The United States Mint recently released its redesigned 2021-W Uncirculated American Silver Eagle which features a refreshed obverse and completely new reverse. It didn’t sell out within minutes like other recent American Silver Eagle products but it has been unavailable for many days now.
Released Sept. 9 for $67, U.S. Mint stats show the individual coin (product code 21EGN) at 174,032 for 99.5% of the allotted 175,000. In addition, the 40-coin bulk option (product code 21EGN040) reached 315 units for 12,600. Combined, the Mint has sold 186,632 of the coins.
Elsewhere, the 2021-W Proof American Palladium Eagle (released Sept. 2 for $3,350) didn’t score large gains through another seven days of sales, rising just 98. That brings its eleven-day starting total to 3,915 for 32.6% of the possible 12,000.
Of note, palladium’s price has sunk by several hundred dollars since the Palladium Eagle’s release. Today, the Mint reduced the coin’s price by $300 to $3,050.

In its latest report, the U.S. Mint published sales data for 306 numismatic products. Thirty-two of them outperformed their prior weekly gains compared to 84 previously. Not counting the new products so as to compare apples to apples, 3 products increased by more than 1,000 against 2 previously.
In addition, 19 products saw their sales reduced compared to 12 previously. Recently released rolls and bags of 2021 New York Innovation dollars saw the biggest declines. Their reductions ranged from 415 to 973 units. Each of the Morgan and Peace dollar products also declined. Their reductions were much more modest, ranging from 5 to 35.

The price reduction is also welcome news to anyone who was on the fence about acquiring the ’19 Pd. They’ve been listed as selling a handful a week or so for quite a while.
It looks like the rim is damaged. Most noticeably at around 12 o’clock
$300 reduction. OUCH. I got 1 when they 1st came out. But who knew how long they’d be around (for a while obviously, and historically)? And that the price would drop so much. gah
I saw the rim jaggedness. If you’re thinking of grading, that could drop it enough, certainly out of 70, maybe even 69 that it is that much of a “blue book” value drop.
I have a 2020W ASE proof that graded 67. To my eye I can NOT find what dropped it to that, even with the hi-res pix I got (from PCGS).

It’s an interesting change in where a numismatic value is derived from. I might be wrong, but it seems like numismatic value used to come from excellent condition, circulated or uncirculated coins. These had a face value cost initially, which meant the barrier to coin collecting was extremely low/non-existent. Nowadays numismatic versions are specially minted, proof coins, which arrive in plastic packaging with no intention of seeing the light of day. These of course come with phenomenal cost, which has meant a young child has no way of entering the “game”, or stumbling across a coin which has any appreciating… Read more »

I’ll 2nd the generational theory. My younger relatives showed no interest in coins, but were heavy into Pokémon cards, but not sports cards. They keep their higher valued ones protected. Now, they’re into NFTs. I’m holding out hope I can get a few into coins eventually to leave mine to.

So much for your opinion that the Mint would adhere to their limit of 175,000 for the 2021 W Unc. SAEs! I see they have already sold 16,632 over that ‘red line in the sand’ amount! How many more are they going to mint? Probably thousands.
To me, it looks like US Mint stuck to 175,000 for the 2021 W Unc SAE (reported 174,032) but remember, the Bulk 40 coins have a separate product number and don’t count towards the 175,000 limit. I get a total of 186,632 so far for the 2021 W Unc ASE. What is more disconcerting is how they sold an additional 13,291 of the 2021 W Type 2 proof ASE! The product limit was 300,000. Yes, it did come up as available (opened up for re-order, as you put it). I hurriedly purchased one and thought it very odd that it said BACKORDER when I look at the status. They sold it in error but apparently will strike and ship it. It confirmed and on backorder when I look at my account. I also saw it briefly for sale an additional time after I purchased it. I have a type 2 W proof and a W uncirculated both on backorder. It is certainly very strange!

I bought yet another of them this morning. The status of it is “Processing” and the one from the other day has oddly changed from “backorder” to “processing”. I suppose that they are about to ship since it changed from “backorder”. The USPS usually offers things for sale in the mornings. I just know when to be looking to get my second chances. Are those 2021 W Unc ASEs sold to the Bulk Purchasers different in any way from the ones we purchase? Do they have a different mint mark on them or are they minted with a different finish? If the answer is no, then they are the same as the ones we buy! All this is just ‘smoke and mirrors’ BS! I’m glad I’ve received the coins, just got my second box today, but I simply don’t trust any of their accounting numbers.
Ahhh the days of looking for pocket change dates and mints…..long gone. The US mint has made collecting coin much less a hobby and more a race to the finish trying to get sought after coinage. Ive collected since 1975….adding on to a collection started by my father in the 1950s. I’m pretty sure someone in my area was spending ‘low-value’ obsolete coins a few years back – because for a while I kept finding wheat pennies, pre-war nickels and even a couple silver roosevelt dimes in change. I figured there’s no way they were really circulating all these years (they were not that worn out), someone reintroduced them either for fun or maybe they found their parents/grandparents stash of loose coins and spent them without knowing. nothing super-valuable (though silver dimes are at least worth silver content) but still interesting.
There is no mintage limit for this coin. There is only a product limit of 175.000, which means the Mint can sell only 175,000 coins using this particular packaging. If the Mint so chooses, it can produce and sell another 3,000,000, putting them in cereal boxes and toothpaste cartons.

It’s 12:06 Am central. Mike Mezzo has the 2 coin reverse proof set from last Monday on HSN graded for $1320. So yes some people got their coin sets. And it seems quite a few.
And it gets better. They are graded ANACS PR70 FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. ANACS is in Colorado.

How does he get the rev. proof ASE and ship them to Colorado on the same day they are released. Seems impossible. All of the 2021 rev. proof should be marked FDOI since all were sold on the first day

My contact at the Mint told me as of 6 p.m. 09-25-2021, ” All coins for this set had arrived at the Mint” and are in the process called “shipping”
I appreciate that there are COVID challenges this year, but JEEEZUS this year has been an absolute shocker.
I’ve still got 4 orders as BACK ORDER and 2 orders as PROCESSING.
Will I get them? I don’t know. But I completed all of the requirements at my end to establish a legal contract of sale. So it’s pretty rough for the Mint to have discretion to terminate that sale when I haven’t done anything wrong.
The Coin Vault ALSO has graded PR70 and PR69 2 coin reverse proof eagle sets NGC FDOI $999.98 and $599.98 shown on Monday nights show by Andy and Tyler Abel. Still processing? Doesn’t appear so if you were Really Lucky.
My reverse proofs will NOT be graded PF69 or PF70 and I will never realize $599.98 or $999.98 for them. It’s the nature of the beast.
Confessions of a Flipper – I have on occasion purchased more than 1 of the same item with the intention of selling one for more than I purchased it to offset the expense of collecting. It was totally a toss of the coin! Is there hope for me?
I purchased 2 of the uncirculated proofs, no subscription. The status has been SHIPPED since the 16th. Tracking shows the Post Office is still waiting for them. I’m concerned I won’t get them. Anyone else still waiting? And what status are you in?
SHIPPED status means the package is available for pickup by shipper.
It can take 5 days for the shipper to pick it up from US Mint (in my experience).
Then it can take 6 days for shipper=USPS to deliver it (in my experience) unless you pay for expedited shipping.
Thanks for the info. I wish the US Mint would relay that info to avoid customer worry and confusion. I guess they aren’t concerned.
I was about to post the very same concern about my 2021 W ASE’s and see I am not the only one. This is my first purchase from the mint and I am learning quickly. Most dictionaries define “shipped” as actually on its way, in the mail, being transported, etc. Silly me. Apparently the U.S. mint has a different definition for “shipped”. They sent me the good news Friday the 17th that my order was officially “shipped” and promptly raided my bank account. I agree harryg, I will not be purchasing from the US mint again. I had a wild ride fighting with their website for multiple products this year. Then the long stressful wait wondering if I’ll receive them. I can find something else to collect that’s much more straight forward.
I appreciate all your responses as they put things in perspective and are insightful. Update – today, 8 days later, I see they are actually in transit and are in Memphis. Expected delivery Tuesday 9/28.

I am not all sure whether I will ever receive my UNC ASEs. On 9/17, my package was accepted at the MEMPHIS TN DISTRIBUTION CENTER ANNEX. Three days later on 9/20, it arrived back at the exact same location (MEMPHIS TN DISTRIBUTION CENTER ANNEX). (That was my first head scratcher?). In USPS tracking, I always get 3 entries for Memphis TN Distribution Center Annex.
Then it gets routed to Nashville TN, usually Hyattsville MD, Dulles VA, then local.
This is a Plandemic issue and you should start a trace on the package if enough time has gone by otherwise a month from now you will still have the same status and have to file the trace anyway _ I actually had to quit selling on ebay over this problem because I could not fulfill my promise of the fastest shipper on ebay anymore because the Post Office screwed me good.
Absolutely correct – my ebay ads said “Nobody ships faster – Nobody” until the aforementioned. The plot to privatize the Post Office = remember the GoodFellas restaurant partnership?
I thought it was a No-Brainer to skip this one at $67 for an Uncirculated – that’s like $50 just for the packaging?

Update. I thought I would just assure some of you that are exasperated and in doubt as I was that I finally received my order of the 2021W UNC after 12 days from officially being “shipped”. They are beautiful and will make nice additions to my collection. Thanks for all the advice given here. It was helpful and reassuring that I was not the only one frustrated with the dysfunction from beginning to end. Crossing my fingers that all my other orders arrive in the months ahead.
I received my email notice that my order has shipped on 9/16 & that the USPS was awaiting item. Finally, yesterday 9/27 my shipment had been picked up and is enroute. Hooray!!! The bad news is that starting Oct. 1, the Postmaster General’s cost savings directive to slow down first class mail deliveries goes into effect.
Finally received my order on 9/30!!
I received my UNC ASE’s today:) Kaiser and others were right in advising me not to hit the proverbial panic button yet. Post office delivered them and the carton showed no signs of being ‘manhandled’ or misrouted. I don’t know why it took the long circuitous path that it did, but just happy to receive them in the end. I also just got the tracking information for my Reverse Proof ASE today. – Hopefully it will reach the USPS system this week.
