Americans believe that America was always a united and an English white country, forgetting that black slaves, native Americans, Spanish, Dutch and French nationals lived in the Colonies, Mexico and Canada - also can not forget Russians up in Alaska and California. So America and Western Hemisphere has always been a melting pot and not something that "invaded" USA and this Hemisphere.

Enough of the politics for me in this thread and ... Looking forward to see what the Negro League coins look like and will consider one since I missed the 2014 baseball coin.

Did pick up the regular Basketball Silver Dollar. Didn't get the colorized one.
