2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set Launch

530

Anticipated by many, once delayed, and likely not available for long, the United States Mint’s 2021 Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle Two-Coin Set goes on sale today beginning at Noon ET.

U.S. Mint images of their 2021 S&W Reverse Proof American Silver Eagles

Officially named the "2021 American Eagle One Ounce Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition," the collectible is is expected to be one of the most popular U.S. Mint products released this year because it contains a West Point Mint-struck 2021-W American Silver Eagle with the original or classic design (Type 1) and a San Francisco Mint-struck 2021-S American Silver Eagle with the new design (Type 2).

Sweetening the pot, the pair are in a brilliant reverse proof finish which showcases polished, mirror-like design elements that attractively contrast against frosted backgrounds. Further, the set’s mintage/product limit is capped at 125,000. This instantly makes both coins key issues in the entire American Silver Eagle series.

Initially, the two-coin set was scheduled for a release on Aug. 24. A few days before the 24th, however, the Mint pushed the release back just shy of three weeks to land on a less-typical release day of Monday (today).

Those interested in the set should be proactive. Recommendations include making sure your account with the U.S. Mint is up-to-date with a valid credit card, and logging in several minutes before its launch to be prepared. Anyone who has attempted to purchase a popular Mint release can attest that both patience and frustration will be part of the equation. The Mint has taken steps to alleviate past issues, but demand for this product is expected to still strain the Mint’s website. In some good news, orders are limited to one set per household for the first 24 hours of sales. This restriction will help more people get one.

American Silver Eagle Designs

The classic 2021-W Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle contains the original designs (Type 1) as seen on American Eagle program coins since their debut in 1986. This includes Adolph A. Weinman’s "Walking Liberty" design as first used on the 1916-1947 half-dollar obverses and John Mercanti’s heraldic eagle with shield design used on original Silver Eagle reverses.

Weinman’s Liberty design is also showcased on the obverse of the 2021-S Reverse Proof American Silver Eagle. However, the design was refreshed using modern technology and historical Mint assets to more closely reflect Weinman’s original intent. It also carries Weinman’s unique artist mark.

The redesigned reverse offers an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest. The new reverse design, created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso, will appear on all American Silver Eagles going forward.

Redesigned American Silver Eagles also feature enhanced security features, including a reeded edge variation.

Ladies and Gentleman, start your engines!

If this race lasts longer than 10 minutes, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle, and while I am rather fond of bananas, I’m not too keen on swinging from branch to branch at treetop height.

Brilliant !!!! Run Forrest Run!!!! You forgot to tell them you are “HUMAN” !!!! OMG !!!!

Larry T

Kaiser;

That’s as long as I expect it to take before the dreaded ‘Remind Me’ status appears. Since the Mint can now handle a little over 13,000 orders per minute, unless the increased traffic actually disrupts this order flow, I’m looking at a bomb with 10 minutes remaining on the timer. At least I still have 4 hours to try and figure a way to diffuse it. I have to say I was feeling much more opportunistic about this issue before last Thursday’s release. At least when its over it will be over!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Larry,

You have said it all. You’ve laid out the particulars of the setup, described the most likely progression of events, and predicted the almost inevitable outcome.

There you are in your heavy-duty explosive ordnance disposal gear, fully engaged in your mind prep, wondering what moves, if any, will ultimately prove feasible to employ in disarming the Mint’s latest coin sale detonation.

And finally, you find yourself standing there asking yourself the same question we are all asking ourselves at this very moment as each of us gazes into the mirror. “Do you feel lucky today?”

2doljp.jpg
Larrt T

Kaiser,

Yep, that sizes it up just about right, ‘Do you feel lucky today?’ Good luck with your endeavor today, as well as all on this thread! In less than an hour, we’ll know who’s still standing!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Larry,

Thanks for the kind wishes…they worked! Got mine at 12:41 P.M after going round Robin Hood’s barn a few dozen times, jumping over the moon with the cow, and contesting the netherworld with a few feisty Morlocks. But in the end, success, and frankly, I find it almost impossible to believe after encountering more cloudflares than I’ve ever seen on Jupiter. Hope you scored big also, my friend!

Larry T

Kaiser, I was able to secure my set at about the same time as you! I went for a 30 mile bike ride this morning and yet this 45 minute ordeal to secure 1 freaking set of coins has me totally frazzled and worn out! I was kicked off the website instantly and had to order as a Guest. I figured better to pay an additional $4.95 in shipping than forfeit the opportunity to purchase the set. Glad you were successful with this ordeal as well! p.s. I’m glad I was wrong about how long it would take to sell… Read more »

Doomsday Monday!

gman1964

Just received the expected email from Pinehur$t offering to buy sets for $400/ea.

Kaiser Wilhelm

gman1964, I have NEVER seen the profiteering pirates of Pinehur$t offer such a generous bounty for ANYTHING before; this is completely unprecedented! I can only assume they will turn around and put these on the market for at a minimum of double that price, meaning at the very least $800, and that’s just in the raw state. Who knows what a Set graded Proof 70 will bring! What it also means is that we are in for a heck of a contest for these coins. If Pinehur$t has its black heart so set on this Set (you saw what I… Read more »

It was nice of Robbie to show up today and accuse me of being a robot.
oh the pain, the pain!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Daniel,

Robby is a after all a robot so of course he does robot things.

Victor

Good quick few hundred bucks right there. Long term deal is better I think.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Victor,

Advance Purchasers, TV Con Artists, Professional Flippers and Buyers Clubs – profiteering re-sellers all – will eventually be the death of coin collecting. Very sad.

Victor

Younger generations don’t need these coins. They rather have digital everything. And when US belly’s up nobody would care for these premium coins either. They would worth same as the bullion. Flippers and resellers are my list concern.

Larry T

Victor,

You say the younger generations only want ‘digital everything’, I wonder how that would change if our electric grid was attacked (EMP) or severely damaged and no one could access anything. Our country is way too complacent and never considers the possibility of radical changes to our life styles. I think about this because a lot of my wealth would also be in peril. One of the reasons I like to collect precious metal coins. And boy, did I collect a couple of beauties today!

Victor

Larry,

I understand your point. I collect for the same reason. My point is when times get harder nobody pays more then the spot price, whatever it maybe, for SP coins. Maybe 100s of years from now, give or take, these coins will worth a lot, we of corse will be long gone. Just hope your decedents hold on to them.

Larry T

Victor, I think most of us on this thread agree with you about the price we have to pay for these coins. I bought the 2021 4 Coin Proof AGE set and paid $5055 for 1.85 oz. of Gold. I’ve bought AGE sets years ago (with the old design of course) for under $2000, so was I thinking I’m a bit crazy buying this set, you bet I was. But I wanted the first issue of the new design, the money issue isn’t a concern for me, and I knew if I waited the set would be gone. Same for… Read more »

Hi Victor,
As long as there are some rich people left in the world, they will still be valuable. Do people turn their noses up over Roman coins? After all, they did go belly up quite a while ago.
America has played a pretty large part in creating the world every person in the world lives in today so even after America is no more, our coins will be pretty desirable. Rare ones like this set, more so.

Victor

Jeff,

I hope you are right. There’s always a chance some generation will take correct turn and the past is respected again, but we’ll be gone by then. Just hope your kids or grand kids don’t dump these coins at a dealer for quick cheap cash not realising what they have.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Victor,

The perfect movie to have playing on a conveniently adjacent screen while this highly anticipated and equally dreaded drama is as we speak unfolding would be “Dr. Strangelove, Or: How I Learned To Stopped Worrying And Love The Bomb”!

Well the order process from the US Mint for the reverse proof Silver Eagles was the worst yet. My order finally went through at 1:05 PM after many tries and fails. I got to the place order stage at least 4 when the please wait your order is currently being processed and then it would time out. I don’t think I would have kept trying if I were not so annul. I can not believe that it took an hour and five minutes to get my order through!!!

Paul Bergeron

Same here, but 1 hour and 1 minute for me. Still some for sale at 1:36 PM ET. Must not be getting a lot of orders through: maybe some gave up after an hour?

RogerF

LOL

Paul Bergeron

Looks like you were wrong. But it took me 61 minutes of constant hammering away to get an order accepted due to the worst ordering experience I ever had at the US Mint website. I got the “order acknowledgement” email, and am awaiting the “order confirmation” email. Troubles: Connection lost, gateway dropped, javascript errors we think you are a bot, etc. It might be that the website actually “crashed”: lots of “connection not accepted by source server” messages. At 1:27 ET, still not “currently unavailable”.

Rich

Boy Oh Boy, Sir Kaiser! This race, or should I say battle, is lasting a lot longer than 10 minutes. I fought and fought, and never gave up for 70 minutes until my order was successfully placed and confirmed. This time around the Mint threw everything in their arsenal at me to block and thwart my online order. I mean, I encountered every single roadblock imaginable, but alas, I finally made it through the checkout with the prize. I started the grueling process at 12 noon ET and was done at 1:10pm ET, and currently at 1:30pm ET (90 minutes… Read more »

P.S., the only thing that saved me (us) was the house hold limit of 1. In this case, one isn’t the loneliest number.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Larrt,

Why am I not surprised. Blood suckers to the left of us, parasites to the right.

Daniel

Alright. Which one of you clowns broke the Mint’s website?

Shouting out to the Colossal One, Mammoth! Just grabbed this headline from CNBC news for you:” Lab-grown woolly mammoths could walk the Earth in six years.” … what a wonderful world it will be.

Mammoth

Hey Rich, they can try copying all they want, but there is only one living Mammoth.

Were you able to snag one of those reverse proof sets?

Rich

Right On Mammoth. Yes, I was able to snag one, but it felt more like trying to shag one.

Mammoth

Rich, I also met with success after over an hour of trying, and got a confirmation email this afternoon.
We should all be feeling smug about having outlasted the flippers this time.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mammoth,

That was my exact thought about what we accomplished, maybe for the first time ever. Fracked the flippers!

I got that message multiple times, then finally got to the very end of the order, hit the final button, processed, then the page went blank. The mint page, but no info on it. My cart showed empty at that point. This was around 20-25 minutes after I placed it my cart. I have no idea if the order went through, and that is what was hidden in the blank area, or if it meant to tell me there was nothing in my cart. For the first time, I am not sure if I got an order through or not.… Read more »

Phil

That is exactly what my experience was. However, while staring at my blank screen afraid to touch anything for a couple long mins, I received acknowledgement email. So, I hope I’m good.

At this point I just tried to log off, but got nothing but errors, so I just closed the page.

Jeff Legan

I tried to determine if I had really got one after my post (called my CC company), and it doesnt look like it. I went back to the mint page, looked around, saw the item is still available, Put one into the cart without being signed in and then signed into my account again. Took many tries, but got back in finally. Showed one in my cart. Not sure if that was the one I added without being signed in, or if my original one reappeared. Multiple attempts to check out again and finally I actually was told my order… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Jeff L,

Good for you for not giving up!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Phil,

I repeatedly did not know whether or not to touch anything on the various pages that kept flipping in front of my face. It was truly bewildering for the most part.

Phil

Kaiser,

I hear that! I thought I was used to all the blockades & errors, but came across a cpl new ones for me this time.

Anyway, as the site settled down, I went thru the order process once more to satisfy my anxiety. I had reached the HOL, so hopefully my blank order confirmation screen & acknowledgement email were enough to secure a set.

I’ll be hoping for another confirmation email soon. I sure have a lot of those, lol

Kaiser Wilhelm

Phil,

We got the kitchen sink thrown at us this time, but lo and behold, we did not go down the drain. Hip hip hooray!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Jeff Legan,

If your order took you should have seen the order confirmed page with all the item, price, credit card, address and shipping details. I hope you got it, whatever the case!

Jeff Legan

Hello Kaiser Wilhelm, I enjoy seeing your comments on this site. I got my confirmation email 2 hours 40 minutes after my 69 minute ordering ordeal above…..but then I got another one 2 hours and 40 minutes after that. Each with a different order number. Both look complete and totally normal. Now I am confused. I guess the first order went through (20-25 minutes in) after all. How did the system let me order 2? Please US Mint, you have my permission to cancel one of the orders, just do not cancel both! I am not sure if I should… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Jeff L, Thank you for your kind words; much appreciated. I can’t claim to know what the Mint is thinking, but I would guess that even if they do cancel one of your two orders there isn’t anything in the rules that would move them to cancel both. Considering how the Mint sometimes loses track of what is going on with some orders, you could still find yourself the proud owner of two Sets. Furthermore, I would say that you are correct in believing that you’re likely best bet is to say nothing to the Mint regarding the extra set… Read more »

Hello Kaiser Wilhelm, I just got an email from the Mint telling me that they have canceled the 2nd order because “If you did not request a cancellation, it was cancelled because the item(s) are no longer in our inventory and are not available for backorder.” Now I am curious if they were on the ball or possibly they monitor these comments (if they do not, they should) and discovered the violation from here. I will never know unless I hear of others who managed to place two orders that day and whether their extra order was canceled or not.… Read more »

Jeff,

I kept ordering until I got a Confirmation! Never assume..you know what that gets you. This reminded me of the first Morgan (CC and O) fiasco. I’m just glad no one could hear me yelling at my computer screen about how the Mint had ‘fixed’ their ordering software Lol.

Jeff Legan

Hi Larry, The reason I stopped at that time of my first post was because my cart showed empty. I figured I either got the order or they were all sold out. Either way meant I was done. After I realized it might have been missing for a third reason (the screwed up mint website) and saw they were still showing as available on the site (when I was able to put one into the cart without signing in), I jumped back into the fray. Believe me, I know not to stop trying until they tell you your cart is… Read more »

I learned a valuable lesson today, which is to keep trying no matter how many times or how long you fail. My success moment didn’t arrive until 12:41 P.M., and even then it looked shaky until it finally settled down and confirmed.

Larry T

Kaiser, I really believe the ‘Coin Gods’ were looking out for us today, and no I’m not referring to Mike Mezack. I couldn’t even access the mints website for 20-25 minutes and then was repeatedly terminated by the computer demons( bad webpage, etc, etc.) I didn’t know if any of the sets were still available as I never accessed the product page! I was amazed after all this time to finally see they were available and that gave me my second wind to secure a set. Paul,

I got all of those, plus a myriad of others! I think I know how it feels competing in a triathlon!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Sam Abergel,

It was bullsh*t. Got kicked out of one step of the ordering process after another over and over again for almost three quarters of an hour. Finally got an order in thanks only to my wife because she kept telling me not to quit, and it turns out she was right. Which she so often is anyway. 🙂

Victor

Or this. Which for some reason annoys me.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Victor,

Today we got treated to a veritable smorgasbord of “refusal and rejection” pages. What a spirit breaker!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul,

So you know what we all had to get through. Took me 41 minutes to finally get my order in, and by then I had wanted to give up at least a dozen times.

Peter Lowell Gordon

After 30+ bad handshakes, server not responsing, LA gateway is down, and refreshing my computer over 30 times, I finally got my order for one set through. Acknowledgment from the US Mint arrived 1 minute later. All done as of 9:08 am. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

Another s*it show by the U.S. Mint. How come Jeff Bezos was able to get this right… in 1995?

Kaiser Wilhelm

Peter Gordon,

All that matters is the final result. Bingo.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Daniel,

So sorry you didn’t get it. I plowed ahead against my every instinct and my better judgment and it paid off after 41 minutes of cursing the Mint and the farking re-sellers whose bottomless greed always jams up the works. I often wish I had a magic button which I could push and all the profiteers, grifters, swindlers and robo-callers of the world would just disappear forever.

Melissa W.

Same here.. I just kept closing the tab and opening a new one. 20 minutes later, my order finally went through.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Melissa W.,

Took me a little over twice as long. Honestly, I don’t know what kept me going, but I think it was that just this once I was not about to give up and play dead.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Peter L G,

You had all that happen in 8 minutes; wow! Well, fair enough, but I had to slog through similar sh*t for close to 3/4 of an hour…welcome to the jungle.

17 minutes in and I got one! Not without hundreds of Bad Gateways and Web Server Down Messages but got one nonetheless.

Kaiser Wilhelm

TK714,

Wasn’t that about as much fun you could ever have in 17 minutes? Hmmm, maybe not.

Daniel

I think the mint should stop selling coins. They aren’t very good at it

domenic

ya think?

Paul

They suck at this!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul,

Now that is by far the most eloquent description of the Mint’s operational skills I’ve ever heard!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Daniel,

Except, that’s never stopped anybody from doing what they do. What a conundrum.

don

22 minutes and probably 50 failures later… got one. This really sucked

Joe

Had the same problem. Even reloaded the mint’s home page a couple of times, after numerous bad gateway, handshakes etc. Somehow my order remained in the bag. After 19 minutes was able to checkout. Received mint’s confirmation email. So I guess I’ll get one.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Joe,

You sound so downtrodden for someone who actually just scored a Coin Set. Just like the bartender said to the horse, “Why the long face?”

Kaiser Wilhelm

don,

Only the folks who went through all that and didn’t get a Coin Set ought to be allowed to say that. Since you managed to get one you should say it “stank to high heaven.” 😉

TiredOfIdiots

Screwed up even worse than usual but after 23 minutes of trying every trick in the book finally got one. Thank goodness for the household limit of one otherwise these would have been LONG GONE by then.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tired,

This is why I consistently advocate for a permanent HOL of 1 for all Mint products for the first 24 hours. It’s the only way that anybody other than those aggravating greedy flippers will ever have the chance to get an order in for anything.

Rooster

24 minutes of a shit show but finally went through.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Rooster,

It took me 41 minutes but I finally dug my way out of all that manure also. Hooray!

Rooster

Perseverance paid off for sure. Thankful that there was a household limit of 1. This was a crazy process.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Rooster,

That HOL of 1 was a godsend; it made all the difference in the world!

c_q

it worked!

after a mere 23 minutes, and only getting the bad gateway error and web server down screens about 1000 times, and re-entering my cc info a paltry 25 times, voila it actually went through and I already got the mint email and order number.

i don’t know why everyone is complaining… /s

(seriously, the mint web site despite all the fixes they have done, and reducing the order limit to 1, is just still too darn busy. they need to rethink what they are doing)

Kaiser Wilhelm

c_q,

Other than putting the kibosh on that Buying Clubs’ BOTS the best thing the Mint did for this highly desirable release was putting the HOL of 1 in place for the first 24 hours, which in the case of an extraordinarily popular item like this means its entire sales period. I’m all for a permanent imposition of that limit for all Mint sales that aren’t Enrollment eligible products.

Victor

As expected. Absolut sh t show. Got one after 27 minutes.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Victor,

Congrats and hope you enjoyed the Mint’s Noontime Theatre!

Victor

“Doomsday Monday”, starring 2021 (S)(W) SP Set. Oh by the way it is available as of 10:13 am September 14. The day after.

Scarecrow,

Leave it to you to go the roundabout route, but hey, whatever works, and congrats!

Nugchompa

I THINK I got one. Got the email that order was received, but I never know with the mint. Ordering, like always, was more stress than it ever should have been.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Nugchompa,

I’m really not sure if I was as stressed when I had my heart attack. Holy moly!

Daniel

Your order is currently being processed. Please do not click the ‘back button’ or refresh the page.

just went with my new way for getting coins. If I get it within 30 minutes GREAT. If not then I don’t really need it. And I saved the expense at the very least. I would say 90% of collectors can’t compete with Dealers like Pinehurst so why get upset. Keep on doing other things that help your soul instead of your pocket.

Larry T

It’s still available!

Gary Colon

Thanks, Larry T, I went on Mint Site an hour and 15 minutes later to check another order status only to see Set in my original cart placement. To my pleasant surprise and completed order with confirmation. So I broke my own method. I am not ashamed of admitting that I got a second opportunity and took advantage.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Gary Colon,

I understand you completely, and those are very wise words indeed.

Separately, I believe that the likes of Pinehurst deal a serious blow to the hobby by taking and keeping too many of what would otherwise be affordable coins out of reach of the average collector. While technically Pinehurst and its ilk are not in violation of the rules of the Mint they are absolutely contravening the spirit of why the Mint produces numismatic coinage, which is to keep the hobby of coin collecting alive in America.

Chris

I can do everything else on the shitty website but order the coin! Such a scam and they fixed nothing. All in cahoots with the big boys.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Chris,

Well yes they are indeed, and on top of that the Big Dealers, Flippers and Buying Clubs employ their thousands of minions to suck up as much of each of the Mint’s more desirable releases at the expense of the average collector. This contest does not take place on a level playing field.

Collin

Same difficulty as everyone else it sounds like…rec’d a confirm at :11 past – ran every play in the playbook, still couldn’t tell you if it was refresh, or using my phone, – or laptop. This is turning into a consistent “show”, and maybe that’s by design???Interesting article on a competing coin current events website about the ongoing ..Challenges of Demand Spike and Pandemic… on recent US Mint releases. Juicy tidbits in said article about 18 merchants with contracts with the US Mint who gov’t officials are unable to name…even after a FOIA request???Might need the body politick of U.S.… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Collin,

There’s no doubt that almost all of the obstacles we as collectors encounter on the Mint’s ordering website are put there by design to slow us down considerably while the Big Dealers, Flippers and Buying Clubs siphon off the bulk of the products available at their own speed and according to their own design. It’s a racket.

Big T

Success! I couldn’t get the proof versions of either coin but somehow, and only after 30 min of trying and several restarts and all the same issues everyone has, I was able to get this one.
Keep trying! It’s not sold out yet.
This is really not the mints fault – ordering concert tickets can be like this too. The demand outstrips the supply….

Kaiser Wilhelm

Big T,

Got one today too, which actually surprised me to no end. Took me over 40 minutes of playing web pinball but I finally put the ball in the right pocket. Hooray!

Neal

FInally got through to process my order after 45 minutes…. and it asks me to verify that I’m human…. I manually typed in all of my info, this happened with the morgan releases, but at least the site didn’t crash right after dashing my hopes.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Neal,

Took me about the same amount of time and a gazillion obstacles that had to be surmounted along the way. What a battle!

c_q

still theoretically available at 45 past the hour.

amazing how long it lasts when almost nobody can get through

Kaiser Wilhelm

c_q,

I noticed that today. The secret is to not lose hope and just keep plowing ahead.

Larry F

Holy Schnikes,
I snagged one after relentlessly clicking the links, finally getting good at this. Kinda figured the website would be this chaotic. US Mint still hasn’t straighted out thier website woes one bit :/

Kaiser Wilhelm

Larry F,

And they may never. The only way to prevail is to not give up no matter what.

Carol

After 48 minutes of bad gateway and server not responding I finally got one. This was the worst experience yet.

Daniel

I think it seems bad due to the fact it took so long to get.
For me the worst ones where they sold out almost instantly.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Daniel,

Completely agree. I would rather fight for an hour than have to despair after ten minutes.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Carol,

I agree, it was a nightmare. I no longer believe anything the Mint says. Got one, but no thanks to them.

Paul

Holy schmoly after about 150 tries in 45 minutes I scored one.

Goooooooooooool!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul,

And there, literally, you have it. Congrats!

Neal

It’s been almost an hour and I’ve reached the order confirmation page twice, site crashed. Still no order confirmation.

domenic

IVE CONFIRMED 5 TIMES AND CRASSSHHHH

Kaiser Wilhelm

domenic,

Crash is the Mint’s other name.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Neal,

Trials and tribulations; the price we pay for Mint coins.

Michael

Hi folks,I was met with all the error messages that everybody has posted. I used every ounce of patience i had and lots of prayers………..I prevailed!!!! I spent half an hour refreshing the page after numerous attempts, rejections and re-entering my cc information for my long established account i got the “Thank you for your order” message with the date and Order Number, followed shortly be the Confirmation Email. Finally cracked the nut on a limited rub set.

Best of luck to everyone.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Michael,

Congrats on prevailing; it really pays not to give up too soon.

Slypig

Persistence pays off, put one in my cart at exactly 9:00 am pst, and after countless attempts even to login, I was able to confirm and check out at 9:48am.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Slypig,

Almost identical to what happened to me!

sam tweedy

Don’t worry, Mike Mezack and ANACS has got you covered for a great “DEAL” Understand !!!!

Kaiser Wilhelm

sam,

Most of us don’t need him this time…or ever!

Michael

at 1248, I was finally able to confirm that I got 1 of these. This has to be the absolute worst that I have ever seen the US Mint’s web site. Absolutely terrible!!!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Michael,

Ditto on your observation. Took me almost that long to get one. Score!

Paul

Still available at 1:03 PM EDT

Victor

So are the hiccups and crashes. The fight to get one rages on!

Paul

The site is running smoother now, for me anyway. I just breezed through another order and got stopped by the “household order limit reached for this product” message.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul,

Someone went off the reservation. 😉

Kaiser Wilhelm

Victor,

To the “Victor” go the spoils.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul,

Amazing, isn’t it?

Lev

After 55 minutes, I got an Order Acknowledgement email. Althought I submitted the order multiple times, I never got a confirmation through the website, just errors after hitting Submit Order. Maybe I got one?

Kaiser Wilhelm

Lev,

Some people get one, some get the other. It doesn’t seem to matter.

Jay

After 1 hour and 4 minutes, and probably 100 bad gateways and three timeouts after hitting place order, my order went through. Whether or not I will get anything is left to be seen. Haha. What….An….Ordeal

Kaiser Wilhelm

Jay,

To borrow from Guns n Roses, “Welcome to the Jungle!”

Neal

Finally!!!! After over an hour of time-outs, bad gateways, proving I’m human, failed handshakes… Got an order confirmation. Starting to regret getting into collecting coins… This is by far the worst experience I’ve had in buying a coin set. I need to go lift some weights to get rid of this anxiety now.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Neal,

I got so ticked off this time I was ready to give up over sixty years of coin collecting, but happily I finally got one at minute 41.

Carl

Almost gave up but got one at 1:03, very pleased. I believe in miracles and this was one for sure.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Carl,

My miracle was that I never gave up because near the end I was very demoralized.

domenic

OK im scared…i placed order numerous times….never with a confirmed order screen….now i got a household limit reached message???? Did i order 3 sets without a confirmed screen???? I only wanted 1!!!

TiredOfIdiots

HOL is one for this set.

Domenic Vaiasicca

Whew….thats a relief..So i wonder if i actually snagged 1

domenic

oh and now because of the message im locked out from even ordering!!!…well i guess its a wait and see now!!!..AAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Domenic Vaiasicca

O M G ….1 of my “place order” went thru!!! I got a email!!!! And i never got the mints message of a conf order screen when i placed it!!! I wonder how many of us are in that boat!!! Happy i scored it…. Only took 1 hour and 15 minutes. !!! This mess has just proven the mints website needs WOOOOOOOOOORK!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Domenic,

Good work. Now you can savor your accomplishment.

Kaiser Wilhelm

domenic,

Take a deep breath before you pop a gasket; we’d hate to lose you.

Kaiser Wilhelm

domenic,

Worst that can happen is you send what you don’t want back to the Mint.

Bill

At 10:07 order went through. Wow. Almost gave up

Kaiser Wilhelm

Bill,

Good job and congrats!

Mammoth

One hour and seven minutes later, my order FINALLY went through.
Thank goodness this is the LAST coin I need to order from the Mint this year!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mammoth,

We both scored one. How cool is that!

Rich

This cool!

Wooly Mammoth.jpg
Kaiser Wilhelm

Rich,

Now THAT is cool, and by the likes of it, also cold!

Tony

One hour five minutes of trying. Finally got one! Don’t give up!

Paul Horwitz

Just got one at 1 hour 10 min! Keep trying! Must have tried well over 100 times

Kaiser Wilhelm

Paul H,

Another cheerleader; we need everyone to have this attitude!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tony,

That’s the message to spread!

Tim Thomas

Don’t give up people, I finally snagged one at 1:09 PM. I was bumped out probably 50 times or more.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Tim T,

You tell ’em! Congrats!

Gary J

Keep trying folks.Got mine after 70 minutes

Kaiser Wilhelm

Gary J,

The best message. And congrats!

Rob S

That took OVER an HOUR!!! 😮 I *think* I got 1, got an order # and an ack email. I was surprised there was any left it took so long, I didnt hold out much hope, but kept trying. Also, given my previous B/O experience, I have no true idea tho?? But what an exercise in FUTILITY *AND* PERSISTENCE!!! Hmmm – also looks like some are still available??? How is THAT? The site has been so DOWN they couldnt START processing orders until 45 – 60 mins after it went on sale? Looks like most of us had the same… Read more »

Kaiser Wilhelm

Rob S,

The mysteries of the Mint. Regardless, one must never give up!

Rob S

(Yeah – repeating myself) …
Well … CRUD!!
Got 2 emails at the same time ~ 6pm EST –
1 said confirmed, #2 said call us. So I did.
The order in my acct does not show my CC info. There were a TON of problems getting my CC info FROM my account to load properly.
The agent said the order cannot be placed because of something with the payment method.
So…
CANCELLED.
Waah waaaaaaahhhhhhhh. 🙁
Cant win ’em all. Cant have everything.

This whole process made me feel like … 7 years of college, down the drain!!! 😀

Rooster

It seems like they should have corrected any problems and leave your order intact. Any other business would. At least look at your past order history and confirm any discrepancies with you. So wrong.

Rob S

When I called they said they cannot modify any order in any way??? GREAT! /sarcasm Great system (as we know by now)

Sorry, I’ve got the I didnt get 1 blues. Feels like I got zonked, gonged, punched in the junk, TPIR tromboned, my dog died, girl that said she was going to the prom with me told me she changed her mind and is going with another guy, AND my truck broke down!

Monday the 13th!! lolz 😉

Rob S

I’m gonna have to see if a reputable (?) dealer gets one, like APMEX (you pay, but they deliver). Yeah, I’m gonna pay a LOT more 🙁 , thats IF they get any, but thats how the baby bounces.

FViia

Got one ! Acknowledgment at 12:06PM. I guess I am happy, but that was a MESS.

FRANK

Had in bag immediately…but when trying to pay/confirm kicked out continuously…finally went thru after almost an hour of attempts. Order acknowledgment arrived…now hope for confirmation within24 hour! Yippie!

bud

1:12 got order confirmation after many, many, service down messages.

David

It took me 1hour and ten minutes of trying, but I finally was able to get my order in. Usually by that time the item would be sold out, but I guess everyone was having the same problems I was.

Kirk R Lapham

Like Tim, I tried 50+ times to get in and complete sale. One hour and nine minutes of trying paid off. Got one!

Mike Hunt

Kirk —
At my age I was concerned I might not get one. Then, with all the order re-submissions, I was concerned that I was not. I got mine at one hour 10 minutes … after completing the checkout process at least a half dozen times!
But the best thing was I found out I got it by having an eMail confirmation from the Mint appear on my eMail.
Other than finally getting one, this was THE WORST ordering process of all the orders I have ever placed with the Mint.
— Mike

Mike Hunt

With apologies to Kaiser Wilhelm (for responding to my own note), my daughter just called to tell me she just got one too … she said it was one hour 25 minutes of total frustration ….

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mike,

Amazing as it seems considering what it took to get there, we seem to have a lot of happy success stories here today. Good day, sunshine! (thank you, Beatles).

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mike,

I almost did the same thing just now. that is, respond to myself. Apparently all this excitement has brought on a spell of “dizziness”.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mike,

Wasn’t this an experience and a half? I was absolutely sure by minute 40 that I was a goner. One minute later I struck silver. Hooray!

Kaiser Wilhelm

Mike,

It’s only occurred to me a full 48 hours after the fact, but considering we – and apparently more than the usual number of our brethren here – actually managed to get coins this time, maybe we shouldn’t be so quick to classify this as the worst ordering experience ever. Wouldn’t those many other instances where we abjectly failed to acquire any coins whatsoever all be in a worse category? Just sayin’.

Bubba

I think people gave up. I ordered one over an hour after they went on sale. Just shows not to give up until after the bell sounds. Frustrating, but after suffering 5 stages of grief, I can sing again.

Steve J.

What a mess! I gave up after 30 minutes! Constant timeouts, bad gateway, etc, etc. Still showing available after 1 hour 24 minutes. So, I went back and tried again. I got it!!! Hallelujah!!!

Bubba

A mess is when they sell out when you have one in your cart.

Kaiser Wilhelm

Bubba,

This time that is the best advice going. Today one really had to be in it for the long haul in order to finally hit paydirt!

62 minutes and finally completed the purchase. What a test of my patience. Almost gave up several times as I did not think any would be left after 20 minutes but kept filling my coffee cup and clicking away.
