On Wednesday, prices for gold and platinum rose while those for silver and palladium declined. Gold’s gain was its ninth in ten sessions, and it ended at another near 20-week high.
Gold for June delivery added $3.20, or 0.2%, to settle at $1,901.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. The settlement was again the highest since Jan. 7 when gold ended at $1,913.60 an ounce. The yellow metal is now also higher on the year-to-date, up 0.3%.
"With investors still sounding the alarm over inflation, institutional interest in the precious metals complex is likely to continue rising following months of outflows, providing an offsetting force against taper fears for the time being," TD Securities said in a note reported by Reuters.
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,890.70 to a high of $1,913.30. They rose 0.7% on Tuesday and they moved ahead 0.4% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery declined 17.9 cents, or 0.6%, to settle at $27.877 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $27.68 and $28.34. They finished up 0.5% on Tuesday and they tacked on 1.5% on Monday.

July platinum rose $3.30, or 0.3%, to $1,200.20 an ounce, ranging from $1,191.60 to $1,217.60.
- Palladium for June delivery fell $29, or 1%, to $2,748.20 an ounce, trading between $2,730 and $2,804.
