2020 Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Quarter Three-Coin Set
Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve Quarter Three-Coin Set (front and back). This product is the last of five for 2020 and the fifty-fifth of fifty-six overall in the U.S. Mint’s series of America the Beautiful Quarters Three-Coin Sets™.

Included in the product are collector versions of quarters recognizing Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in Kansas. Two of the quarters are in an uncirculated finish and the other is in a proof finish. Specifically, the set includes:

  • one 2020-S proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint,
  • one 2020-P uncirculated quarter from the Philadelphia Mint and,
  • one 2020-D uncirculated quarter from the Denver Mint.

The coins’ shared design marks the 55th of the 56 created as a part of the U.S. Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The program debuted in 2010 and has seen five unique quarters issued annually with each honoring a different site of national interest. The program will conclude next year with a coin emblematic of the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site in Alabama.

The three Tallgrass Prairie quarters are attached to a durable plastic presentation card which shows an image of the preserve on one side and information about the site and the included coins on the other.

2020 National Park of American Samoa Quarter Three-Coin Set
Quarters in three-coin sets are presented on attractive plastic cards, like the one shown in the above CoinNews photo of this year’s first set for the National Park of American Samoa Quarter. They are issued as part of the U.S. Mint’s much larger America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. The program debuted in 2010 and has seen five new releases annually each honoring a different site of national interest. One site was chosen from each state, the District of Columbia and the five U.S. territories.

Created by Emily Damstra and sculpted by Renata Gordon, Tallgrass Prairie quarter reverses (tails side) depict a Regal Fritillary butterfly in flight against Big Bluestem and Indian grasses iconic to the preserve. Surrounding inscriptions read: "TALLGRASS PRAIRIE," "KANSAS," "2020," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

The set released Nov. 5 includes two of these uncirculated quarters — one from the Philadelphia Mint and one from the Denver Mint — as well as a proof quarter from the San Francisco Mint.

This CoinNews photo shows a proof Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve quarter from the San Francisco Mint, one of which is included in an earlier released U.S. Mint product that features all five 2020-dated quarters in a proof set. The set released Nov. 5 also includes one of these proof quarters as well as two uncirculated quarters.

Coins of the entire series bear the same obverse (heads side) portrait of George Washington. The effigy was originally designed by John Flanagan for the 1932 circulating quarter dollar. Inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR."

A mintmark of ‘S,’ ‘P’ or ‘D’ also appears on the obverse indicating the production facility of the San Francisco Mint, the Philadelphia Mint or the Denver Mint, respectively.
