Precious metals gained Thursday, led by silver and followed by gold. Increases in platinum and palladium were modest.
Gold for June delivery tacked on $16.60, or 1%, to settle at $1,758.20 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange.
"The dollar and U.S. yields are coming off and that’s the key catalyst right now… a pretty unimpressive jobs number is also helping push gold higher," Reuters quoted Bob Haberkorn, senior market strategist, RJO Futures. "And the fact that we’re above $1,750, which is a key technical level, shows that gold has some legs to continue higher."
Gold futures ranged from a low of $1,733.60 to a high of $1,759.40. They dipped 0.08% on Wednesday, they rose 0.8% on Tuesday, and they inched up 0.02% on Monday.
Silver for May delivery increased 33.8 cents, or 1.3%, to close at $25.585 an ounce. Silver futures traded between $25.02 and $25.68. They climbed 0.08% on Wednesday, they advanced 1.8% on Tuesday, and they declined 0.7% on Monday.

July platinum added $3.50, or 0.3%, to $1,235.40 an ounce, ranging from $1,222.10 to $1,243.70.
- Palladium for June delivery added $7.20, or 0.3%, to $2,628.30 an ounce, trading between $2,606.50 and $2,650.
