U.S. Mint 2021 Holiday Ornaments Include Quarters

108

With the holidays right around the corner, gift-giving is the topic of the day as the United States Mint released two ornaments for sale to the public. They include the United States Mint Ornament with a festive wreath-like design and the Mighty Minters™ Ornament with a more kid-friendly theme titled "Winter is Sweet."

2021 Mighty Minters Ornament

At the center of each ornament is an uncirculated quarter bearing the final design from the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. Struck at the U.S. Mint facility in Philadelphia, the quarters’ obverse portrait of George Washington appears prominently. The backs of the ornaments also share an engraving of the United States Mint Seal along with "Made in the U.S.A." and "©2021 U.S. Mint." Both are crafted in solid brass and imitation rhodium.

The holiday ornament series is now in its third straight year following a multi-year hiatus. The 2019 ornaments hold uncirculated Kennedy half dollars while last year’s 2020 ornaments contain uncirculated Jefferson nickels. The Mint describes them all as uniquely designed and hand-crafted completely in the U.S.A.

This year’s Winter is Sweet-themed 2021 Mighty Minters Ornament is designed more with kids in mind. Its overall appearance is playful with the Mint’s kid-oriented mascots — Layla the peahen and Eli the fox, four red-striped candy canes, several surrounding snowflakes, and an attached silver-colored cord.

This year’s United States Mint Ornament has a festive wreath-like design with a holly motif along with a deer on each side. The intricate and reflective holly design includes berries shaded in red and a stylized red ring that encircles the quarter. It has an attached red-colored cord.

Ordering

Both the 2021 United States Mint Ornament and the 2021 Mighty Minters Ornament ship in presentation boxes suitable for gift-giving. The United States Mint ornament is offered for $29.95 while the Mighty Minters ornament is sold for $27.95. They have no stated mintage or product limits, but each has a household order limit of 15 for the first 24 hours of sale.

The pair, as well as prior-year issues, are available for ordering via the Mint’s online store page dedicated to Holiday Ornaments.

Last year they could not sell a nickle for $27.95 so this year they are going to try and sell a quarter for $27.95

Senza,

I love decorating my Christmas tree (are we allowed to say that?), but those ornaments are just butt ugly. I wouldn’t give you $5 for them.

Has anyone seen movement in their Morgan or Peace Dollars? My orders have been stuck in the ‘Processing’ stage for 4 days and counting.

JWP

I just got off the phone with customer service at the mint. I was told that my CC and O order was in pending status waiting for a tracking number and then will go to a shipping status. She said that these orders should be delivered and 1 to 2 weeks from today. I plan to take this info with a 5 poun.d bag of salt and believe in Santa. HO HO HO

Seth Riesling

Larry –

I got an e-mail that my CC privy mark Morgan silver dollars were processed today with a shipment label at the Mint’s fulfilment warehouse in Memphis. Wonder how long it will take till the box actually ships??

NumisdudeTX

Charlie

My CC shipped from Irving Texas today. It’s in Cobbell Texas now. What facility does the mint have in Irving Texas?

Charlie

I’m sorry. Coppell Texas.

Mammoth

Charlie, your CC Morgan should be in ‘Amarillo By Morning.’

Rich

… and by “Tucumcari Tonight!”

Charlie

You were close. My CC was delivered to my house in KY at noon Saturday. And it’s a beauty.

Seth Riesling

Charlie –

I noticed that too! Irving, Texas it said on the USPS tracking, instead of Memphis. Wonder why? I live in Austin, Texas & got my CC coin today in the USPS mail. Amazing fast after shipment!

NumisdudeTX

Charlie

Did you notice the return address was Memphis on the shipping label?

Antonio

Mine for the first privy mark Morgans is from Memphis.

JWP

If you sign up for USPS informed delivery you can check exactly where the package is and what the current status is. I’ve been using fit or over a couple years and really like it. Try it if you are not signed up for it.

Seth Riesling

JWP –

It’s definitely a good thing. I’ve been using that free service offered by USPS for like 6 months now & I really like it. Let’s you plan your day a little better, knowing exactly which letters & which packages are coming that day.

NumisdudeTX

Senza –

You can decorate my Hanukkah bush anytime with these priceless baubles! Lol.

NumisdudeTX

same here as usual. processing until they get off their butts.

SENZA

They told me my Morgans shipped today but of course the shipper says only a label has been created

Paul Bergeron

When the “fulfillment center” part of the US Mint operation completes its work and moves the packaged and addressed order to the shipper pickup place, and notifies the shipper to pick up the package, then the “fulfillment center” folks consider it to be SHIPPED because they have completed everything they can. It is up to the shipper to come by and pick up the packages after that.

SENZA

I honestly think China could do a better job – that garbage cardboard housing my Morgans is despicable but your maid in china is working wonders for me………

I hope so I’m a big fan of Christmas also my CC has been billed for every coin I ordered as of last night so the waiting begins again…..

Senza,

You are the Man! As is always the case on Christmas morning, which package to open first?

SENZA

It hasn’t been America for a long time aka censorship by social media – I did take the cap off the capsule to make sure it wasn’t a reflection unfortunately it was the coin – I’ll ponder over the weekend keeping it or sending it back.

Kaiser,

Thank God for that as I do have a Masters degree in Horticulture from U of MD.

No, I still haven’t seen any movement in my 5 coin orders, although they are all now in ‘Processing.’ I think it’s obvious that they will all be delivered in one package. Sure hope it doesn’t go ‘black’ somewhere in transit. Where can I buy some of that Mintamucil? Lol.

FViia

It’s the USA, you can say what you want.

Larry T

FVila,

I was just being facetious. Are you sure it’s still the USA? I’m not so sure.

By the way, my S Morgan has officially been shipped. I guess that means for the next 8-10 days I’ll be waiting for the infamous shipping label to be created. They had the Advance Release MS70 Morgans and Peace Dollar set on the Coin Vault last night for only $2800! Are there any takers here?

Kennygee

Larry T, keep the faith, The good news is that my tracking states that my 3 Morgan D’s and 3 Morgan S’s will arrive Tuesday the 26th. The bad news is that they are being sent USPS. One can only pray.

Larry T

Kennygee,

I guess I’m fairly lucky to have a reliable individual delivering my mail. She hasn’t failed me yet. You can track the package and have it held at your local PO for you to pick up if you have concerns about your carrier. I may do that with these coins, if and when they start to actually ‘ship!’

Kennygee

Larry T,
I received my 3 Morgan O’s and 3 Morgan S’s today. A day early by the USPS. I put them under the glass and just as I thought, the three S coins are perfect and the three D coins have a few light scratches and small nicks. No MS 70 on the d”. I hope everyone has better luck with the D coins. I guess there is a reason the proofs are made in San Francisco.

Kennygee

I meant 3 S Morgan dollars.

Kennygee

and 3 D Morgan dollars.

Rich

Very interesting observation, Kennygee. Your hypothesis seems to be that the S mint Morgan strikes will be better than the D mint strikes. Can the same be said about the P mint strikes versus the S mint? Inquiring minds want to know…

Larry T

Rich,

The Philadelphia Mint and San Francisco Mint are putting out exemplary specimens of Morgan and Peace Dollars (Philly Mint.) The Denver mint is the weak link in the chain.

Larry T

Kennygee, I DVR the CoinVault show (for this year at least) and one of the Abel boys stated the Morgan D is the coin that’s hardest to get in MS70. They just aren’t experienced with pressing silver dollars. Makes one wonder why they didn’t send some folks experienced with that operation from either the San Francisco or Philadelphia Mints out to edify them.I guess no one thinks outside the box anymore. Are the small scratches and nicks on the coin or the plastic capsule? Just curious. My Morgan O’s are coming tomorrow (Thursday) and my Morgan S’s and Peace Dollars will… Read more »

Rich

Larry T, good information to know about the D mint Morgans versus the S and P mint Morgans (and Peace). BTW, all 5 versions of the Morgan and the Peace dollars I ordered have shipped via USPS. Whether it’s shipped with USPS or UPS may depend on the particular mailing address (state/city) for that particular coin; or there is no rhyme or reason to the shipper used.

Larry T

Kaiser, That one has me baffled as well. I reflected on this earlier this year when the ‘Advance Release’ pedigree label came out. To me, it seems our favorite coin hawkers are selling the plastic holder with its ‘rare’ label, and oh by the way, you get a coin with it. Mike ‘you can only buy this coin holder from me’ Mezack will sell a specific ASE in one of his ‘exclusive to me’ holders and then after his extensive presentation of that coin is finished, start selling the same coin in a different holder. The kicker is he tells… Read more »

Rob S

I also have issues with a premium placed on the “Advanced Release” TEXT placed on the cert’d coins. These guys were lucky (and rich) enough to be a few authorized distributors. Thats all it means!

And HSN-Mike selling those Morgans/Peace for $3600 … while even the Coin Vault has the same collection for $800 LESS (still quite high).
I havent seen anyone selling single Morgan / Peace coins yet (I didnt get the CC or O), other than over-$ MikeM. I saw a few on the PCGS forum selling “blocks” of coins, but wont break them up.

Rich

Rob S., you can get the CC privy Morgan for $299 and the O privy Morgan for $199, both ungraded US Mint OGP/COA with free shipping, from a very reputable major online dealer in Florida. If you want the graded NGC or PCGS First Day of Issue MS-70, you can get the CC privy Morgan for $699 and the O privy Morgan for $499 from reliable online dealer in Texas. Check it out!

Rob S

I’ll look into it, thx!
(Would that be “MCM”? Had to do some digging to find they were in Fla.)

It looked like it, seems reputable, pre-order made. I have a new source now. I think my other trusted source – APMEX wouldnt put them on their site unless they had them in stock.
Yeah, I paid $$$, but I’ll have the full set. No more whining.

Rich

Yes, Rob, that would be MCM. From what I’ve seen, I think that’s the best pricing you will find for the O privy ($199) and the CC privy ($299) for ungraded US Mint OGP/COA. BTW, one reason I think the CC Morgan is the only higher priced standout of the lot of six 2021 Morgan/Peace dollars is the legendary history associated with the Morgan Silver Dollar and the Carson City Mint, the famous Comstock Lode, and the GSA Carson City Morgan Dollar Hoard. As you know, Carson City Morgan Dollars are generally quite scarce, typically having the lowest mintages compared… Read more »

Thx again. I was more interested in the CC. In fact, I was trying so desperately to order that when they came out, I totally disregarded the Os I had “in the bag” … and lost out on both.
Now I’ll have an example of each.

Glad to learn from the collectors here, as well. 🙂

Antonio

Just received mine. They look nice. I won’t know their grade until I send them to be graded. I do have one of those GSA CC dollars. It looks quite nice. Tonight I’ll compare the coins and the 1921 I have.

Rich

Sounds good, Antonio. I also received my CC Morgans yesterday and they do look most fine indeed. And if the Mint’s 2021 Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars coin program is only a one time program and is not continued on an annual basis, then this 2021 set of six beauties will be ever the more precious.

Rob S

I hope its 1 and done. Makes it more special to me, but who knows.
I also hope they dont do these uber-limited runs of Eagles and other coins. That “jump in at noon, sweat it out, outta stock in a few minutes” bizness … I’ve had enuff of that. Sure I’m not alone in that.

Larry T

Kaiser,

It must be a strategy that works for the coin shows. I DVR a couple of the shows, so I can fast forward when the bloviation becomes irksome, and they have been using that strategy for several years. All these hawkers preface their shows with ‘we have the smartest audience in the coin hobby, right here’ and that’s all you need to do to sell basically junk to Americans! As W.C.Fields once said “If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull.”

Seth Riesling

Put a 2-cent coin in one of these mementos & I’ll buy a few!! Lol.

Happy Hanukkah!! Lol.

c_q – You read my mind on that “imitation rhodium” in the description!! Lmao. Only in America (USA)! Can I put these on my Hanukkah bush??!! I think “imitation rhodium” is not kosher!!! This is silly kitch they are wasting time & money on. The last time they offered a full range of stuff like this back in the 1990s, they almost wound up stuck with like 10 different products that were not selling, if not for having their first sale of items at like almost 50% off & I still didn’t purchase any of them. These items will wind… Read more »

Senza, that’s the designer’s (Adolph Weinman) initial’s on the Type II ASE obverse.
The ‘S’ mint mark is on the RH side of the Eagle, on the reverse.

SENZA

I know but look at the rim there can you see the Die Chatter – I would have settled for an error coin but this is “shitty workmanship” probabnly going to send it back. At least we know why all the dealers and graders have perfect coins – because they gave the crap to us.

My tracking says my Morgan CC will be here on or before Monday and it’s coming from Dallas

10-22-2021_055.jpg
Larry T

Senza,

I noticed that rim area, but was wondering if it was an imperfection in the plastic capsule and not the coin. If it’s the coin, then I would send it back. Quality control is dead at the Mint, but don’t worry folks, Joe will correct that issue too! His girl Doone will probably fire the person that let that one slip by.

SENZA

Yeah I carefully removed the the plastic cap to make sure it wasn’t reflection from a scratched capsule – I also attempted to check tracking on the other coins = see image below.

I asked myself “is this karma because I hate on the US Mint so much” or “does the US Mint just suck even more now” and….I think the US Mint just sucks more now and your grading system is spot-on. I hope were not collecting the wrong coins

10-24-2021_050.jpg
Larry T

Kaiser,

As I’ve stated earlier, the Mint should have the graders right there inspecting coins as they come out of the presses. They could get all of the highest minted coins and we would get our coins quicker. Plus we could save the world from Climate Change by reducing all the Carbon expelled due to transit of these coins to grading facilities, back again to the Mint (for those less than a 69 grade), and finally out to us! Who amongst us wouldn’t accept slightly less desirable coins in order to save the world? C’mon man!

Larry, Don’t forget – 10% for The Big Guy!

Larry T

Kaiser, After analyzing your supply chain outline, I’ve come to the conclusion that it would be detrimental to the financial health of the USPS if they installed the Grading Companies at the Mint. If only half of those ‘carrier’ designations apply to the USPS, reducing revenue that much over the course of a year would bankrupt them. Even with all that Carrier business, the USPS still loses billions per year. We will just have to endure the trials and tribulations of Climate Change after all. Oh well.. By the way Kaiser, have you received any of your Morgans/Peace Dollars? One… Read more »

I don’t do Facebook or any other coin discussion websites except this one and a little Australian site, so I’m not really across “coin buyers clubs” and other cabals. Anyway, I was looking for something else yesterday and the following website was a top google result. Browsing around, I discovered it was a coin flippers site. Whilst annoying, it actually gave some interesting insights into coin/market values, and how flippers already have sales lined up in advance before they buy. https://milesperday.com/2021/10/an-update-on-the-mint-morgan-and-peace-coins-as-well-as-the-coin-market/ Also this thread, advising members to cancel their orders with a status of “back order”, as the market had… Read more »

Daniel, that is indeed most interesting and shines some light on the puzzle.

gman1964

Received my shipping email for the “CC” yesterday as well. Also starting out in Dallas, TX. Strange.

Famous first line “Your recent order has shipped!”

Kennygee

gman, Thursday at 8:00 PM the mint shipped my 3 Morgan S dollars. Today at 9:00 AM the shipped my 3 Morgan D dollars. The difference between those two order numbers is 47,700 orders. It looks like the mint processed 47,700 orders in 13 hours. Hope this helpful to all those anxious collectors out there.

harryg

Yes, that is helpful. The mint has had a “pending” transaction regarding my order of the S and D’s at my bank since Tuesday but I haven’t got any notifications of status from the mint yet.

Kennygee

harryg,
They sent me the shipped emails at the times I have stated. My order numbers are at about USM09922000 and USM09969700. They seem to be sending them out in the order they were received. Should not be long now. Keep the faith.

gman1964

At 2:04pm today I received the email that the “O” had shipped. So the “CC” and the “O” on on their way, nothing yet on the “D” or “S”.

harryg

Please define “soon”

Antonio

Man! I feel like the longer it takes, the lower the grade will be. MS65 v MS70. Ha! MS70, who am I kidding?

Mammoth

Yesterday my sister received notification of her ‘D’ Morgans being shipped, and today I received notice my ‘S’ Morgans are getting shipped as well.

I will have CC’s and D’s to trade for O’s – the one issue that locked me out on ordering day.

For those of you able to initially get 10 each on release day and the other releases, what is the plan for the extra 14 coins? Are you going for 5 complete sets?

FViia

1st 20 Morgans are here. Only looked at 1/2 of them, not a pro but they look 70 to me. Packed in box nicely too. Good job Mint!

Daniel

It’s an interesting one. I think the secondary market for these is about to crash to the floor

domenic

Morgans are going for $130 now on ebay…..waaaay down from a month ago

Rich

FViia, I think the most any of us could get by ordering directly from the Mint is 3 complete sets, since the last 4 delayed releases had a household order limit of 3.(assuming one is only relying on a single account for ordering from the Mint).

FViia

Some of us got 10 each of the privy, so if going for 5 sets, there are 5 each of the privy that can be sold to purchase the 4 other coins in each additional set.

Rich

Got it, you can purchase the other 8 coins (2 S morgans, 2 D morgans, 2 P morgans, and 2 peaces) needed to make 5 sets with the extra 10 privy morgans you have. “I see,” said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw.

Antonio

OMG! I can make holiday ornaments using coins? Who would’ve thought?
