Anticipated by many, once delayed, and likely not available for long, the United States Mint’s 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set goes on sale today beginning at Noon ET.
Officially named the "2021 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition," the collectible is is expected to be one of the most popular U.S. Mint products released this year because it contains a West Point Mint-struck 2021-W American Silver Eagle with the original or classic design (Type 1) and a San Francisco Mint-struck 2021-S American Silver Eagle with the new design (Type 2).
Sweetening the pot, the pair are in a brilliant reverse proof finish which showcases polished, mirror-like design elements that attractively contrast against frosted backgrounds. Further, the set’s mintage/product limit is capped at 125,000. This instantly makes both coins key issues in the entire American Silver Eagle series.
Initially, the two-coin set was scheduled for a release on Aug. 24. A few days before the 24th, however, the Mint pushed the release back just shy of three weeks to land on a less-typical release day of Monday (today).
Those interested in the set should be proactive. Recommendations include making sure your account with the U.S. Mint is up-to-date with a valid credit card, and logging in several minutes before its launch to be prepared. Anyone who has attempted to purchase a popular Mint release can attest that both patience and frustration will be part of the equation. The Mint has taken steps to alleviate past issues, but demand for this product is expected to still strain the Mint’s website. In some good news, orders are limited to one set per household for the first 24 hours of sales. This restriction will help more people get one.
American Silver Eagle Designs
The classic 2021-W Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle contains the original designs (Type 1) as seen on American Eagle program coins since their debut in 1986. This includes Adolph A. Weinman’s "Walking Liberty" design as first used on the 1916-1947 half-dollar obverses and John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield design used on original Silver Eagle reverses.
Weinman’s Liberty design is also showcased on the obverse of the 2021-S Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle. However, the design was refreshed using modern technology and historical Mint assets to more closely reflect Weinman’s original intent. It also carries Weinman’s unique artist mark.
The redesigned reverse offers an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest. The new reverse design, created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, will appear on all American Silver Eagles going forward.
Redesigned American Silver Eagles also feature enhanced security features, including a reeded edge variation.

On release at Noon ET, the 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set will be available from the Mint’s online store for American Eagle coins. Pricing for the two-coin set is listed as $175.
The pair of coins ship encapsulated and packaged together in a single black presentation case. An outer sleeve displays both reverse designs. A Certificate of Authenticity is also included.

November 4, 2021, just bought a set from the U.S. Mint website. Have my confirmation email. It was so quick. Their availability is sporadic, but some are still available if you catch it on the website.
Received my set in the mail on November 12. They look nice.
I got a set in my basket at noon then I got booted off the site when I attempted to checkout. At about 1:15 p.m. I went back onto the site, just to see what was happening, I didn’t expect my coin to still be in my basket, but to my surprise there it was just waiting to check out. It took about 15 minutes before the check-out went through, but it finally happened! Now I have a receipt for the coin set. Surprised and happy! It was not a smooth transaction, but it was successful.
Got two by accident purchased one didn’t show as confirmed so I did it again all by phone got confirmation that I have purchased two about a hour later
Maybe you will get them but if it’s the same address it is doubtful. Keep us posted if you get them both. Curious minds want to know.

On 9/13 I successfully logged onto the Mint web site after experiencing a browser check and at 12:00 noon I immediately placed my coin set into the bag. Then, all hell broke loose! 1. I proceeded to checkout as a registered customer. However, the credit card information stored was that of one I used over three years ago. I received an email yesterday from the Patriotic Mint where I could pre-order this set graded RP70 by ANACS with a wooden box for $1294.95. Amazing.

Repeating what many said. I was logged on at high noon. The item was in my bag, then proceeded to get server errors, gateway errors, repeated demands to verify that I was human, screen automatically updating and emptying my bag.
Totally frustrating. As the clock passed 1:00, I decided to try one last time and was successful.
I don’t understand why the Mint can’t improve the hardware & bandwidth to handle peak capacity volume and an order processing backend to handle high volume transactions like Amazon does.

Last year’s v75 silver dollar event started after having a account, I logged in on the v75 and had a friend at work go online and went through guest, so I did guest as well. 3 computers trying to order and my login account ended with nothing but the guest portal orders worked for both of us and ended up with 2 v75 silver dollars received, So I used guest portal Monday on 2coin set and had same issues but got one like last year. Mine are still “Processing” also, but I believe that just means they haven’t shipped yet. Shipping is very, very slow from the US Mint these days. Very slow.

I was just looking at this tiny 42″ Browning safe asking price $2140.00 and 40 weeks for delivery – this is the new world where the haves want to be paid in advance for a product they might get for you some time in the not very near future. That’s exactly how it works. My CC showed the charge as ‘pending’, it disappears after a few days, and reappears as a ‘charged’ item only when it has shipped. I still haven’t ascertained whether Senza’s order has been canceled or simply hasn’t shipped yet. I’ll be happy once my order has shipped!
I was just looking in my desk drawer I have US Mint receipts stacked from May 24th (the first 2021 Morgan) and the Mint currently owes me about a dozen coins – hoping all of these are delivered in October as promised by the Mint.
Early on, the US Mint said that they would START shipping the Morgan 2021’s in October. No statement on when they expected to complete shipments. There are a lot of coins to ship, and COVID restrictions have slowed things down. I think that at some point in selling the later coins, the US Mint started to say that shipping of Morgan’s and Peace would START in “October or November”.
Feebay Flipper Bargain ?
Here is another possible solution to the huge influx of customers for very limited US Mint offerings. Everyone who orders for Example: Limited Edition Silver Set 50,000 mintage and 1 Per household. Each order is provided their Unique Order # Then all these orders are subject to a random “lottery” where selections to Fill ALL 50,000 Coins is performed up to the said total of 50,000. That’s close to eliminating most “shenanigans” by Dealers, Coin CLUB purchasers, etc. and closer to “equity” and hopefully reduce anxiety and bellyaching. Algorithms to do this should be fairly easy to handle this issue.
The biggest gripe I had was after putting a coin(s) in my cart they would take the coin out – that has not happened to me since the Morgan outrage began so I’m somewhat OK with the current less-than-purrfect system – also admitting I have the slowest computer in the world and still manage to get coins now – not before. Also, if you read many of the comments from disappointed collector’s they say things like “I tried to buy this coin the day after it went on sale and couldn’t get one” – well we all know who’s fault… Read more »
So wouldn’t all authorized dealers and flippers get all their friends and employees to enter the “lottery” (dozens or hundreds per?), with the result that fewer coins get to real coin collectors after the lottery? I prefer a “solution” where every coin is a presale for at least a few days, and the US Mint strikes all that are ordered. Authorized dealers and flippers would probably go away, since all collectors that wanted a coin would get it. And the bellyaching would go away because all collectors that wanted a coin would get it.
I don’t think so because those still playing the “game” for profit are still put through more difficulty in that their efforts without further knowledge or assurance of gaining a “prize” that second “level” random selection is a bridge too far them
I just spoke to the mint. My order for the reverse proof set is still processing and they have no idea when it will ship. Advised to call back next week. Something is wrong. Are they waiting for the rejected orders to come back from the dealers? Anyone else experiencing this problem
I received my shipped notification via email Monday nite but usps hasn’t received package fr the Mint yet.
The usps did say last month they were planning to slow mail down (is that even a business model MBA s r being taught these days?) In October and after raising prices, maybe USPS starting plan early. Have no idea why taking Mint so long, lackvof workers??

After a million complaints the Mint finally stopped using the “smartpost” where Fedex sits on it for 5 days then delivers it overnight to your hometown then the post office sits on in for 5 more days; at least in my area maybe not everywhere – I was paying for overnight just to get in 3 or 4 days and got tired of that .
That was just horrible. When I would see the ‘Smartpost’ in the ship notice I felt down and ‘briefly’ wished we still had the pony express.

I think the outrage has reached some bigger ears and the ship US Mint is in choppy waters.
I spoke to the mint rep this PM and she told me that the order is still pending or processing whatever term they choose to use that day. The mint stated that the order will be shipped within 10 business days of purchase, 9/13/21 so Monday is the date. Hopefully i will get a shipping confirmation date. I am still concerned that they are waiting for returns to ship out to other customers

If it helps (caveat presumes Mint is reporting sales accurately) this weeks Mint sales report indicated they still had over 700 sets unsold. So at this point if your order says In Processing I doubt you would b getting a returned set.
The mint representative states that the order is processing with no firm date on when it will ship. The uncirculated set is coming out on the 28th and I have an enrollment for 2 sets. Most likely, I will get the uncirculated set before the Rev Proof ASE

My reverse proof set arrived at my home Sept 16th. No subscription. I did choose expedited shipping with adult signature. Maybe that helped? I hope you get yours soon.

This RP eagle set is now listed as shipped. My uncirculated type 2 eagles arrive today. All I am waiting for are the Peace and Morgans. I may be done for this year but what a year it has been.
my order still says processing, not having a good feeling about this. especially after getting screwed with the uncirculated coins last week. they took my money confirmed the order and three days later cancelled my order. i had been enrolled and they did this, so i couldn’t even attempt to get them with the 3 household limit, thinking i had them already

My US Mint account has an error associated with my “order history” every purchase I have made since 2015 shows as “processing” and I can’t access any individual order- ever via “order history”. This is a result of me closing my US Mint account prior to 2015 out of outrage when they removed a coin from my shopping cart way back then. I have noticed on a few occasions since I ordered the RP set that the Order History page was having a variety of issues. I think they may still be working on their IT but kinda wondering about their IT testing before rolling pages out to production….but I’m not walking in their shoes. Hopefully it will clear up soon, definitely sounds like temp error.
Thanks helps to know most of us are having a similar experience – I used to pay for overnight shipping but don’t throw the extra $17 out the window anymore. I guess in a shortage situation – ordering overnight might make for preferential shipping treatment but the World may never know the inner workings of the US Mint like The Capitol Police = see news clip below from 2011 and note there have been several instances since 2001 and these are just the ones who got caught.
For those of you who had your order canceled I noticed Frank White of PA has 4 sets he claims to have bought directly from the US Mint and available on Feebay for a 100% mark-up.
EBay has many sets of the ASE reverse proof for $325- $350 per set. Make sure they have it in hand prior to ordering . I always use PayPal to protect my payment

Is the Mint Director an appointed position? The current Director is a knucklehead. Just look at the packaging for a $3500 coin, cardboard.. Remember in the past, 25 years ago, the sets the Mint issued came in beautiful velvet packaging. The Mint used to care about the little things. Shipped notification came today Sunday 9-26 at 2:21. Order received at 12:39 and confirmed at 5:06 on 9-13. Looks like they are still on the way. Keep your chins up people. Hope this gives everyone peace and hope.
My status: Order received at 12:24 and confirmed at 4:22. Shipped on 9/22 and tracking shows it will arrive tomorrow 9/27.
My order is still processing after 10 business days. I called the mint this morning and they have no information for me. They claim that the order is ok and that there are no issues with the cc. I am sure that my enrollment for the uncirculated set tomorrow will arrive before the reverse proof

believe it or not, i was in jamaica on my anniversary trip. thankfully wifi at sandals was great and i was through the process by 11:30am central time. it took that long to get a confirmation email. since this hadnt happened to me before i didn’t know what to make of it. i tried aagain three hours later and they were still there as being available. i felt good when i got the message about one per household, which is what i wanted. it made me believe i was good to go. thanks for the support, i appreciate it.

I received my shipping notification two days ago (9/28). For a awhile, I was a bit concerned the Mint might cancel my order.

My set arrived 10/4. I had to look closely for damage. The coins were not ‘seated’, they were loose in the presentation box. There may be some extra dings on the capsules but that’s okay. They are nice looking coins. I hope everyone gets their sets soon & in great shape.
im in the same situation you’re in. i also send my coins to NGC for grading. first release designation ends on oct13th. no way in hell i get them before that date at this point. i contacted them and they wont move the date as of today(10-5), and im sure there are more people like you and i just waiting for USPS update on shipping
I received my Reverse Proof ASE set on this past Saturday. Small bummer: there is a small milk spot on the bottom part of the sun on my Type 1 eagle. I remember these being a problem with some ASE issues in the past (my 2006 Reverse Proof ASE developed some bad milk spotting many years ago- alas, it was actually certified as a 70 by PCGS before this happened). Is anybody else still waiting for their ASE Reverse Proof Set to arrive in the mail?
Last Wednesday I received an email saying the coins had shipped and were due to arrive Tuesday Oct. 5. Here it is now Thursday Oct. 7 and clicking on the Tracking # provides, “In Transit, Arriving Late. Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility“
A month later, they’re still available from the Mint. Purchased a set today.
Those crappy new holders for the coins don’t fair well in transit.
